#6 - Optional voice chat with people outside your fire squad

joab7774312d ago

Sorry, thats #1. A chat box like other mmos or proximity and crucible chat r paramount. And more character customization would be nice but not needed at launch.

What many may not be used to is the dynamic nature of an mmo or semi mmo. It will evolve a ton over the years. Customization will be high on the list as will other planets to explore. Look at all the content in russia alone.

As far a a deep narrative, it is tied to backstory b/c Bungie will not be able to craft as tight and linear a story as Halo. You are among guardians...this is an mmo. FF14 has a great sp but it quickly becomes apparent that it is a multi game, so a penned story takes a backseat to freedom and the crafting of your own story. Not every game is TLoU...and I am glad!

They have already added a ton of backstory with grimoires etc. And many mmo players can attest to the fact that u dont need a script to create a living breathing world that is more immersive than most.

We will remember Destiny for what we do in its world not b/c of what Bungie writes about it.

I am indeed a little worried about the depth of the story and lore, as the beta featured little beyond some voice acting and a slightly vague cutscene. Oh, and they need to add facial hair for males. Otherwise I'll have to go Exo.

A beta is for them to work out bugs, etc., not for you to complete half the story before the game even comes out.

That's the pitfall with opening up the beta to such a huge crowd. You generate a lot of momentum and get people excited for it. At the same time we've got comments like this where people don't understand that the beta isn't there for you to learn about the lore/story or get in depth.

DivineCrusader4312d ago

I am fully aware of the purpose of a beta, and I never stated otherwise. However, seeing as the beta included the first few hours of the game in their entirety, I have in fact seen enough to be slightly worried. After all, the first few hours are really important to keep players interested in the world the developers have created.

GW212

a lot of people are worried about the story in destiny, many feel like it won't be as good as promised based off the beta missions

the story has never been bungie's strong points so we have every right to be a little worried

joab7774312d ago

Story and lore are two different things. The lore will be there in spades. The story will not be a deep single player experience...and it shouldnt be. This game is about us, about the guardians and the gamer and what we will accomplish with our friends.

If u want to dive head first into lore, u can, and many will. But this game was made to be played for more than 8 hrs.

DivineCrusader4312d ago (Edited 4312d ago )

I hope you are right, and there is no doubt that I will immerse myself in the lore if the opportunity is there.

As for stories, they can stay interesting for far longer than eight hours. I think Skyrim is a good example of that.

On #3 - why can't he just look at the name above the character?

I'm all for more customization but me mistaking one person for another just isn't going to happen. Rarely do I look at what someone is wearing in the middle of a battle. I look at the name above the character if anything.

Also, he mentions sequels to the game. Is it possible that there are no "sequels" but rather they just continuously augment and upgrade the game going forward? They'll have to figure out some revenue structure like a yearly subscription but that might be a really cool way to do it. I'd also be open to the character carrying over to the next game a la Mass Effect. If I am going to invest a ton of time into this, I don't want to have to start over.

joab7774312d ago

Customization is for us and pur friends or guild. Thats it. Customization may not change a lot before launch but they will add alot. And we dont know just yet how awesome end game gear will be.

With their 10 year plan, hopefully Bungie will allow travel to the entire solar system and beyond, then go to the enemies home planet and finish the fight.

BlackWolf124312d ago

This article actually makes me think that the author hasn't played the Beta hahaha.

#4 Characters with faces.
So he obviously NEVER visited the tower....

Its neat especially since not everyone might have two friends playing it. Makes it more personal to go at in duos.

It's 2026 and basic match making features in MP games are still being drip fed to an audience that still gets excited over said basic feature being implemented.

Almost 16,000 reviews on Steam currently has the game sitting on a very positive 90% Not sure if it has the player numbers but those who are playing seem to be enjoying themselves.

Putte65d ago

And as of now a 5.1 user score on metacritic. Really bad.

LiViNgLeGaCY65d ago

On Steam, you have to have bought the game, in order to play. On metacritic, ANYONE can review it. I'll leave it for you to decide which one matters more.

Trolls on Metacritic, must be a new thing or you were born yesterday

The game is really really bad. So generic boring and lifeless. UI is terrible. Bad and slow gameplay. Not sure who gives the go ahead for these games. Insane all that money companies just throw away for no reason. Nobody a asking for these games

LiViNgLeGaCY65d ago

You haven't played it. That much is apparent from your comment. Gameplay is FAR from slow and boring. I do agree the UI definitely needs to be re-worked. But then again, you're just repeating a complaint you're reading about, not actually experiencing.

MrNinosan65d ago

Can you show any proof you've actually played it, by sharing your PSN ID or Steam profile? Nah, guessed as much.

Outside_ofthe_Box65d ago

Gunplay is the best thing about the game. To call it bad is wrong. Just because it isn't a twitch shooter doesn't mean it's slow, not everything has to play the same. Everything else is generic I agree.

Flenter65d ago

Yes I am. But tell me ,with goty games do you play? Have you even played Marathon? If not ...S T F U!!
So sick and tired of the hate BS 🤮🤮
