Hands-Off Preview: Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker – A Hidden Gem | DualShockers

Super Mario 3D World featured puzzle levels which starred Captain Toad and these stages served as fun little diversions from the madness of the rest of the game. Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker takes the basic concept of these extra levels and expands them into a full game. This is a title which takes patience, forces you to think and which also adds a neat co-op experience.

This should be a digital only game. IMO

GordonKnight4323d ago

Because it's just a small spin off from 3D world. Small games like this I normally purchase digitally for convenience. If I only have short period of time to play a game, I won't waste any of it changing a disc.

3D needed more of these stages in the game. I guess it's better than it just being a DLC add-on.

All in all I can't wait for this game.

@GordonKnight,
You said it should be digital ONLY. Your answer to Romudeth doesn't explain why it should be digital ONLY. Emphasis on 'ONLY'. Why not both physical and digital?

deafdani4323d ago

Except you don't know how big or small the game is. So, you are in no position whatsoever to judge whether this game should be just a small digital release or not.

WeAreLegion4323d ago

I think what he means is he doesn't want to pay $60 for this style of game, no matter how long it is.

MartinB1054322d ago

Yeah. I mean, who wants choice anyway!? :p

GordonKnight4322d ago

If having choices means a higher price I'm not for it.

This game is going to retail for $39.99, but if it was digital only to could be $14.99 or $19.99.

Plus, most people will trade this game in or buy it used, which will hurt Nintendo's bottom line. I'm a Nintendo shareholder so that matters to me.

This is literally my second-most anticipated video game. First place goes to Splatoon!

Reeze4322d ago

It's somewhere up there, maybe just below Zelda! :)

Nintendo finally explains what free upgrades do for Switch games on Switch 2

All 12 games are getting different upgrades. Some get full visual and frame rate enhancements, while others get GameShare support only.

darthv72369d ago

hmm... those improvements for the zelda games is kinda weak. I was expecting improved frame rate, or at the very least more stable. Sad there is nothing for Paper Mario, that one could use a 60fps mode like the original GC version.

ocelot07369d ago

Both Zelda games both run at 1440p and 60fps now. On the switch they both play at 30fps.

--Onilink--369d ago

The main issue will be if they don’t remove the double buffer vsync in them.

Yes, they are technically already 60fps capped, but that vsync setup means even a single dropped frame below 60 sends it to 30fps.

Now if they are also increasing the resolution and visuals in the game, unless there is a pretty significant overhead, which is still likely but not fully understood due to the unknowns of the “emulation” setup, if the 1% lows in the game still drop it every now and then anywhere below 60, they will still end up having massive stuttering drops from 60 to 30fps.

He's talking about link's awakening and echos of wisdom not breath or tears

Tacoboto369d ago

The two Zeldas - EoW and LA - already run with a 60fps cap. I would hope they're not mentioning improved frame rate because it's just assumed that the Switch 2 will smooth out the drops.

Whereas the specific callouts for Bowser's Fury and Pokémon indicate a raise from 30fps to 60fps.

jznrpg369d ago

Disappointing. Not many games with not much in upgrades.

Tacoboto369d ago

So... They're not gonna do anything with that Xenoblade Chronicles X 60fps mode, huh?

CDbiggen369d ago (Edited 369d ago )

12 is a bit weak. The whole switch library is in need of a boost. Exclusives like the Xenoblades and Astral Chain would be great to see get a free update. Initially surprised Mario Wonder wasn't on the list, but I imagine they have a paid upgrade planned for that one.

I was waiting for dq11 sale. Might be time to buy.

deleted2175d ago (Edited 2175d ago )

Took them forever to put it on sale on the US store! It was on sale for the EU store back on the New Years sale, and at least 1 other time. I had waited so long, I just knew the minute I dropped $60 on it, it would end up going on sale. Took longer than I thought though. I nabbed DQXI S and also DQ Builders 2 last night. Both great games!

I had 7 1/2 hours in the DQXI S demo, so I already knew I loved it. Glad my progress carried over.
