Missing PS4 Features Still Coming, Sony Says

Kotaku: "Way back in February of 2013, Sony indicated that the PS4 gamers would be able to put their console in sleep mode while playing a game and briskly return to it later. They also said that gamers could enlist a friend to take over a game via the Internet from another PS4."

randomass1714353d ago

Awesome! Hopefully they'll be added by the time I get one. :D

rodiabloalmeida4353d ago

I bet I'm the only one in this site that thinks the missing features should be avaliable on launch day or few days after, not almost a year after the launch or later yet.

FACTUAL evidence4353d ago

You're not the only one, pal. I was amazed my psOne can play cd's and my ps4 couldn't.

randomass1714353d ago

Well of course. The earlier those features hit the system the better and launch day would have certainly been ideal.

one2thr4353d ago

I was surprised that some of these features werent part of some surprise firmware date, like how they did with the PS3.

Why o why4353d ago

I was surprised the ps4 wasn't at least on par with the ps3 for features. You sir are NOT along.

badboyz094353d ago

We haven't gotten Wallpaper yet. So of-course future fractures are still coming. Were Are having too much playing games to worry about Future Updates :)

Mr Pumblechook4353d ago (Edited 4353d ago )

Srephen Totilo is a hater and his shabby 'article' is a thinly veiled attack piece. In the comments he even goes on to say that Microsoft are in a better place because they have made monthly updates. I watched him on the Gametrailers review of E3 and when Geoff Keighly said Microsoft had a bad E3 in 2013 Totilo attacked the statement and said this was 'revisionist' history and MS actually had a great 2013!

It just goes to show that even blog editors can be overwhelmed with bias.

Teddy-Duchamp4353d ago

I agree, woulda been nice to see features day 1.
However as early adopters, the majority of owners must have known the ps4 was a bit skinny on features during it infancy.

I would love to see Sony add some sort of timeline feature for ps4, like a visual representation of its development cycle.
Would be great to look back in say 3-4 years to see how it's grown.

medman4352d ago

I'm at a loss to explain why gamers can't understand that both Sony and Microsoft rushed their respective consoles to market to compete with each other. To make that deadline, they had to make concessions and not everything could be ready by launch. It was either get the consoles out the door in time for the holiday rush, or delay their releases for six to eight months to better implement software functionality. Considering how well the consoles (ps4 primarily) are selling, it's hard to argue with their strategy. And if they had decided to delay the releases of the consoles, there would be many gamers complaining about that decision. They can' win with some of you.

please update the ps4 so i can watch stuff of my external hard drive, pretty please

Muzikguy4353d ago

@rodia
You're not the only one. I've been trying to figure out why things that were so easily in one system get left out of another. Why did PS1 have those balls that played during music but no other one? Why can PS3 have DLNA but not PS4? Why did the PS1 & 2 have a bootup sound? I miss that!

Anyway, I believe most if not all that was on a previous system (software wise as long as it's not "major" like BC) should make it to new consoles. No reason themes were left out, folders are missing, DLNA is gone.... Yes I understand things take time but come on! Of it was done before it should already be done for the next round. My opinion anyway

ab5olut10n4353d ago

Pretty sure they left out dlna support so we'd have to use their streaming service, total douche move

Muzikguy4353d ago

I do agree with that idea but they can't honestly think people would fall for that. People aren't as easily swayed anymore and I'm sure Sony knows this

WitWolfy4353d ago

@ab5olut10n

Thats why I'm glad I have my own dedicated media center. Was a douche move indeed!

XiSasukeUchiha4353d ago

Cool, so Sony hasn't forgotten the features that were missing. Thank you Sony!

NeverStopGaming4353d ago

I can't wait. I've been missing having folders with all the games I have now.

Jeff2574353d ago

I want YouTube integrated before Destiny hits. I have been making some videos for MLB 14 The Show. But once Destiny hits I will be making a lot more vids and probably do more live streaming too. I have tried live streaming MLB 14 The Show but I hate how small it makes my screen and I need it larger for good timing on my hits. Smaller screen won't be much of an issue for FPS though.

As for the suspend feature. I am not sure if I would be able to use it because I am not the only one who plays the PS4 in my house.

Shuhei Yoshida Shares Why Releasing 1st-Party Games On PC Day One Is A Bad Strategy For PlayStation

I wonder if he tried to stop Shawn Layden from starting it?

