Maybe this could happen but the price of entry is expensive. They will have to bring it down a lot and add tons of games quick.

Come on. The price of the hardware and the target market is soooo different between the two it just can't really be compared.

Parents buy the kids a DS because it's what every one of their friends has, it's relatively cheap, and it'll keep busy and quiet on long trips. Now seniors have gotten in on the DS as well with all the Brain Training puzzle games (my mom loves her DS).

Apple may do well but it's designed and marketed as a music (and sometimes video) player, period. Without a major control scheme overhaul, the iPod will not work well with a wide variety of games and will be relegated to an also ran in the field of handheld gaming.

It'll likely hit a niche market somewhere around or just above cell phone gaming.

Apple is synonamous with overpriced. You won't EVER beat nintendo charging the prices apple charges for their equipment. Even in north america. I don't have an Iphone. If I wanted to crap in a box and not give a warranty for it, I could too. That's still not even going to compete with DS.

both the N-gage and I-pod probably costs the same, like $300ish, while the DS costs $120

This whole thing just makes me laugh. The Iphone has almost no chance. The DS is cheap and fun. The Iphone and expensive and gimmicky. Look at how the Ngage did. Most people don't care about their phone being a gaming device. That's why mobile gaming hasn't taken off in the US when they have great Mobile games in Japan. This is gonna be more of a + for people who own a Iphone but not a reason to buy one.

yes it might be good like some of the DS games but apple doesn't have any other game that have "flagship" characters like mario for nintendo. nintendo wouldn't allow games to be downloaded onto the iphone/ipod touch because that would be competition. i personaly don't have an ipod and the DS is good on trips so i'm gona keep on buying DS games and not going to buy an ipod or iphone.

Apple loves to make grandiose claims, but in the long run, they'll be shot down. Kill the DS? Give me a break. The DS is one of the top selling consoles around the globe, and most Apple sales are seen only in the US. Just like their ridiculous statement that the iPhone could compete with the portable systems market trying to take over the well established PSP and the even cheaper and more established Nintendo DS. New Nintendo DS: 110 dollars. New PSP: 170 dollars. The cheapest iPhone: 400 dollars. Sorry people, not gonna cut it. Even if Apple makes some rendition of the iPod for gaming, I seriously doubt that it's going to have any serious impact. Developers are already stretched out developing games for all of the already established consoles. And with Steve Jobs' notorious love of totalitarianism I seriously doubt that any developer would seriously consider developing for an Apple based platform. Let's remember the widespread success of Apple's first games console, the Pippin. *laughs uncontrollably*

Ridiculous. Obviously they know next to nothing about games. Why would you play games on iPhone/iTouch if you can play them on your DS and/or PSP? Apple (touch) devices are pricey. In no way will they take over market share of devices that were created for gaming and not as a side note. How many people have AT&T service? How many people are content with the iPod and won't upgrade to the "touch" variations. Perhaps I'm wrong...but I don't see this as happening.
