IGN writes: "NIS America is getting behind the Nintendo DS in a big way. Among its slate of titles in cue is A Witch's Tale, a new action RPG that allows players to draw magic runes and cast attack spells. All combat actions like run, stab, swipe, and spells are executed with the stylus.
This fairy tale with a dark twist involves a 1,000-year-old legend about a tribe of powerful witches that used to live beneath our world. One day they invaded, but a mystical girl named Alice used their magic against them and sealed them away. However, the Witch Queen may still be active underground, plotting her return."

“Prior to our release of Z.H.P. Unlosing Ranger VS Darkdeath Evilman, it was a period of great struggle for us,” says NIS CEO Sohei Niikawa.

Gaming Nexus writes: "My DS collection is about fifty percent RPGs. That's a lot of games to try to spend an extended amount of time on, especially for a hand-held. I got to thinking that lately I just have too much on my plate. There are a number of portable role playing games now available across all hand-held consoles, and it seems like now more than ever you need to rise above the pack on those crowded game store shelves. A Witch's Tale from NIS tries to muscle in some space based on its attempts at being a more newbie friendly entry in the genre, similar to Rhapsody. Unfortunately for A Witch's Tale and developer HitMaker, this game is a far cry from being newbie friendly. While the difficulty may be a walk in the park, the game fails to provide the clear path that an inexperienced gamer would need to follow if they were to continue giving the RPG genre a chance."

A Witch's Tale is a disappointing attempt at an RPG. Combat never challenges you, worlds are drearily executed even when they have interesting ideas at heart, and your main character is loathsome. Why waste your time on a deeply flawed RPG when there are so many excellent ones available on the same platform?
