I hope ps4 does get instant resume because it's amazing on my Xbox one. My only concern is there has been very little talk of when Sony users could see it. I remember hearing party chat was something they would patch into ps3 but never did . Hopefully that won't be the case with ps4. It has the arm processor for doing systems updates in the background so the hardware is there.

mmc-0074349d ago

PS4 already has party chat since launch. The PS3 can't do it because of lack of RAM.

The_Hero4349d ago (Edited 4349d ago )

Television:
Let me put it in simple terms.
There's nothing special about the Xbox TV, your DVR already does all of it.
It would have been interesting if it actually were DVR with RF inputs; replacing the need of your own DVR.
It's not. It needs your current DVR box in order to work.
So instead of having all of your channels pre-loaded, you have to manually name them one by one.
If your fan of the brand enough to do so, then talk about dedication.

For app switching, nothing is faster than pressing input on your remote.

It just waste electricity for nothing.
Me? I already have 2 TVs and watch both at the same time. If I'm not watching both, I only have 1 console open and the DVR is closed.

Kinect, voice commands, and app switching
Another thing the Ps4 has that I don't use.

Granted; if they could update it to have all of the upper PSN list and Icons, that would be great.

Likewise, for the few time I'd actually use it, it may not be that important as other updates should take priority, like MP3s.

If the User Interface of the Xbox One was more polished, you wouldn't need to use voice commands to go to certain out-of-reach areas.
It's design Forces you to use it, unlike the Wii U or the PS4 where everything is just One click away.

Resume games quickly
Something Sony was supposed to have but currently doesn't. Another thing in the update list.

Twitch integration
PS4 came out first with Twitch.
Then Xbox came out with a more refined version.
Now PS4 updated it to be superior. Also allowing Videos to be archived, 720p 60fps and more.

Controller battery life
The PS4 battery life could be better.
But at least they come with rechargeable batteries when you buy the console.

Frequent updates
Please, don't get me started on the dayone 10Gb mandatory update for Sniper Elite 3; or the forced to download DLC on Dead Rising 3 for 13Gb that you don't have access to; while other games suffers the same fate.

Updates on games comes in at the same rate.

Sony is currently working on it's PS Now streaming service, but unless they fix the price, it's doomed to fail.

The Truth can hurt some people.

Gaming1014348d ago (Edited 4348d ago )

It looks like someone working for Gamesbeat is feeling sorry they bought Microsoft shares and are now trying to spew nonsense in a feeble attempt to spread misinformation. The entire list can be summarized as "Shit that no one cares about or even noticed they had"

I mean, controller battery life? Really? No one heard of charging their controller while playing or not playing? Either with the free charge cable or with a controller stand? Give me a break... I still can't believe the One controller has 1950's technology with AA batteries... it makes the controller weigh so much more!

I had no idea being a more expensive, less powerful, useless piece of crap is now considered "better" lol

gamer11384348d ago

If you read, you'll see that I said PS3 in regards to party chat. And yes, the reason was due to a lack of ram. But they kept teasing they'd put it in somehow. Instant resume could go the same way. It's a very resource consuming feature and it could be the PS4 may never get it. That is why I was saying I hope the PS4 does get it because it's a great feature.

system224349d ago

agreed. this is definitely one thing the xbox does very well.

jebabcock4349d ago

Sigh... Does it always need to be a comparison? The x1 suffers from an identity issue... articles like this just enforce that... oh well..

Kingthrash3604349d ago (Edited 4349d ago )

Man a lot of x1 boasts this week...mostly opinion based like "x1 has best holiday line up" ...this article is fact tho..but such a minor comparison. Just for a win? Nobody is doing that for ps4. The minor wins seem desperate . where are the "ps4 duel shock 4 needs no AA batteries" or "the ps4 camera sold more than the bundled kinect camera"....stating these small wins would just be dumb ...smh that price drop must have done nothing for x1 because ms isn't boasting about a boost in sales...instead the are boasting a opinion....halo2 remake is the best game out this holiday for x1 IMO.

kickerz4349d ago

I'm actually really enjoying my xbox one. Such a well made console and so many excellent games coming out in the next 6 months.$500 well spent

showtimefolks4349d ago

xbox one always lives in shadow of ps4, and these article really don't help the xbox one brand crises.

Eejanaika4348d ago

Not really when their both selling well.
Fanboy's in general with their debates dont
help any brand in particular.

showtimefolks4348d ago

Eejanaika

what i meant was its always xbox one does this better than ps4 or its better than ps4 IMOP and here is why articles

Its a great system but it should shine on its own. Some people who in actuality are trying to help the xbox one brand, actually end up hurting it more

both are selling well and that's my original point too, xbox one doesn't need to live in ps4's shadow, do your own thing and shine within your own glory

gamer11384348d ago

Actually if you go back, you'll see the first article they did was "Xbox One vs PS4: What's Sony's machine still does better than Microsoft's." Just saying.

gamer11384348d ago (Edited 4348d ago )

@ The_Hero

Have you tried xbox one with a dvr plugged into it? It's a great feature and is one of the most used features on the xbox one. I did not have to program in my individual channels. I just selected my cable provider from the list and the One Guide updated with all of them, plus one guide can also have Netflix, amazon instant video etc added as well.

