Twinfinite writes:

We weren’t sure what 2014 would bring for Microsoft, but we hoped they had learned their lesson. After their presentation at E3 this year, it seems that they’ve done just that.

All in all I thought ms had one of the best shows second only to nintendo. They show a bunch of games that got me excited and anticipating their release. I like the fact that they gave people what they wanted and only showed games and no fillers or stat and tv, tect and more tv and stats.

I also liked the fact they didn't you idiotic buzzwords like console launch exclusive or console debut. Like you fooling anyone to believe its exclusive to one platform when in reality it isn't. I was disappointed with the exclusive DLC but hey I understand since others are doing the same and it's business.

Good work ms. Keep it up

Nitrowolf24353d ago

This was a good E3 overall form all fronts, BUT EA.

vega2754353d ago

i didnt watch EA show. so i have no idea what they have in the pipes. i know one thing. it will be awhile before i buy another battlefield game until the bugs are fixed. battlefield 4 is still buggy as hell

creatchee4353d ago

EA really needed to quit it with the conceptual pre-alpha crap. Hardline and Dragon Age looked great though.

nthstew4353d ago

good but not mind blowing they pretty much showed all muliplatform games which will eventually look and perform better on ps4.. lacked new exclusives games and no halo 5 gameplay surprised me..

FYT- I own both consoles and a high-end PC..

AngelicIceDiamond4353d ago

It was excellent Phil said Games, Games, games, games and that's exactly what we got.

MS brought back Crack Down 3 resurrected Phantom Dust introduced Platinum Games new Ip Scale Bound. PG have an excellent track record so SB will be great.

SSOD looks super fun. Ori And The Forest look unique and Inside looks depressing (in a good way)

Only draw back was conkerer smh.

Other than that Halo MCC with Halo 5 beta just sooo much goin on one of MS best conferences so far. It was reminiscent of 05 or 06 E3's.

Hellsvacancy4353d ago (Edited 4353d ago )

I liked it, I preferred it to Sonys, in MY opinion Sony had the better games but MS for once just got on with it, I quite liked Phil aswel, very listenable/likeable guy, unlike Greenberg and the other 90% that represent MS

I didn't really warm to that Sony guy either, the big Soprano looking guy, it's a shame Jack is gone

Miss_Vixen4353d ago

Agreed. Jack had such a warm & vibrant presence on stage.
I'm not really fond of the new guy either. I do however don't mind the likes of Andrew, especially Shuhei.

JBSleek4353d ago

I thought MS the second best conference behind Nintendo and slightly better than Ubisoft.

This holiday season looks very strong for MS and the future looks bright as well but I pretty much liked all the conferences except for EA.

Let_the_games_begin4353d ago

So, what did we learn from Microsoft's press conference?

More rehashing of Forza. That's a good thing... according to Xbox fans. Though, last I checked Forza has declined both in critical acclaim and sales since Forza 3. Ahem.

Sunset Overdrive. Well, this game is just pure garbage. No other word for it. Sorry. But, I have to come out with it. I'm entitled to an opinion. The dialogue and the game's "vibe" is horrible.

Halo 5. Another Halo. Still, can't win GOTY for 12 years running. A record of sorts. Lol. Another trailer. Yawn.

Crackdown 3. ANOTHER shooter. Microsoft sure know how to "saturate" a genre. Lol.

Microsoft won "nothing".

Just a bunch of fan boys who are trying to satisfy their Xbox purchase.

Let's see how well these games do.

They won't put a "dent" on PS4's NPD monthly sales. Not a dent. Not even Halo 5.

Dewitt4353d ago

Sorry no you are not entitled to your opinion when your blinders are fully closed for anything that a company has to show. I award you no points and may God have mercy on your soul.

JBSleek4353d ago

But why are you so angry that people are enjoying the games that they want?

Clearly you don't like the games that the Xbox One is offering but that doesn't mean you have to hate so much dude, we are all gamers...Relax.

It's really not that serious.

Let_the_games_begin4353d ago

Who's angry?

I'm not angry.

I'm just telling it how it is.

The problem is that "telling it how it is" gets enterpreted as "FANBOY FANBOY ALERT".

It's pathetic.

History has shown that PlayStation has ALWAYS had the best games.

That was proven ONCE AGAIN at E3.

Microsoft showed games. Sure. But, only Halo is going to sell millions. Even so, it's never going to be the way it was under Bungie's guidance.

