Assassin’s Creed Comet In Development By Ubisoft Quebec?

Earlier this year, we heard rumors about two in development Assassin’s Creed games, one known as Assassin’s Creed Unity and one known as Assassin’s Creed Comet. The rumors stated that Unity would be for the new current-gen consoles only, while Comet would be exclusive to last-gen, which likely meant just PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, but possibly Wii U based on the graphical capabilities. However, time has come and gone with only Unity being announced and a last-gen Assassin’s Creed game not even being hinted at during E3 last month.

rawshack4350d ago

i think they said for 360 and ps3 .but anything is possible i guess.

PlaystationSquuad4349d ago

You do know the PS3 and 360 are capable of producing HD graphics right? Assassin's Creed Comet will be HD on 360 and PS3 aswell

Magicite4349d ago

is this game coming out this year?

MrUnfamiler4349d ago

Assassin's Creed Comet makes me want AC in Space. Dont know how it would work, and frankly IDC, just do it.

LightDiego4349d ago

A comet would be an assassin and you need to kill dinosaurs and planets? That could work.

To stop the space templars

I just wish it's set in Ancient Rome.
Raymond talked to The Grid about why the Assassin’s Creed franchise is successful and went on to say, “there is an additional element of getting to relive and play a role in these pivotal moments in history,” she continued. “We work with historians to recreate these societies — ancient Rome, the French Revolution. And because each game is crafted in a new era, players don’t get tired of the it.”

Now, if you’ve played the Assassin’s Creed games you know that the series has already gone to Italy in previous games, but as VideoGamer is careful to note that Raymond said, “ancient” Rome, which could mean the game will take place an entirely different era. In 2011, Ubisoft sent out a survey to ask players about the future of the Assassin’s Creed series and one of the options listed “the rise of Caesar’s Empire in Ancient Rome”.

In addition, VideoGamer did some additional research and came up with information on Caesar’s Comet. This was at the time of Caesar’s death when one of the brightest comets in recorded history passed by the Earth.

A potential piece of concept art revealing the game’s main character also potentially leaked over the weekend which you can see below. The character certainly matches up with the ancient Rome setting.Though it's creator declared it a fake.

Hmmm... perhaps it will be a 2D platformer, like the Prince of Persia games, coming to XBLA and PSN... using the same engine they used for the Rayman games, and Child of Light!?

MatthewBandeira4344d ago

I doubt it. I think it will be similar to AC IV: Black Flag.

Yi-Long4344d ago

I doubt it. Full retail games often get info released for them usually a year orso in advance, sometimes maybe 6-8 months...

... but many downloadable games often get announced only a few months prior to release, if not even shorter.

The fact that we haven't read, seen or (really) heard anything about this new 'last-gen' Assassin's Creed, whil release is just a few months away, makes me believe it will be a smaller downloadable-only title.

And a while back there were rumours that Ubisoft was working on a new 2D Prince of Persia game, so perhaps that was actually a 2D Assassin's Creed game. Jumping roofs, sword fighting. It's not that farfetched.

Anyway, we'll see, but it wouldn't surprise me if this turns out to be a downloadable-only game, and a 2D platformer at that.

Which I would welcome, btw.

@Yi-Long

Assassin's Creed Unity had its first info released in June at E3, which is 4 months before the game comes out. Also, they don't want to take any of the thunder away from Unity so soon after its reveal by introducing a new AC title for last-gen consoles. That's probably the reason why they haven't said much about the last-gen AC game.

JimmyDM904344d ago

@ vampetz

The first teaser trailer/announcement for Unity was released back in April which is when Ubi usually announces new AC games. So that's about 6 months out from release.

Vampetz4343d ago

@JimmyDM90

While AC Unity was announced earlier, it was announced with relatively no info about the game or how it would play. And the OP talked about full retail games often getting info a year or so in advance, then saying maybe 6-8 months, which is what I was replying to in my original post.

could just be something like liberation...little side story type thing

360ICE4344d ago

I see absolutely no reason why they wouldn't use the same formula they've always used. Few things seem less realistic than this not being a normal AC game. I mean, this is AC we're talking about.

Neixus4344d ago

Last-Gen? Wouldn't previous-gen be more correct?

Allsystemgamer4344d ago

No. They mean the same thing. The last generation before the new generation.

4343d ago
LightDiego4344d ago

And we will pretend that we are surprised when they announce a port to the current generation a few months after the release.

Yi-Long4344d ago

Of course they will. It's Ubisoft.

Immorals4344d ago

And the tagline will be 'in full 1080p 60fps'.

And still charge full price

starchild4344d ago

PC will get both Assassin's Creed games either way.

ginsunuva4343d ago

I actually had a dream last night where I woke up and suddenly asked myself "What happened to the other AC game supposed to come out for last-gen?"

Then I realized "Wait, who cares?!" and went back to sleep.

Ubisoft: We 'Haven't Forgotten' Last-Gen Assassin's Creed Fans

IGN: "Ubisoft is aware that “Assassin’s Creed has a ton of fans that don’t have a next-gen system,” Key said, “so we’ll do our best to take care of them. As soon as we have something to talk about, we will.”

XiNarutoUzumaki4373d ago (Edited 4373d ago )

Translation: We haven't forgotten there are millions of wallets still in last gen that we can take money from.

XiSasukeUchiha4372d ago

Good translation, Naruto

OFF Topic: Ok I got the Edo Hokage, and now to proceed my talk with Hashirama in Konoha.

tracyllrkn4372d ago

Are these both of your accounts?

Clown_Syndr0me4372d ago

Well duhh, its a business. You do realise businesses aim to make money, right?

ArtificiallyYours4372d ago

Corporations are so voracious, right?

Never would have guessed.

osprey194372d ago

Explain how this is different from any gaming company? They all run on money, not the bottled passion of gamers.

KonsoruMasuta4372d ago

If they are different enough, I might buy both.

ThanatosDMC4372d ago

I want them to forget last gen all ready so PS4 doesnt get held back.

Clown_Syndr0me4372d ago (Edited 4372d ago )

They are two separate games entirely, they wont hold back current gen at all.

EDIT: So according to your comment below, a studio should only work on one game at a time? Theyre a business, they want to make as much profit as they can. Or do you not understand that concept?

ThanatosDMC4372d ago (Edited 4372d ago )

They're still using resources that could be used to improve the current gen games instead of last gen or do you not understand that concept?

I want a game to be the best it can be.

Edit: Nothing wrong with working with one game at a time. Look at Rockstar. No, duh that they're a business. What I dont understand is why you two non-gamers would not want a game to be the best they can be.

KonsoruMasuta4372d ago (Edited 4372d ago )

This won't hold the PS4 back. This is a completely different game. Unity was built for current gen consoles and is supposed to take full advantage of the power of current gen consoles.

Comet is for the 100 million + last gen console owners that haven't switched yet. There is still plenty of money to be made there.

KonsoruMasuta4372d ago (Edited 4372d ago )

"They're still using resources that could be used to improve the current gen games instead of last gen or do you not understand that concept? "

Do you not understand that it is completely possible for a company to make two completely different games at the same time without one of them getting held back? It's been done before.

Ubisoft isn't a 4 man studio. They have the man power and money to make this work.

Unity is only for current gen systems and will take full advantage of current gen systems. The only limiting factor is the current gen systems themselves. You wanted a game for PS4, they gave it to you.

cellur1114372d ago (Edited 4372d ago )

I want the main game on last gen ubisoft. Not Assassins creed 4.5.

bixxel4370d ago

I just want it to be set in Ancient Rome. And play as Brutus.
