Sony has unveiled it's latest high-end LCD offerings that add a few nice additions, including increased 120Hz Motionflow which should benefit gamers significantly. The TV's colour reproduction has also been significantly improved.

My bet is you have either XBR2, XBR3, 4 or 5. These just came out and aren't really available yet. Plus these new ones are definitely a generation above the 4s and 5s and 2 gens above 2 or 3.

These models aren't even about the 120 hz refresh anymore. Its about the the triluminos LEDs with partial shut off for deeper blacks.

I wonder how the RGB LED compares to OLED. Might be interesting to compare.

That's definantly a slick HDTV. Sony's OLED TV's will definantly be the next big thing once the prices drop down a LOT. The good thing about Sony's products is that whenever you buy anything from Sony, you are basically getting a top of the line product and you know that you are getting the best of the best, just like the PS3.

I've seen one of those 120Hz tv's in CircuitCity and Best Buy, but it was a Samsung tv. Blu-Ray looks sharp and all, but I didn't get used to the framerate. The characters looked like moving snippets from a comic book, and CGI looked even more like CGI. I thought the motion picture looked fake, but thats my opinion.

But for gaming, thats a whole different story. I would really like to try one of the more marvelous looking HD games on one of those TV's.

You're right 120 mhz on some of the Samsung models looks very artificial, because it is. I don't know how the new XBR8 and 7s from Sony will perform though but its a feature that isn't all it's cracked up to be.

The tri-LED backlight should be awesome for colors and image though.

120Hz is totally unrelated to fps. The 120Hz simply doubles the number of screen refreshes per second (from 60 - 120 in the US, or from 50 - 100 PAL regions.)

If you have a game running at 60fps playing on a 120Hz set, then each frame of the game will be reproduced twice. The 'Motionflow' part of it is the frame interpolation, where it effectively 'guesses' what the added frames will be. In most cases though, I've found it does work effectively on high class sets, though badly on budget ones. Sony's X series last year was generally one of the best sets on how it used 100 / 120Hz, so this years model should be even better.

That is the main complaint about the whole 120hhz thing. It makes the movie almost like a home movie. Just looks wierd or different. It's the answer to LCD's problem with motion. That's why I stick with Plasma.

i got 60hz cuz i read 120 doesn't work with some games. or it looks like sh!t at least.

I own the 40'' Samsung 120hz "Red Touch of Color" LCD, and while its an excellent LCD, the thing is a pain in the ass to calibrate and get the most out of it. Took me 2 weeks to finally get accurate contrast and lighting. Samsung's presets are awful, Dark movies become impossible to see etc.

120hz is only worthwhile for high resolution movies and racing games like Gran Turismo 5. The added frame rates make everything more crisp because you see more HD frames per second.

However, I DO NOT recommend 120hz upscaling features for hardcore gamers. Motion flow, or in my LCD's case, "Auto Motion Plus", what these do is use the internal CPU to upscale lower HZ rates to 120HZ, figuring out which frames goes in between the next frame. If you've guessed already this can add split second input lag. Making crosshair movement seem awkward. When playing games, I make sure the LCD is in PC Mode, because this mode skips the video processor, making game movement more precise. If your PC can handle it of course, running any game in full 120HZ at full 1080p, with effects on high... is a sight to behold.

PS: I know I'm going to be called out for saying my Samsung's features work basically the same as this Sony model, but they both pretty much do work the same.
