Bungie explains why 'Destiny' only allows for chat between Fireteam members

David Dague, who is a community manager at Bungie, talked about why Destiny players can only talk to people in their fire team when competing at The Crucible.

Bungie need to accept that the community want proximity chat in the open world, and team chat in the crucible.

The 6 man team should automaically be a fire team in the crucible, therefore they should automatically be able to communicate with each other. Without communication, no 'team' game ever works properly.

Just do it Bungie, apparently that's why you wanted us to play your Beta, so we could give you our feedback. No?

Afterall we know how to use a 'mute' button should we need it...

there's nothing more to add what you have said other than the GIF below http://wordonroad.net/wp-co...

My thoughts exactly. Nice comment

ramiuk14324d ago

promximity cat would be awesome for when out exploring, and defo team chat on crucible.

i wondered why i couldnt hear anyone speaking

Hk85karlsson4324d ago

U couldn´t hear because you´re still using that proximity cat. You be all -meow and shit.

Kenshin_BATT0USAI4323d ago

I freaking hate proximity cat. So damn annoying. Keeps meowing at me, even after I leave.

bunt-custardly4323d ago

Sounds like some awesome special move from a sci fi themed JRPG.

Proximity Cat!

ArchangelMike4323d ago

Why does proximity cat remind me of Gravity Rush http://www.kotowari.org/wp-...

Predaking774323d ago

I guess a proximity cat companion would be good to explore the earth on Destiny. I guess the proximity cat will alert you when there are enemies near by.

Lol

This is a must...either proximity and crucible chat or a chat box.

They want the community to grow and feel connected right?

dasbeer884323d ago

I scent Activision executives behind Bungie's explanation...

ArchangelMike4323d ago

But why would they not want it tho?

ion6664323d ago

Amen brother. proximity chat was fun in rainbow six vegas. In socom confrontation it actually sounds like a dude yelling a block away and they had a mic button just in case you wanted to go dark. ;)

isa_scout4323d ago

Nice comment. Honestly after putting well over 30 hours between the Alpha and the beta it feels oddly anti social for a game that is supposed to be connected and social. I understand that they don't want players to have to deal with racial slurs and bullying, but that it why there is a mute button. No voice chat for teams in the crucible and no proximity chat while exploring means creating friends while playing Destiny is damn near impossible. I'm not going to accept a friend request just because someone dances with me Bungie....

ArchangelMike4323d ago

Exaxtly, and even so the process of inviting someone to a fireteam involves going out into orbit first. Seems like a massive oversight on Bungie's part.

ShinMaster4323d ago

I think it should be optional. Sometimes I'm chatting with friends in party chat. I don't want to suddenly be having to hear other people, just because they're on my team.

BlackWolf124323d ago

Your not understanding their reasoning obviously.

I personally don't want auto-proximity, i think it should be an option, but nothing more.

The LAST thing I want in Destiny is to walk into the Tower and be greeted by 10 screaming 10 year old kids.

Or to be enjoying a nice exploration adventure in Free Roam and be heckled by some loser.

GameSpawn4323d ago

Exactly. The screaming piss heads already exist. I had more than one instance where I had to mute people while playing AC4 online on my PS4. Half of them were because some whiny kid was cussing up another older, but equally immature player and the other half were people with open mics that were just outputting endless background noise.

By limiting chat to Fireteams, you can still have organized co-op and team play without the issues above.

Localized voice chat could be OK if the distance was relatively small and you had the option to turn it off completely (maybe have a crossed speaker icon next to your username so others know you muted local chat so they aren't talking to a brick wall).

Never felt so lonely in a room full of people b4.

Ace Killa 084324d ago

BF4 on the PS4 does gives that feeling. 31 players on my team and when I squad jump there's hardly anyone with a mic

Utalkin2me4324d ago

Might wanna find some friends, just saying.

impet254324d ago

Its not that hardly anyone has a Mic, its that everyone is in a party.

Clown_Syndr0me4324d ago

Party's killed Xbox Live and now they are killing PSN.
#Forcegamechat !

Shadonic4324d ago

64 people and no mics, i was the only one and the group invited me. In Destiny's case I wouldn't get an invite because they wouldn't hear me in the first place I'd be just another dancing warlock too them.

ion6664323d ago

I usually use the ps chat room and squad up with 4 of my closest buds.

When you are in the tower, it screams chat. Isn't this the place where whe are suppose to chill after those hard battles?

4324d ago
ramiuk14324d ago

proximity chat in tower might get a bit hectic, would defo need option to turn it off

Clown_Syndr0me4324d ago

Its only 16 player max there I think and 15 of those 16 would be in party chat anyway.

ArchangelMike4324d ago

Proximity chat in the Tower is a no brainer really. All Bungie need to do is have a toggle button for proximity chat. Problem solved.

skydragoonity4324d ago

Not being able to chat sucks big time

The Meerkat4324d ago

They should have separate playlists for people with mics and those without.

So if you join one with mics and hear naughty words then you only have yourself to blame.

Drekken4323d ago

Everyone that owns a PS4 has a mic.

Its neat especially since not everyone might have two friends playing it. Makes it more personal to go at in duos.

Inverno43d ago

It's 2026 and basic match making features in MP games are still being drip fed to an audience that still gets excited over said basic feature being implemented.

Almost 16,000 reviews on Steam currently has the game sitting on a very positive 90% Not sure if it has the player numbers but those who are playing seem to be enjoying themselves.

Putte76d ago

And as of now a 5.1 user score on metacritic. Really bad.

LiViNgLeGaCY76d ago

On Steam, you have to have bought the game, in order to play. On metacritic, ANYONE can review it. I'll leave it for you to decide which one matters more.

MrNinosan76d ago

Trolls on Metacritic, must be a new thing or you were born yesterday

The game is really really bad. So generic boring and lifeless. UI is terrible. Bad and slow gameplay. Not sure who gives the go ahead for these games. Insane all that money companies just throw away for no reason. Nobody a asking for these games

LiViNgLeGaCY76d ago

You haven't played it. That much is apparent from your comment. Gameplay is FAR from slow and boring. I do agree the UI definitely needs to be re-worked. But then again, you're just repeating a complaint you're reading about, not actually experiencing.

MrNinosan76d ago

Can you show any proof you've actually played it, by sharing your PSN ID or Steam profile? Nah, guessed as much.

Outside_ofthe_Box76d ago

Gunplay is the best thing about the game. To call it bad is wrong. Just because it isn't a twitch shooter doesn't mean it's slow, not everything has to play the same. Everything else is generic I agree.

Flenter76d ago

Yes I am. But tell me ,with goty games do you play? Have you even played Marathon? If not ...S T F U!!
So sick and tired of the hate BS 🤮🤮
