Tech Analysis: Grand Theft Auto 5 on PS4

Rockstar Games typically steers well clear of E3, but it did choose to make a big announcement to coincide with the event this year - the reveal of the much-anticipated next-gen version of Grand Theft Auto 5, coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC in the autumn. Clocking in at just over a minute, the trailer takes us through a large number of environments across Los Santos and beyond, illustrating the changes and improvements made to the visuals.

Really annoyed they didn't say anything about this until E3, was waiting since before PS4 even launched for news on port, but better late then never I guess. Def worth picking up at some point though never played it before and those graphics look pretty good.

if you haven't played GTA5 before than it should be on top of your fall 2014 games list. Last gen consoles held back the real potential of GTA5, now on next gen along with PC. This is the real GTA5

YodaCracker4366d ago (Edited 4366d ago )

As much as the 360 and PS3 held back GTA V, it still looks pretty freakin' incredible on that old hardware and better than most current gen games, in my opinion.

And GTA V on the new consoles is nothing. Just imagine a GTA game built from the ground up to harness the power of the PS4/XB1. I can't even imagine how incredible that will look. Hopefully we don't have to wait until 2018!

Although, I imagine a new Red Dead will be Rockstar's true open world debut for the new consoles.

UltraNova4366d ago (Edited 4366d ago )

From the article:
"Rockstar could very easily have updated the game with a simple resolution increase and a performance jump, but all the indications are that the studio has decided to go the extra mile and deliver a significantly upgraded experience"

There's a reason why Rockstar is the no 1 developer in the world (this is coming from a Naughty Dog massive fan)its because they never skimp on anything no matter how small and insignificant. Everything they release has to be absolutely optimized to what is technologically and humanly possible at the time, and lots of time it takes them to get it out of course.

With GTA5's extensive re-working to next gen they paved they way for other Studios who consider remastering titles to follow suit.

What I mean is that we now have an example of what a true remaster title should be. Not just a rezzed up port.

The last of us remaster is of-course the second example but the scale difference and the amount of work required for GTA 5 is on another level in my humble opinion. Then again Rockstar is more than 3 times the studio ND is so there you have it...

From the looks of it Rockstar delivers once again. Well maybe I can forgive them for the mess GTA 4 was..hmm not just yet.

PS: Who's anxious for a GTAV PS4 vs Watchdogs PS4 comparison? I know I am!

Matt6664366d ago

They should of just waited for the PS4/Xbox 1 anyway I will be one of these people who won't be buying it again because in my opinion I enjoy GTA SA/VC a lot more then I enjoyed GTA 5

You missed out. I am STILL playing this game....and on a daily basis. It's the best GTA IMO.

Sevir4366d ago

I have to say, having seen the video comparisons between the PS3 and PS4 versions It is a much more impressive remaster than I gave it credit for. Everything about it looks impressive.

The character models could still UAE some touch up, but the overall jump to next gen gave the game some seriously impressive visuals.

Still won't bother getting it though. I'm not a GTA fan.

Adding in that last sentence made your entire comment irrelevant. You admire the game for it's impressive leap in graphical performance, then you say you won't bother getting it because your not a GTA fan? Sounds like you're fishing with troll bait.

Give the game a shot. You might like it.

ZombieKiller4362d ago

Because he has an N4G account and that's what it's for. Didn't know you weren't allowed to comment on a game you haven't played.

Sometimes I think comment/forum police are worse than people that "needlessly comment"

Perfect example right here:
0P-Tigrex has less of a relevant thing to say than the person he asked about.

My point, live and let live. Stop complaining about cluter in something with limitless space.

showtimefolks4366d ago

the game is possibly 4 plus months from release so they will have plenty of my time to fix whatever needs fixing. This is R* after all

also if i was you i would gibe GTA5 a chance, its unlike prior GTA games.

0P-Tigrex4366d ago (Edited 4366d ago )

I'm blown away by the added foliage and level of detail/textures/lighting in the game. Can't believe it's getting this big of a graphical enhancement. I'm glad I waited to buy this on Ps4.

I seen a cat jump off the wall on the franklin scene lol

Hazmat134366d ago

the upgrade on next gen consoles (current gen) is impressive as hell. but on PC? my face just melts... haha any way you play lets hope the upgrade was worth on what it seems to be a 60 dollar release.

PlayStation Store’s top downloads of 2025

O'Dell Harmon Jr. writes: "Before we say goodbye to 2025, let’s take a look back and see what were the most downloaded games of the year. It was a great time for sports, shooters, and some new PlayStation VR2 games. Sports favorites topped the charts in US/Canada and EU, with NBA 2K26 and EA Sports FC26, respectively.

Juggernaut GTA V found a home in the top three for both regions, with new 2025 release Battlefield 6 claiming second place in the US. Fortnite took top place for free-to-play games, and Beat Saber continues its PS VR2 success."

FH5 4th in Europe compared to North America 14th. Not surprising.

LucasRuinedChildhood136d ago

I think it shows how shortsighted it was for Sony to let go of Evolution and not get them to make some sort of competitor (open world Driveclub?) 10 years ago.

bionicstar136d ago (Edited 136d ago )

its a hard bet to make. hindsight is always 20/20.

Christopher135d ago

After Driveclub's reception, hard to say it would have done well enough to compete. It's easy to dream of such a thing, but to make it happen? It's taken how long for CoD to be dethroned? And it was dethroned by Hogwart's Legacy and has gained it right back just the next year.

It’s funny to watch the only games EU and USA agree on was Minecraft and back ops 7 both regions on 6 and 7 spot respectively other than that FIFA rules EU

gold_drake135d ago

yeh, football is really popular here in europe ha

I would like to see a list that has both free to play and paid games together, but at least we have this.

To this day GTA5 is a top downloaded game and it makes me wonder if the industry is really ready for GTA6. I imagine almost nothing else will sell during that game's release window.

I’ve never played Fortnite GTAV or CoD BO7 but I do own GTAV for PS4/5 because I got them cheap.

gold_drake144d ago

i think we should either take those games out, or make a singleplayer list too ha

badboyz09144d ago

I still play gta V alot. The others nah.

Popsicle144d ago

This is why we can’t have nice things.

Tacoboto144d ago

What exactly are we not getting?

Did we not just have a 2025 filled with nice games like...

Silksong, Doom TDA, Expedition 33, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, Ghost of Yotei, Dispatch, Split Fiction, Hades 2, DK Bananza, and so many more?

Popsicle143d ago

Agree that all you just posted are great games. Expedition 33 is one of my favorites. Spent a large chunk of time on BG3 in 2023. Another for my all-time list.

My point though not well articulated in the OG post is that we would get more of the games of the quality you mentioned if so many valuable resources were not allocated to FTP slop and/or heavy monetization schemes. Some of what used to be my favorite franchises have been ruined by them.

To sum it up, I would like to see games like 33 outperform the profits made by games like Fortnite so more resources are allocated to great games. When heavily monetized FTP games are at the top of the list, we end up being stuck with a significant chunk of games that are not good. Or worst case scenario games that spend years in development, but get cancelled due to industry trend chasing.

cloganart144d ago

Such a pessimistic view. This year gave so many good games.

Christopher143d ago

Popsicle, I actually think we're getting more great games because of the slop. Developers are seeing that people aren't happy and taking advantage of big AAA studios not delivering for people.

Popsicle143d ago (Edited 143d ago )

Perhaps, and I hope you’re right. A shift is needed IMO
