Personally i was impressed. They showed what i really cared for games and lots of it no gimmicks no sales numbers jargon just awesome games

4Sh0w4342d ago (Edited 4342d ago )

Same here, that hit most of my Wish List so I'm pretty excited right now.

Here's everything I wanted from my Wish List last night:

Halo5 gameplay
Gears4 trailer
Ryse 2 announcement
A good Kinect game
Crackdown announcement
Show me some cool Project Spark stuff
2 new IP announcements/trailers would be great or substitute 1 with possible hint at Alan Wake2
Then show alot more Sunset Overdrive gameplay
Some Fable Legends gameplay
Forza Horizon2 gameplay
Wish for a Halo MC collection but will take HD remake of Halo2
http://n4g.com/news/1524655...

-So no Gears4 trailer, no Ryse2 announcement, Alan Wake2 announcement, Dance Central is good news for my wife but not what I was looking for but they also did in fact announce a Master Chief collection(I could not stop smiling) because I went in thinking wasn't going to happen at all from the twitter mess I'd heard, plus the short Phantom Dust trailer was a nice tease and out of nowhere a exclusive from Platinum Games with ScaleBound all were some nice highlights to the list. Overall definitely a B+ from me because they showed nothing but games, games, games.

AngelicIceDiamond4342d ago

Agreed lots of much needed variety in games finally more indie support even nabbing a exclusive indie game.

JohnJ4342d ago

Microsoft nailed it!
- games galore,
Sunset Overdrive!!!!

Take all my money

NatureOfLogic_4342d ago

Well they didn't lie about bringing the games (they just forgot to mention mostly multiplats). Also the funny thing is, indies were the most interesting titles, yet Xbox fanboys always dismiss them.

u got owned4342d ago

They did a good job i think. They said this E3 was about games and that's what they showed. I think it missed something maybe one more big surprise but overall great showing.

Me too got to see the ip's I'm excited about and it was nice to see Phil thanking us gamers for the feedback regarding the Xbox one and that Microsoft are now going to start to deliver on what the gamers want as well as what they want from the Xbox one. Really do think we will see some big things from Microsoft over the next few years regarding the Xbox one.

metatronx4342d ago

Well the things is we already knew about SO, forza 2, Spark, fable legend. So basically, only 4 news game including 1 remake. How is that impressive with all the hype that Phil promised before E3?

mcstorm4342d ago

It all depends on the games you want. For me I don't have the time to game like I did when I was younger and I was excited to see Halo Collection and Forza Horizon 2 as I loved the 1st.

I did not expect to see any big hitters as such as we knew Halo 5 was out next year and I expect Gears 4 will be out in 2016. People seem to forget Phil has only been the head of the xbox division for under 12 months and it takes time to make games and change everything. Look at the PS3 last gen it Took Sony 3 years to start giving us big games. I expect Microsoft to hit us next E3 with some new IP's and bring back some old ones too.

As Phil said in the conference Microsoft are working on bring the best IP's and gaming experience so another 12 months in which is when a console tends to hit its stride anyway and the xbox one will have some big IP's.

People seem to forget that the xbox one has some big IP's already and more than the PS4 at this moment in time in terms of exclusives.

Im happy the way Microsoft are going under Phil and I believe he can turn the xbox division around.

No looking forward to seeing what Sony and Nintendo offer next as I also love there IP's too.

BattleN4342d ago

Personally I was dissatisfied, No gears 4 tease and mostly everthing else is also on Ps4 :(

JohnJ4342d ago (Edited 4342d ago )

Sunset overdrive?
Forza Horizon2?
Project Spark?
Oci + the bind forest?
Deadrising3 cool dlc?
Fable Legends?
Scalebound?
Crackdown?
Phantom Dust?

All exclusive - did you watch the right conference?

xx4xx4342d ago

Not sure what would have satisfied you.
Not enough exclusive content? Not sure which conference you are referring to then.

Nobody is more echoed for next hem Gears than I am and I can tell you that I'm glad the game want shown. Is been in development for 4 months......4 months. What did you want them to show? A 10 second trailer? What's the point?

StealthPandemic4342d ago

What is it with you people. "no gears 4 tease", they just acquired the game few months ago. Do you really expect them to make the game in 6 months? Hell they're probably in the prototype gameplay phase. So needy.

"mostly everything else is also on Ps4"
Sunset Overdrive
Forza Horzion 2
Dead Rising 3 (DLC)
Fable Legends
Scalebound
Crackdown
Phantom Dust
Ori and The Blind Forest
Happy Wars
Halo 5/Collection

Are on PS4?

4Sh0w4342d ago (Edited 4342d ago )

@xx4xx

lol, You are exactly right, the only reason Gears4 was on my Wish List is because its 1 of my top 5 favorite franchises from last gen and well I was just praying for a tiny teaser; but yeah I know nothings ready yet so that expectation is a bit unreasonable.

There's no twisting it, whether you're a fan of micro or not, they delivered a wide variety of content, perfect mix of multi's, AAA's, a couple surprise exclusives, Halo stuff and instead showing a lot of indies on stage, they highlighted some of the best indie games, hell my biggest complaint was showing a lengthy COD gameplay first up and I actually like COD but from there on it was a great show.

jessupj4342d ago

@JohnJ

"Sunset overdrive?
Forza Horizon2?
Project Spark?
Oci + the bind forest?
Deadrising3 cool dlc?
Fable Legends?
Scalebound?
Crackdown?
Phantom Dust?

All exclusive - did you watch the right conference?"

