Steve Marchese of CanadianGamer writes : Over the past 2 weeks I have been taking part in the Steam Early Access release of a game called Space Engineers for the purpose of reviewing. I should mention that Early Access is a system I very much feel is broken at this stage and I generally don’t trust games that go through development this way but I will leave that for another topic at another time. Space Engineers is a voxel sandbox type game in which you are an astronaut in the deep reaches of space and you are to mine asteroids for minerals in order to build tools, ships, and space stations. The game is being developed by an indie studio called Keen Software House which is based out of the Czech Republic. The game was released as an alpha in October of 2013 and is available as I’ve mentioned on Steam Early Access for $19.99 USD or you can buy the 4 pack for you and 3 friends for $59.99 USD.

I've been tempted to delve into this game, but much like the reviewer here, I think the lack of narrative and direction would hamper my enjoyment. And 40 minutes of tutorial videos doesn't sound like much fun either.
