Bracken Lee-Rudolph from ITF Gaming writes: Gaming is a medium of entertainment that is starting to find its feet and mature as an art form. As such, video games and interactive media have begun to portray more sensitive material, and broach controversial topics. With more questionable content, the question has to be asked – where does questionable content in a game become excessive or needless?

Microsoft announced its financial results for Q3 of fiscal year 2026, including an update on its gaming Xbox business and more.
Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.
To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Thanks to the slip-up of an artist working on the title, we now have more evidence that a new Injustice game is in the works.

All available May 5.
I think the only game here for me is Nine Sols. Was always interested in that game.
Good month for me, I wanted that particular footy game and thought it might be due. Anyway who cares, shame about the site I'll miss the comment sections. All the best everyone.
Liked the article. I think the author did a pretty good job separating the questionable content into two categories: supplemental and needless. While I'd argue that GTA V's content is definitely a supplement to the game rather than a needless /detriment I agreed with mostly everything else. Good read.
Questionable content becomes excessive whenever the person PLAYING the game decides they aren't comfortable with the content.
There is no line to cross, just maturity levels that vary from person to person.
The context in which this author goes about this article is incorrect, even though it is his opinion. The brunt of his ridicule is focused on GTA V. Everything described therein the article is (as the poster above me stated) reflective of the individuals who play said games. That's what ESRB ratings are for, M stands for mature...and comprehension is key to understand said games.
GTA V (or the series in general) is centered on urban environments, and the inhabitants of said environments. The author of this is expecting GTA to be a game about white picket fences, and "good day neighbor" quotes. The content rating tells you everything you need to know about the games you buy, and in GTA V's case (as with all M rated games) it's content listing is on the back of the game case. GTA V's content listing is as follows:
Intense Violence
Blood and Gore
Nudity
*Mature Humor*
Strong Language
Strong Sexual Content
Use of Drugs and Alcohol
If any of the above offend you, and or you shiver at the thought of seeing it...then clearly you should not be playing the game...
My biggest problem with this is that he seems to have this way where he sounds like he's speaking for everybody,
"The level of violence, gore, discrimination, moral subversion or depravity only affect your game’s quality positively if they’re used effectively: in moderation, and not showcased ostentatiously"
key word being "your".
"that questionable content starts to outlive its usefulness in a game when it no longer adds to narrative, or constructively to the gameplay." i don't agree with that either, why does everything have to be there for some bigger reason, can't there be something just for the fun of it, is it really so much of a problem that you can you on huge killing sprees in prototype.
I don't know about anyone else, but i like variety in games, some should be over the top and some should be realistic, some clean some dirty, some wacky and nonsensical, some dark and serious.
It's better to have it there for those that want it instead of giving everyone less because of a few. They can always close their eyes and say "lalalala" but I can't do that and make content appear. Anyway I've seen gore/swear/etc filters so it's not a problem.