JBSleek4353d ago (Edited 4353d ago )

I got you now.

You are one of those people who say that their opinions are fact and anyone who doesn't agree with you is a fanboy.

Clearly no one is going to change your mind and those are your opinions but you come off as really idiotic when you refer to your opinion as the right one.

Just some advice. People have opinions, they differ from yours, your opinions aren't fact.

PS4 isn't the best place to game. Having multiple consoles is. PS4,Xbox One, Wii U, PC. Uncharted 4, Halo 5, Super Smash Bros, Civ:Beyond Earth.

Now I know you will say I'm a fanboy because I didn't agree that PS4 is the best place to game, it's one of them but not the definitive one.

Time to grow up :)

Let_the_games_begin4353d ago

*smirk*

Yeah. That's why you "disagree" with everything I say.

Spoken like a true Xbot.

Keep telling yourself that PS4 "isn't the best platform" to game on.

PS4 superior multi plats, exclusives, and system features say otherwise.

XD.

Dewitt4353d ago (Edited 4353d ago )

"PS4 superior multi plats, exclusives, and system features say otherwise."

What are these almighty next-gen features and exclusives? I have been trying to find a reason to buy a PS4 this year, but guess what besides TLOU remastered they have nothing exclusive coming till February of next year. It is June so that is 8 months away.

Meanwhile XB1 has Forza Horizon, D4, MCC, Sunset Overdrive (which looks insanely fun btw), Ori, and Project Spark (Beta is fantastic). Not as a fanboy, but as a gamer I am seeing alot more on XB1 that people will want to play.

Elit3Nick4353d ago

"system features" ha, that was a good laugh, care to share more funny jokes.

As for exclusives, you have to nerve to say that your "telling it as it is" will be interpreted as fanboyism, yet that's exactly what it is. A person's preference for exclusives is unique for each person, you come here dismissing xbox's biggest brands, Halo and Forza, because they're being "rehashed" and then putting down Sunset Overdrive and Crackdown for no reason whatsoever. So by that logic, Sony's biggest IPs, like Uncharted, is also bad because it's also "rehashed".

You truly are entitled to your opinion, but when you come here and start saying that everyone else's opinion is invalid, then the only thing you are entitled to is getting bashed and flagged

hello124353d ago

Sunset overdrive is crap now lol ok . Man this site is a joke.

Sony fans remind me of American republicans. X box fans are the democrats.

MysticStrummer4353d ago

That's silly on several levels. The fact that you have more agrees than disagrees just shows how little people pay attention.

Gazondaily4353d ago

What a useless post lmao.

The insecurity is almost tangible.

Sunset Overdrive is pure garbage? Oh you've played it have you?

"I'm entitled to an opinion"

Of yes of course you are. But we're also entitled to laugh at you for your ridiculously ill-founded opinion.

"Just a bunch of fan boys who are trying to satisfy their Xbox purchase. "

Wow. Speaking of opinions, I'm of the opinion that you're not even a gamer. If you are, you represent the WORST element of the fanbase, with NOTHING positive to add to any part of this industry.

JBSleek4353d ago

I only disagree with what you say because you coming off as an asshole, pardon my language.

I like the PS4. To me Uncharted was a graphical masterpiece when I saw it and I freaked out.

Not once did I call you a fanboy and not once did I say PS4 was bad at all.

I was merely alluding to the fact that all systems have great exclusives and if given the opportunity gamers should have all of them.

Or you could continue to be bitter and miss out on some really good games. But you call yourself a gamer right... The way you are talking you don't play games, you play Sony...

Pablo184744353d ago Show
jnemesh4353d ago (Edited 4353d ago )

Agreed. The list of exclusive games for 2014 that they showed includes Forza Horizons 2, Sunset Overhype, Fantasia, Dance Central, DLC for KI (yay?), DLC for Project Spark (which pissed off everyone who got excited at the possibility of a new Conker game!), Ori and the Blind Forest (indies are fine on Xbox, but don't dare mention them on PS4!), and...

cue heavenly beam of light and angels singing)

HALO! Not the new game, mind you, that won't be out until LATE next year, after NEXT E3...but hey, at least you get to play Halo 1-4! Halo fans already have bought an Xbox One...or have already made up their mind to buy one when Halo comes out...it will do absolutely NOTHING for the rest of us who have outgrown the series.

The REST of what they showed were pre-rendered CGI teasers for games not coming until after NEXT E3 (and, I suspect, in at least one or two cases, until 2016!).