App switching. You say that nothing is faster than a button press. But how about multiple button presses? You have to come out of the game(1 button press) move to the new app(however many presses to navigate across) and then select that app(one more button press). It can be quick depending on what you're doing. BUT if i'm playing a game and I decide to switch over to netflix... "xbox, go to netflix" is just as quick as a button press.

Voice commands, if you don't want to use them, fine. Doesn't mean they don't have value for a lot of people and their responsiveness is being improved all the time.

Resume games quickly. See my original statement,. Just because it is on the update list does not guarantee it will come. See party chat for ps3. I hope it does though because it is great!

Controller battery life. I live in the UK, here the average price for a PS4 controller is £60. Xbox one controllers are £45. For the same price I can add a play and charge kit to my xbox one controller. OR just use my spare mouse and keyboard rechargeables. At least I have the option. I was at my friends playing FIFA on his PS4 and both our controllers were plugged in most of the time because the battery is shocking. For the DS4 to have roughly a third of the battery life of the DS3 is shocking.

Frequent updates. That is not what they were referring to when they were talking about updates. However, MS ethos with the xbox one was they wanted to give developers the option to get deep inside their games and be able to pretty much rewrite them if nesscary.

The truth hurts does it? Just sounds like you listed all your reasons why the above listed features don't suit your needs and thats fine. However, trying to belittle them and trash them when ALOT of people find them helpful and a bonus is pretty lame.

ALSO, you talk about wasting electricity. You have TWO FREAKING TVS! How is that not a waste? You could do everything on one with the xbox one! Albeit with the second screen snapped and a fraction of the size.

PS. We do agree on PS Now. Those prices have to change. It just seems like it would be less hassle to just buy a PS3 again and OWN the games fathering than renting and relying on the internet.

@Nextlevel
Ps4 does not have more games in development heck they have weak 2014 fall lineup
Ps4 does not run all multi better some ps4 games have framerate and texture issues
Ps4 does not have more first part games in development either its about equal if not lil more ms
Most games released in 2014 really?
ID@xbox has tons of indies did you not watch E3?

It is not even a year in yet we cant declare anything yes PS4 is outselling XB1 @ the moment but the Kinectless XB1 is selling well slowly closing the gap and Xmas with great games coming for Xb1 it will even draw closer..SMH#fanboys

Manic20144349d ago

Have to disagree on the first party development. We're not even sure about the amount both companies are currently developing. Although MS have trademarked two studio's yet we have not seen what they are upto. As for now we don't know what games or how many games studios of both side's are developing in total aprt for those announced.

Prime1574349d ago (Edited 4349d ago )

I have to disagree with most of Player002's post.

******PS4******
This is a list of PS4 games currently planned or released either at retail or via download

There are currently 272 games on this list (14 of which have been confirmed as free-to-play).

Exclusive = 27 (1 of these are free-to-play)
Sony Exclusive = 21
Console exclusive and/or timed = 77/3 (9 of these are free-to-play)
Multiplatform = 143 (3 of these are free-to-play)
Playable = 89 available to purchase (10 of these are exclusive to PS4)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...

******XB1******
This is a list of Xbox One games currently planned or released either at retail or via download.

There are currently 231 games on this list.

Exclusive = 33
Microsoft exclusive = 14
Console exclusive or timed = 19/3
Multiplatform = 162
Playable = 58 available to purchase (12 of these are exclusive to Xbox One)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...
***************

So:
"Ps4 does not have more games in development" is false as there are 41 more games announced for ps4 than for xb1.

"Most games released in 2014 really?" Yes, really, there are 89 games for ps4 users to play, and only 58 as of now, coupled with more announced for ps4.

"Ps4 does not have more first part games in development either its about equal if not lil more ms" I just think that this gif says a lot as Sony has a lot of studios with more than one team: http://www.google.com/imgre...

Concertoine4349d ago

The best thing PS4 has coming this year is LBP3, which is also on ps3. Both consoles have meh holiday line ups but xbox one has MCC and Sunset Overdrive which are both at least exclusives.

Prime1574348d ago

MCC VS TLOU:R (also exclusive by your standard)... subjective. Also, lbp3 ps3 date hadn't been announced on top of the surprise of it hitting ps4.

Fanboys in the Americas also forget that Sony had more market share in Europe and Japan last generation, so they have gamescom and TGS to save and plan for...

