Missing in Action - E3 No Shows

GR-UK writes: "There were plenty of stellar announcements made during this year's E3 - new Tomb Raider, collected Halo remasters, Bloodborne, Crackdown, the list goes on and on - but there was also some notable absentees. Here we consider some of the games that we'd have liked to have seen more of at this year's show."

Still waiting for Project Offset

Now there is one I had been interested in back in 2006.

Last Guardian is in danger of becoming a Shenmue 3. The anticipation for it is dragging out to the extent that when/if it emerges, so much time has passed that it can't possibly live up to expectations.

Different situation. Shenmue 3 has never been in development past a script. The Last Guardian had a full trailer, screenshots, and is constantly claimed to be in varying stages of development, even though nothing has been shown in five years.

Granted the situation isn't quite the same. But as you said, nothing has been shown in 5 years.

If Shenmue 3 was announced tomorrow, at first I would be hyped but then reality would tap me on the shoulder and ask 'do you really think this is going to be all you've hoped for?' to which I would honestly have to reply, no.

Games that live for years in development with brief glimpses every couple of years just don't result in anything that matches that initial greatness. *cough Aliens..Duke Nuke'em cough*

Ahhh I see what you are getting at. I agree - at this point, TLG and Shenmue 3 are set up to be disappointments simply because we've been allowed to dream of how amazing they could be - to the point where we already have an ideal vision as to what each would be. And once you establish that ideal vision, nothing else can compare. Damned time.