NOT ONE THING THEY SHOWED WILL CHANGE THE TRAJECTORY FOR THE XBOX ONE! It will continue to sell poorly until MS can give "average" gamers a reason to own one! NOT ONE GAME SHOWN has that potential. NOT ONE.

Sony had a FAR superior showing...their presentation sucked, yes...but WHAT they were showing was far more diverse than MS, AND they showed a little something for ALL TYPES of gamers! Oh, and the multiplatform titles Sony showed, including Destiny, Arkham Knight, and MGS V will all have exclusive content for PS4 owners...not timed exclusives, mind you...but full on, in your face, xbox fans will never play it exclusivity. This gives gamers a REASON to buy a PS4 over an Xbox! So does Playstation Now...which will give PS4 owners the ability to have some kind of backwards compatibility. So does Playstation TV...which will let PS4 owners share their console between different TVs in the home. So does Morpheus, which will bring a whole new experience to gamers that MS is going to (again) be three years late to the party (at least).

The ONLY people who think MS "won" are blind fanboys who ignore facts. Like the FACT that the White PS4/Destiny bundle is currently ranked #7 on Amazon right now, with the standard PS4 ranked at #9...while the $399 Xbox One is at number #47. THAT should tell you who "won" E3, right there. So, for the rest of you trolls, who have been bashing "Let_the_games_begin& quot ; ...take a good HARD look at yourselves before you slam others for being "fanboys".

Dewitt4353d ago (Edited 4353d ago )

MS had 5 stage demos, but I guess all they showed was CGI silly me. Look at the lineup for 2014 for both Sony and MS and tell me who has the superior offerings, it's not even close. Also, about Halo let's forget that it is the best bundle ever constructed and will sell millions of copies and just focus on the fact it is a remaster of 4 games. Meanwhile TLOU remastered is the same game for 60 dollars that just released last year and that is the best thing coming to PS4 till 2015.

If you seriously think Sony had the better E3 conference then you are completely clueless about what gamers want and what makes a good conference, because you are wrong on both fronts.

Lawboy24353d ago (Edited 4353d ago )

Wait did u say DLC for KI?..gtfo

jnemesh4353d ago

@Dewitt, again, go look at the Amazon rankings...Yes Halo 1-4 preorder is sitting pretty, but HARDWARE sales for the Xbox are FAR below the PS4. Again, the lineup for 2014 (not 2015, not 2016) is Forza Horizons 2, Sunset Overhype, Fantasia, Dance Central, Ori and the Blind Forest, DLC for Project Spark and Killer Instinct, and Halo 1-4. Do you think ANY of those games other than Halo are going to sell over 1 million copies? I sure don't. Do you think ANY of them are going to move hardware? Not a chance. Fanboys think MS won, everyone else, including Forbes, Business Insider, and IGN, think Sony won. Take your fanboy glasses off and LOOK.

Microsoft Gaming Revenue Drops 7% Year-on-Year, Content and Services Down 5%, Xbox Hardware Down 33%

Microsoft announced its financial results for Q3 of fiscal year 2026, including an update on its gaming Xbox business and more.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio13d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing13d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9213d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit13d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing13d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9213d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse

Xbox boss: Memory crisis could impact next-gen hardware pricing

Xbox boss Asha Sharma has discussed how component shortages will impact the company's plans for Project Helix.

gamedeveloper.com
Eonjay15d ago

When does this end? Its killing everyone. Consoles and PC. And for what? AI? The benefits of AI are completely outweighed by the negatives. And the government should have never allowed one company to buy up all the RAM.

Lexreborn215d ago

This kind of proves this is an after thought product, most products like this are in r&d 5 years before they start mass producing. So they typically have the cost of components and things worked out long before assembly starts.

This is an assumption still, but I wouldn’t be surprised if project helix is similar to Scalebound, perfect dark and sod3. They had an idea but no actual execution other than concept stage. Being impacted by the ram shortage likely would also put this device 3-4 years out.

I’m not even sure MS has that endurance with Xbox yet

Fishy Fingers15d ago (Edited 15d ago )

I mean.... what?

We're at a point that Samsung wont even provide their own phone department ram because they can sell it at higher prices to 3rd parties (AI). Its more profitable to sell the ram than make their own devices with it.