NewMonday4349d ago

@player002

I'm not good with math so can you pleas explain how XBone is "closing the gap" when it still gets outsold every month?

JeffGUNZ4349d ago

The numbers are less per month is what I assume he is saying. Lets make this simple;

Jimmy buys 10 eggs a week
Ryan buys 5 eggs a week

Ryan gets a raise:

Jimmy buys 10 eggs a week
Ryan buys 7 eggs a week.

Jimmy is still purchasing more eggs, but Ryan has closed the gap by reducing the difference. Get it? He never once said Xbox is now outselling Sony with their consoles.

Some people get so defensive on this site. Reading comprehension people, it does wonders.

NewMonday4349d ago (Edited 4349d ago )

@JeffGUNZ

the numbers are cumulative
10 eggs - 5 eggs = 5 eggs added to the gap
10 eggs - 7 eggs = 3 eggs added to the gap

5 eggs + 3 eggs = 8 egg gap total

the GAP GROWS from 5 to 8, the opposite of "closing down"

the shocking thing is you actually think you wrote something clever..SMH!

Christopher4349d ago

Yeah, @JeffGunz, that is bad math/logic there.

***slowly closing the gap***

That would mean that the difference in sales would be shrinking as a total, not growing. If PS4 is still selling more than the XBO per month, then that gap is continuing to grow. In order to close the gap at all, XBO would have to start selling more than the PS4.

JeffGUNZ4348d ago

Did any of you even get to the age where you lean math? That is correct math. The ps4 is selling more in the USA but the Xbox one has been showing an increase. You are able to close the gap and still be behind. The last NPd shows Xbox closing the gap. Sure it's not huge but it terms of sales in the USA the gap is closing. You can't spin that math to fit your agenda. Also, where do I ever say anything here that is negative against the ps4. I actually can't wait to get one when uncharted 4 is released. This site is hilarious.

NewMonday4348d ago

@JeffGUNZ

doubling down on magic math I see

and in the last NPD the rate of PS4 to XB1 sold actually increased.

When you wrote something like this, it's better to do some research on this. Xbone, even with without Kinect is not selling better.

I don't see that gap is closing.

IVIEDICATED4348d ago

The gap is growing not closing so way to lie. You seem to have a negative opinion on the PS4 so your clearly biased which is okay I guess but don't be a liar. There's well documented warehouses full of Xbox ones just sitting that nobody is buying you know this but act naive fine okay too buy don't lie outright because if you take out the first 2 or 3 months when the MAJORITY of X1's were sold then you're quiet wrong and the X1 is doing horrible. It's still yet to hit 5 million in worldwide sales. Their best plan is another fu**ING Forza game and a desperate Halo remake yeah good luck with that. Destiny and the Destiny PS4 will destroy everything and increase the lead PS4 world wide is selling 2-1 vs the X1 and it ain't getting smaller despite you're opinion.

Microsoft Gaming Revenue Drops 7% Year-on-Year, Content and Services Down 5%, Xbox Hardware Down 33%

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio24d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing24d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9224d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit24d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing24d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9224d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse

LMFAO Your comment alone says a lot more about you than anything else. When has one game not selling 10 million copies made a company raise the prices of their console? Athlon10127d ago (Edited 27d ago )

The price increases are due to the RAM demand associated with AI and the US-Iran war. You can look to any business news website and local news to see that. Heck, even the 2026 Asus Zenbook Duo I've been eyeing has faced delays and has had a price increase of $400; that laptop has two specs. Asus is doing a staggered release with per-orders for the lower spec now and shipping in May and pre-orders for the higher spec that I'm eyeing starting in June. Basically, all computer manufactures are affected. It'll most likely start affecting smart phones too if it hasn't already. I can't remember the last time any major console maker (Nintendo, Sony, Sega, etc) increased the price of their console mid cycle outside of Microsoft just to make more profit.

S2Killinit26d ago

Its not the war. Its the RAM issue.

jznrpg26d ago

War is causing gas prices to rise. Transport of everything requires gas so the prices of those items go up as well. So it does have an impact

Athlon10126d ago (Edited 26d ago )

The blockage of the Straight of Hormuz due to the US-Iran war has affected raw components used in semi-conductor manufacturing such as bromine, aluminum, and helium. Iran had attacked the liquified natural gas (LNG) plant in Qatar which is a large producer (1/3 globally) of helium which is used in semiconductor etching. So it's the both the war and the RAM crises.

badz14926d ago

Oh no...should I get the Pro now before the price increase?

Xbox boss: Memory crisis could impact next-gen hardware pricing

Xbox boss Asha Sharma has discussed how component shortages will impact the company's plans for Project Helix.

gamedeveloper.com
Eonjay26d ago

When does this end? Its killing everyone. Consoles and PC. And for what? AI? The benefits of AI are completely outweighed by the negatives. And the government should have never allowed one company to buy up all the RAM.

