Rare's Problem Is Not Microsoft

Hardcore Gamer: Rare’s problem isn’t what you think - it’s not that they left Nintendo, and it’s not that they joined Microsoft. Rare’s main flaw is entirely of their own creation.

It's not having a new Banjo Kazooie.

badz1494232d ago

the problem is not Microsoft? it's like saying DICE's problem is not EA. IT FREAKING IS!

Necro_5594232d ago

Its not MS's problem at all. Not only that but Rare would be completely dead if it wasnt for MS. Nintendo has no intentions to buy them and they were going under. MS came in and saved the day. Its a fact.

Eonjay4232d ago

@Necro

How can that be when RARE is completely owned, funded and staffed by Microsoft.

Example:
Sony Santa Monica apparently had been working on a project for years that wasn't making progress. They ended that projects funding, fired the staff and reorganized the studio. So that studios mistakes become Sony's problem by extension.

badz1494232d ago (Edited 4232d ago )

@Necro

so? your point is? when something you own have problem, you're part of the problem too.

-Foxtrot4232d ago

Yeah but Microsoft didn't help.

If they saw the studio was falling on hard times and loosing talent then it's up to the company that bought them to replace that talent and make the studio what it was in the good old days.

Not to mention Microsoft should of never agreed on Nuts and Bolts.

GamingSinceThe80s4232d ago

It may not have been a True Banjo game but I for one rather liked Nuts and bolts.A 9 out of 10 in my book.

LAWSON724232d ago

I agree it was very fun especially online. IMO if Banjo Threeie happened it should of course be a platformer but also have a dedicated online mode like N&B

Ps4marksthespotnotX4232d ago

It's RARE they make a good game these days

FlyingFoxy4232d ago

Perfect Dark 64 came out in 2000...

LAWSON724232d ago

Perfect Dark 2000
Banjo Tooie 2000
Conker BFD 2001

Also these good games they also made in the 2000s

Kameo
Viva Pinata
Viva Pinata Trouble in Paradise
Banjo N&B (you may not like it but critically it was well received and I personally thought it was a very well made game)

This list is not as great as the 90s and sadly they apparently only make Kinect Sports games these days and I don't think they will ever make a good game again. But they certainly had some good games in the 2000s.

Gezmoyassine4232d ago

I see what you did there.Brilliant XD

DallasTrout4232d ago

Most of the people who made Conker, Banjo Kazooie and Goldeneye don't work at RARE anymore.

BVFTW4232d ago (Edited 4232d ago )

Gregg Mayles, lead designer of Banjo-kazooie, Battletoads and DKC2 works there, lead designer of Killer Instinct and former voice of Jago Kenn Lobb works in Microsoft Studios as creative director and oversees the new "KI" development, Leigh Loveday wrote the script of the dkc games and blast corps is still there. Rare still has lots of its former talent.

Muadiib4232d ago

I really hope that Ken Lobb oversees more games using Rare IP's, he has done an excellent job with Killer Instinct, imo the only game worth getting a next-gen console for till Destiny comes out (really hope both come to the pc).

‘Thanks to everyone who played’: Banjo-Kazooie director confirms Rare exit after 36 years

Gregg Mayles writes: "Today was my last day at Rare Ltd. Thanks to everyone who played and enjoyed any of the games I helped create while I was there. Also thanks to all the people that worked on the games alongside me. It seemed fitting that I should say farewell with one final rhyme!"

These sorts of goodbyes are always the most heart-wrenching.

Not to offend anyone. But what was Rare doing with Everwild for so many years? Development began in 2014, with a reveal in 2019. From 2019 onwards nothing was about the game.

Notellin168d ago

"Notably, O’Connor’s boss of 13 years, former Rare studio head Craig Duncan, was appointed head of Xbox Game Studios last year."

Hiring internal talent from Rare worked out so well last time.

It's a shame it seems pretty Sea of Thieves centric

I was hoping for some cool Banjo / Conker merch or maybe a re-release of Rare Relay with some added games, possibly work something out with Nintendo so they can add Goldeneye to it with online support.
