Sony must be hating themselves in choosing the technical specifications of the Cell to run as the CPU for the PS3. Regardless of what it can do with 1st party studios, 3rd party studios are struggling with it - not enough resources to focus on it, and they just prefer working on the 360.

Lack of marketing for MGS4, poor hardware sales for GTA4, the Year of the PlayStation 3 is seemingly dying away slowly. Sony should be concerned

Sony chose hardware that developers were not ready for, financially and also speciality. Now they're trying to rush new technology and share that publicly with other developers to try and get a handle of the hardware, but still after 18 months of the consoles release, although we saw improvements in the perception of it, we're getting games either being delayed, stopped or even cancelled - this is becoming Sony's RROD in essence this generation, the sophistication of the hardware.

Customers deserve better.

Instead politicians here are hungry to criticise any developer or publisher for these short-comings when its become obvious its a widespread common problem, shouldn't the source be considered for blame - Sony?

The installbase is atleast 12million now, no developer or publisher will ignore the PS3. But for EA to cancel an RTS for the PS3, a genre which has little or no competition for, shouldn't be suggestive of ignorance, stupidity or favouritism but a sincere inability to provide it for the platform for technical reasons.

I'm still not sure how RTS's are going to fare on the consoles. It always seems like you are fighting with the analog controls when a mouse is a much better fit. I'll know tomorrow after I try out Civ Rev demo since I haven't played an RTS on a console yet. Anyway, if I was going to get this would have been on the PC.

Who the heck is looking forward to Red Alert 3 anyways because I know that I'm not. The Xbox 360 can keep the crappy 3rd party titles. The PS3 is still getting more 1st party and that's what matters.

Red Alert 3 will probably end up just like another cancelled PS3 game Frontlines Fuel of War, just another average game that 360 owners will buy or rent just to get their Gamerscore up or something. I'm not a fan of RTS games at ALL and they belong on the PC.

And he didn't say that the PS3 version was Officially cancelled either. I think it's funny how some of the people above actually think that Red Alert 3 being cancelled on the PS3 spells disaster for Sony.

With keyboard and mouse support on the PS3....you'd think this RTS would be a no-brainer for EA....but I guess not, right?

as EA looked really focused on the PS3 (let's forget about the orange box)...kind of contradictory to what they said some months ago and contradictory because we're talking about EA that ports a game to every single console and mobile available... a shame as the PS3 supports mouse and keyboard without any problem. RTS should be more atractive on the PS3..they just need to be released :(

Make sense.... RTS games do not sell well in Japan and many regions... they tend to sell well in the US... well Sony is not destroying the xbox 360 in the US as everyone though they would...

Also, they were probably looking closely at all the comments by PS3 fans every time a new RTS game was announced for the xbox 360 by saying... RTS on game console suck... and that it's not possible..
PS3 fans always have negative things to say about RTS games... and don't mention keyboard and mouse support... developers making games on consoles can't assume that everyone that owns a console will buy a keyboard and mouse or will want to use it.. and if they have a keyboard and mouse because they have a PC... why the hell they wouldn't buy the game for the PC then?

The xbox 360 already proved that it has a demographic for RTS games...

It's too risky to bring an RTS game to the PS3.. for the xbox 360 is a given... since developers don't have to built everything all over... PC vs xbox 360 are too alike not to do it... but for the PS3 the differences between the cell and development my not be profitable for games like RTS...

Microsoft made the right choice by making xbox 360 vs PC very similar.. so developers don't have to kill themselves in the process to port the games between platforms... unlike Sony....

The PS3 is just not the console of choice for any RTS fan....

oh and don't say the xbox 360 is not because it does not have a keyboard... the xbox 360 already have various RTS games that are proven to work with the gamepad... and also successful in terms of sells...

I loved red Alert 2 and Played it on the PC when I used to be a PC gamer more so than a Console one. Well I went in phazes. Started as a console only, then in College become a PCGamer Freak, now just a casual console gamer.

It irks me that the PS3 with it's Mouse & Keyboard options(something the 360 does not have) cannot get this game up and running.

Now I rather play RTS games with a mouse & keyboard but never did try LOTR(first RTS for 360) so I'm not sure how they fare with a controller.
Now that I've thought about it,I remember playing Red Alert for the PS1..haha(My buddy had it).

But Sony has the Tools meng!!! for this Genre..but what gives. The 360 is getting games left and right in all Genres.

to the PS3s game diversity. It simply does not have the the wide open range of game genre that you find on 360. PS3 is turning out to be the FPS console of this gen, it has more of those than anything. 360 seems to have all the RPGs, JRPGs, RTSs,and low budget lowprice titles, and that is before you even include XBLA.

Like I said once before, so much for the year of the PS3.

my friend and I are actually looking forward to this game on PS3. the cost of upgrading my computer every year sucks. plus everybody playing the game will have the same specs so graphics will be the same. i always had to play at minimum performance settings cause my computer could never play at high res.

The Red Alert games were some of my favorite RTS games. On the bright side, I can always get it for my PC, but no LAN parties, since my most of my friends PC may not meet the recommended specs.

The fact that this game is on consoles at all means it's completely ruined.

Guys, let's face it, it was gonna be too much a waste of money for EA to sell RA3 on PS3. You know how awfully they support their older RTS games after announcing a new one. It would've been more trouble to make it on PS3 and sell it, they would've lost profit and time. They probably also didn't get enough developpers working on the PS3 version, meaning they wouldn't have finished work on it by the end of the year.

I was personally going to buy it on PS3...but meh, I still prefer it on PC and was going to get it for PC anyway.

The PS3 is not a console for RTS games or all games in general, it is more of a console for original titles, not mainstream cross-platform titles. I am a proud owner of pswii60. (meaning all 3 consoles) The 360 already sells much more games than the PS3. I tried Tiberium Wars on Xbox 360, and it was rather dull, I believe. I didn't feel as free as playing it on PC. Imagine RA3, which is much less of a fast-paced RTS game. Yes, the PS3 does support HD and mouse and keyboards, so it would've been fine, but coding a game for the PS3 is a pain in the rear compared to porting it to the Xbox from PC.

How in the hell cancelled games are good for a console? the more diversity and gaming options it have to offer, the better.

If i remember correctly gears 2 is the only real real hit coming out this year by most 360 owners high AAA high standards. My gaming standards are a little more oldskool so it selling 2 trillion copies to other people doesn't outweigh good game play and story and a memorable experience.

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. Yoshida played a huge role in shaping the brand, so whatever the reason, his impact is undeniable.

If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.