Lexreborn227d ago

This kind of proves this is an after thought product, most products like this are in r&d 5 years before they start mass producing. So they typically have the cost of components and things worked out long before assembly starts.

This is an assumption still, but I wouldn’t be surprised if project helix is similar to Scalebound, perfect dark and sod3. They had an idea but no actual execution other than concept stage. Being impacted by the ram shortage likely would also put this device 3-4 years out.

I’m not even sure MS has that endurance with Xbox yet

Fishy Fingers26d ago (Edited 26d ago )

I mean.... what?

We're at a point that Samsung wont even provide their own phone department ram because they can sell it at higher prices to 3rd parties (AI). Its more profitable to sell the ram than make their own devices with it.

You think because R&D starts 5 years ago the 3rd party component manufacturers will honour that price? They'll sell it to whomever is paying the most today, not some gentlemens agreement they made years ago. AI farms will buy more volume at higher prices than any console manufacturer will. It'll be the same for Playstation.

Lexreborn226d ago

Contractual agreements are not the same as “gentlemen” agreements. If you think that they work with their distributors a month before production then their entire business model is trash. They work with companies like nvidia constantly for building the graphics cards they need. They work with companies that build motherboards years in advance. This is what proper business planning does.

They are not buying components on a whim like a consumer. So again, considering the ram isn’t a singular module and is integrated into the motherboard I highly doubt they wouldn’t have a final schematic that they are supposed to be building around.

If they are delaying production another 3 years then it’s obvious again this is an after though project and is just trying to be responsive to their bad execution they had the last 14 years.

It also isn’t far fetched to use their failure to produce first party titles the last 7 years including the highly anticipated games I mentioned all being cancelled. That they would continue to you know… lie

Sitdown26d ago

You don't really know how this works huh?

Profchaos26d ago (Edited 26d ago )

Helix is going to be stupidly expensive

Instead of leaning into smarter upscaling techniques they're brute forcing hardware that will cost them dearly and it remains to be seen if it's genuinely going to provide a meaningful differential

I know in the oc.doace people like to brag about not using frame gen or dlss to get to high on a game but for the majority of players they happily use those technologies without a second thought

That's going to be ps6 vs Helix

Eonjay26d ago

Yeah with FSR 5 they should be able to offer a much cheaper version of Helix.

Eonjay26d ago

While this does seem to be the case, I am encouraged by the statement from Microsoft about wanting to provide affordable options. If this means a Series S style Helix, at least there will be something affordable being offered.

XBManiac26d ago

Series S is what has killed Xbox Series so... Will they dare?

blacktiger26d ago

It's called systematic inflationary. Yes we get it Microsoft, keep raising in the name ofall kinds of stuffs

pwnmaster300026d ago

Honestly if there was thing I learned from this generation is that new consoles arnt day one anymore.
I can wait 1-3 years.

DarXyde26d ago

Another important lesson from this generation: while Nintendo showed us that prices don't necessarily need to ever drop, we've now learned that waiting 1-3 years does carry some risk that prices increase. This generation is just bizarre in all the wrong ways.

LucasRuinedChildhood26d ago (Edited 26d ago )

The factors are largely external. Covid and Russia-Ukraine war causing inflation led to the first price increase in 2022.

Then we get Trump's tariffs increasing hardware prices, AI boom causing a RAM crisis, war on Iran causing a worldwide fuel crisis which impacts the cost of everything.

Gaming doesn't exist in a vacuum. The last few years have been a shitshow and lot of it was definitely avoidable.

DarXyde26d ago

LucasRuinedChildhood,

For sure. No disagreement on the external factors doing a lot of this. Where I have to gently push back however is on two fronts:

1. The pandemic definitely caused some issues: asynchronous development was a big issue and really complicated timelines and affected game quality. At the same time, when it comes to price hikes, it's really difficult to know what was genuine necessity and what was taking consumers for a ride. The pandemic brought about "stag-flation" which was increasing prices and stagnant wages, which was a problem caused by supply chain constraints. There was also "Greed-flation", where companies that were slightly affected or had no issues took advantage of the situation and squeezed everyone citing supply chain issues when there were none.

2. It's definitely true that the tariffs, AI boom, and RAM crisis were all things enabled by tech broligarchs throwing money at this caricature of a world leader, one of them being Satya Nadella. I don't think Sony and Nintendo have contributed much to this problem if at all, but Microsoft's Nadella I feel was instrumental in causing every one of those issues. Microsoft as a company contributed to both candidates (though they gave Harris 4x as much if I recall), but Nadella was all in on letting AI run wild. He paid for unregulated AI, and got a war that's not a war (even though Trump called it that at least five times on television) that screwed up helium access. So for me, I feel that one of the players in the gaming industry is a key architect of these issues, and for that reason I struggle a bit to think of it as "external".
