Nintendo Amiibo: How Will They Work?

We discuss how Nintendo will use amiibo, their toys-to-life acessories for the Wii U and 3DS. From Smash Bros. Wii U to Mario Party 10, we talk about how they could fully utilize the potential that is amiibo.

I still don't understand the purpose of these things in Super Smash Bros., even after reading those paragraphs lol

So we'll be able to customize that character and use it when we want? If so, can I use it online or just locally? Isn't this doing cheat? If the guy is an NPC and can attack me why would I want it? Yeah, too many doubts and not many answers by Nintendo.

Also, if I have a Link amiibo, for example, how am I going to use it in Mario Kart 8?

NuGamer4334d ago

We agree, Metallox, there haven't been a lot of details surrounding the actual use of the figures. If you look at Nintendo's amiibo site here they have a video giving tiny bits of information regarding how they're used in Smash Bros.: http://www.nintendo.com/ami...

They could have been more clear, and the lack of details made the article difficult to tackle, but fun to imagine the possibilites.

Nintendo has only revealed the games they will be compatible with. Wait until they reveal more specifics of each game. I'm very excited to see how they work in MK8 myself. :)

GeofferyPeterson4334d ago

Can't wait to use them in MK10, I've always wanted to rip Waluigi's head off!

maniacmayhem4334d ago

Yea, will these things be assist(s) for smash or will they actually be leveled up characters you can use in game. Which seems a bit much if you are playing smash competitively and are going against smash characters that are higher level than you.

It will be interesting to see how Nintendo incorporates this into their games.

AI can be lvl 1-9.

Once you can beat lvl 9 CPU's, there is no way to better your skills.

THIS WAY WITH AMiiBO, you can train that AI/CPU to lvl 50.

This way, you ALWAYS have something to practice against IF you can't play online for some reason, or you'd rather practice offline, and then go online after.

* ALSO - you can have them fight with you as well, like your teamate.

You basically train a sparring partnet/ team member for you to fight with/against online or offline, and they are MUCH BETTER than normal AI.

That is what I got out of it.

* You can take them to your friends house and import them their as well. Eventually we can bring them to 3DS/WiiU as too.

This way, you can train on your 3DS while away, and then upload to the Wii U if your at home, and it's THE SAME AMiiBO.

Nintendo have done a terrible job explaining how these Amiibo (yet another terrible name) will work. While it sounds great that they will 'work' with multiple games they have not provided ANY insight into HOW they will work. Say what you will about Skylanders, the premise is easily understood.

Nintendo's approach is simply confusing. The market would welcome a Nintendo TTL title. The way these interact with ssmb sounds pointless.

Once again nintendo strives to be different simply to be different. They don't need to. Create a 3d world for these characters to come to life within and watch the money come in.

As it stands these have a very very niche market and will NOT gain widespread appeal.

these are the last things i want. My idea of a new gen is minimize clutter through digtal content and games. Not a bunch of toys laying around just saying

Geekman4334d ago

They're CPUs that you train to fight against or put against other players or CPUs in Smash Bros and other games. Why is this hard to understand?

LOL_WUT4334d ago

$20 for toy thats practically an in game CPU/Memory card which will only work with specific games I think its ridiculous. ;)

U.S. patent examiner rejects Nintendo’s summoning characters patent as obvious: non-final ruling

The rejection is non-final (and even when such rejections are labeled as “final”, the process is far from over, given that there can be, at minimum, an appeal to the Federal Circuit).

Good, as they should! A game mechanic like that shouldn't be locked behind a patent, and Nintendo didn't invent it either.

Nintendo wants to keep wasting money on bullshit lawsuits, real smart in this economy. They should put that money aside for other game projects. On the other hand, I don't care if they waste it all either, and they are screwed in the future maybe that will teach them a lesson.