Profchaos23d ago

Technically horizon came out in 2020 under Jim Ryan who took over in 2019

It's hard to tell who initiated the project but the Decima engine makes porting to PC fairly easy so who honestly knows if this was Jim's initiative or not I get the feeling it was

Redemption-6423d ago (Edited 23d ago )

It's actually not hard at all. Shawn Layden said he started it. Shawn Layden has confirmed that he was behind the strategy to bring PlayStation exclusive games to PC. Regardless of whether you hate Jim or not this wasn't his idea. It happened during his watch, but it was started before he took over. Below are links with him confirming it started with him

Reaper22_24d ago

Fake news. He didnt say that. This video was posted on YouTube and on here they decided to change the title. Shame on you.

i81duce24d ago

At 5:16, he literally states the thing you say he doesn’t say. Did you even watch the video?

GotGame81823d ago

Sony already said they weren't porting to PC anymore. Or, at least that is how I interpreted a couple of articles. I think if it were not for Helix, that may not have happened.

PlayStation legend Shuhei Yoshida says Jim Ryan fired him because he didn't listen to him

Why did Sony push Shuhei Yoshida out of his role leading PlayStation's first-party games? He'd overseen some huge successes. Well, apparently, he didn't listen.

Relientk7729d ago

Yeah I can see that for sure. Shuhei Yoshida should have been in charge not Jim Ryan.

Cacabunga29d ago

It should be free highway for him now.. but Sony are too stupid to see this, especially that moron Hulst

S2Killinit28d ago (Edited 28d ago )

Wtf why all that anger. PlayStation is dominating on every level. Besides I think there is a little more to hiring a CEO than just who is available. Its not like its a athlete your team wants to buy.

neutralgamer199228d ago

S2Killinit

live service failures, chasing trends, closing studios. yes dominating

Cacabunga28d ago

Sony is Dominating because competition is not existing. Compared to previous gens this is the poorest in terms of software offerings.

Last gen we got Uncharted 4 Lost Legacy and TLOU2 from ND alone.

This is so far a remasters gen, with no competition to lift up the quality

1nsomniac28d ago (Edited 28d ago )

..."PlayStation is dominating on every level"....

...Really???

PlayStation are soon heading into a new generation in the not to distant future. They currently have the worst customer satisfaction they've ever sustained as a company. The company is heading for a huge crash while at the same time they'll need to be planning how they are going to try and win back that favour and the build up to their new releases.

Yes financially they're winning but they're going to have to ride out this complete public corporate disaster. No one has faith in the company or the product anymore. They've damaged their public image so much this generation. Greed can kill anyone.

medman28d ago

Hulst is a disaster......

blacktiger28d ago

He would've done the same thing and fire Jim Ryan and Shuhei would be the villain. Why?
Because Elite creates the narrative and distraction for gamers, users and citizens.

Outside_ofthe_Box29d ago

More confirmation that Jim Ryan is the culprit for what has happened to Sony. Hulst needs to go too. What sucks is that a lot of the good top heads at Sony are no longer there. I wish that guys that were forced out prematurely by Dumbo Jimbo like Shuhei and Layden came back.

robtion28d ago

Yep. Yoshida was responsible for bringing one of the best games of this generation to playstation (Stellar Blade). He is an actual gamer and is in touch with what gamers want (creative, fun games, not GaaS and agenda pushing). He also seems like a genuinely nice guy if you watch some interviews. Of course they got rid of him.

darthv7229d ago

Makes you wonder if MS even thought about hiring him after Phil and Sarah were leaving. He certainly couldn't make their situation any worse.

Agent7528d ago

Microflop. After Windows XP and Xbox 360, it all went floppy.

S2Killinit28d ago

Floppy 😆
No pun intended

badz14929d ago

Yoshida for President! Jim Ryan was and always be a hack! Sony should get Shu back

Lightning7729d ago

All the gamer/consumer lead heads are gone across PS and Xbox. shuhei gone phil's gone (questionable) but gone. The future of gaming is somewhat uncertain across the board.

Former Sony president Shuhei Yoshida reveals why the original PS ultimately led to Bloodborne

Sony's bold entrance into the console market back in the '90s heralded the use of CD-ROMs instead of cartridges, which convinced several companies to jump on board the PlayStation train. It turns out FromSoftware was one of those companies lured in by the appeal of discs.