You think because R&D starts 5 years ago the 3rd party component manufacturers will honour that price? They'll sell it to whomever is paying the most today, not some gentlemens agreement they made years ago. AI farms will buy more volume at higher prices than any console manufacturer will. It'll be the same for Playstation.

Lexreborn214d ago

Contractual agreements are not the same as “gentlemen” agreements. If you think that they work with their distributors a month before production then their entire business model is trash. They work with companies like nvidia constantly for building the graphics cards they need. They work with companies that build motherboards years in advance. This is what proper business planning does.

They are not buying components on a whim like a consumer. So again, considering the ram isn’t a singular module and is integrated into the motherboard I highly doubt they wouldn’t have a final schematic that they are supposed to be building around.

If they are delaying production another 3 years then it’s obvious again this is an after though project and is just trying to be responsive to their bad execution they had the last 14 years.

It also isn’t far fetched to use their failure to produce first party titles the last 7 years including the highly anticipated games I mentioned all being cancelled. That they would continue to you know… lie

Sitdown15d ago

You don't really know how this works huh?

Profchaos15d ago (Edited 15d ago )

Helix is going to be stupidly expensive

Instead of leaning into smarter upscaling techniques they're brute forcing hardware that will cost them dearly and it remains to be seen if it's genuinely going to provide a meaningful differential

I know in the oc.doace people like to brag about not using frame gen or dlss to get to high on a game but for the majority of players they happily use those technologies without a second thought

That's going to be ps6 vs Helix

Eonjay15d ago

Yeah with FSR 5 they should be able to offer a much cheaper version of Helix.

Eonjay15d ago

While this does seem to be the case, I am encouraged by the statement from Microsoft about wanting to provide affordable options. If this means a Series S style Helix, at least there will be something affordable being offered.

XBManiac14d ago

Series S is what has killed Xbox Series so... Will they dare?

blacktiger15d ago

It's called systematic inflationary. Yes we get it Microsoft, keep raising in the name ofall kinds of stuffs

pwnmaster300015d ago

Honestly if there was thing I learned from this generation is that new consoles arnt day one anymore.
I can wait 1-3 years.

DarXyde15d ago

Another important lesson from this generation: while Nintendo showed us that prices don't necessarily need to ever drop, we've now learned that waiting 1-3 years does carry some risk that prices increase. This generation is just bizarre in all the wrong ways.

LucasRuinedChildhood15d ago (Edited 15d ago )

The factors are largely external. Covid and Russia-Ukraine war causing inflation led to the first price increase in 2022.

Then we get Trump's tariffs increasing hardware prices, AI boom causing a RAM crisis, war on Iran causing a worldwide fuel crisis which impacts the cost of everything.

Gaming doesn't exist in a vacuum. The last few years have been a shitshow and lot of it was definitely avoidable.

DarXyde14d ago

LucasRuinedChildhood,

For sure. No disagreement on the external factors doing a lot of this. Where I have to gently push back however is on two fronts:

1. The pandemic definitely caused some issues: asynchronous development was a big issue and really complicated timelines and affected game quality. At the same time, when it comes to price hikes, it's really difficult to know what was genuine necessity and what was taking consumers for a ride. The pandemic brought about "stag-flation" which was increasing prices and stagnant wages, which was a problem caused by supply chain constraints. There was also "Greed-flation", where companies that were slightly affected or had no issues took advantage of the situation and squeezed everyone citing supply chain issues when there were none.

2. It's definitely true that the tariffs, AI boom, and RAM crisis were all things enabled by tech broligarchs throwing money at this caricature of a world leader, one of them being Satya Nadella. I don't think Sony and Nintendo have contributed much to this problem if at all, but Microsoft's Nadella I feel was instrumental in causing every one of those issues. Microsoft as a company contributed to both candidates (though they gave Harris 4x as much if I recall), but Nadella was all in on letting AI run wild. He paid for unregulated AI, and got a war that's not a war (even though Trump called it that at least five times on television) that screwed up helium access. So for me, I feel that one of the players in the gaming industry is a key architect of these issues, and for that reason I struggle a bit to think of it as "external".

A good start would be to release games to go with the console. My Xbox Series X has gathered dust virtually from launch. My advice would be to ditch a next console and release games on PC, PlayStation and Switch. Another idea would be a hybrid console based on Xbox Series X tech and go the same route as Nintendo. Another idea would be to pull out of gaming altogether. Plenty of options there.

Reaper22_14d ago

Why would they pull out? They have the momentum. Sony has been getting nothing but bad news lately.