But how many of those were just cgi trailers?

BattleN4342d ago

Witcher 3
Assassin creed
tomb raider many of those indi too
Crack down is a terrible francise
Sunset Overdrive looks cool tho

aconnellan4342d ago

@jessupj

By my count, Sony had around 8 cgi trailers in their conference, as opposed to the 5 from your list. What's your point?

tuglu_pati4342d ago

solid conference packed with games.

ConfettiYeti4342d ago

The conference was solid. I rate it a B or 7/10, which ever you prefer. They came out and did what they said they would. But it just lacked a heavy hitter.

As someone on the fence about buying the Xbox 1, it did not do enough for me to want to run out and purchase the system. The one shining moment was Halo 2's original multiplayer coming back for the remake, I loved my 360 pre-kinect conferences/abandonment of the hardcore audience this made me excited. But nothing else, Crackdown has always been a let down for me and Sunset Overdrive just does nothing for me. Not big into racing sims so anything Forza is a wash , but I do love my Mariokart 8. The Platinum games exclusive looks like it could be interesting, so I'll keep an eye out for that.

I just feel slightly let down, I was hoping for a reason to make me run out and buy the system. It just did not deliver. One day I will buy an Xbox 1, but it still looks to be way off in the distance. I hope all of the Xbox 1 guys enjoyed the conference, I know if you already own a 1 then this must have helped you feel more validated in your purchase. Happy gaming.

NBT914342d ago

Same. It didn't completely sell me on the Xbox One. It did, however make me think "Well, I most probably wouldn't regret buying one if I did..."

Vegamyster4342d ago

Definitely wasn't bad as some have put it, EA's was much weaker in my opinion. Can't wait to see Sony's & Nintendo's offerings.

avengers19784342d ago

Overall I give them a B
They focused on games, showed off support for indies, but nothing surprising, nothing really huge.

Sunset overdrive gameplay, crackdown 3, and there indies were the best of there show IMO

truefan14342d ago (Edited 4342d ago )

Not NUCLEAR, but a very strong showing by MSFT. They still have a lot to showcase, 3 Japanese games, D4, Halo 5, Quantum Break, Gears. I was pleased they showcased nothing but games, I think the leaks hurt their show though. I already guessed Crackdown, we knew about the Platinum games IP, I knew about Phantom Dust, and we knew about the Halo Collection. Those alone made this a really good showing, it would have been better if they were a surprise though. I feel great about the future of XB1 gaming and I think they showcased enough to sway a few on the fence to make the leap.

Magicite4342d ago

They showed almost no gameplay for exclusives.

Mystogan4342d ago

Halo 1 and 2 anniversary , Halo 3 and 4. All in the same package for just $60. That was enough to make the show a success.

hello124342d ago

I have been reading other forums and the belief is Microsoft had a good conference. N4G might think differently.

My personal view their conference was solid, but Microsoft lacked a killer game or two, for people to want to buy an xb1.

HammockGames4342d ago (Edited 4342d ago )

Agreed regarding the killer game aspect.

The original Gears of War is what sold me on the 360 - unbelievable combo of gameplay and graphics (the first real "next gen" game at the time).

Some solid games on display today, but probably not enough to convince me to make the leap. Yet...

Cheers

Why o why4342d ago

Trust me. The first gears of war showed me what 'next gen' was.... I was well impressed. As with most things that have factions, MS's conference will be graded in comparison to sony and nintendos. Lets see if sonyncan at least give us a surprise or something mega.

DigitalRaptor4342d ago (Edited 4342d ago )

N4G doesn't believe that Microsoft had a bad conference. Surprising since we're apparently mostly Sony fanboys. Most people i've seen on here, even big Sony fans are saying that they had a good conference.

What they are also saying is that it was an "underwhelming" conference based on what Phil Spencer, Microsoft and the fans were leading everyone to believe. It was a 90% multiplatform conference. It was safe. We knew practically everything they were going to announce before they announced it, through leaks and stuff they already showed days and weeks before the conference.

I was expecting a number of showstoppers based on the pre-conference hype. There were precisely none.

AngelicIceDiamond4342d ago

"What they are also saying is that it was an "underwhelming" conference based on what Phil Spencer, Microsoft and the fans were leading everyone to believe."

Not underwhelming just over hyped. That massive leak didn't help MS in anyway. The Master Chief collection FH2 plus others its unfortunate.

That doesn't mean they didn't have a great show even though knowing the big games were leaked.

This E3 is better than last years and any year before imo.

MysticStrummer4342d ago

"N4G doesn't believe that Microsoft had a bad conference. Surprising since we're apparently mostly Sony fanboys. Most people i've seen on here, even big Sony fans are saying that they had a good conference."

Yup. Even the worst comments are saying it was "ok at best". Not bad for the Sony cesspool this is supposed to be, but even mild criticism is being labeled "fear" "hate" and "trolling" by some.

"I was expecting a number of showstoppers based on the pre-conference hype."

Yup again. I thought MS would bring more surprises to the show, especially when certain titles were supposedly revealed early for that very purpose. Instead they showed those titles again and brought out very little that wasn't either known already or expected.

LogicStomper4342d ago (Edited 4342d ago )

"So that was it? Is this really the show Xbox fans have hoped for? I never would've thought that I would say this, but Call of Duty actually wowed me the most today."

"Pretty lackluster conference. Dare I say, a bit boring. "

"I am seriously disappointed at the utter lack of surprises so far."

"Too many third parties"

"where is the "UMPH"?? it seemed kind of uninspired. I was holding a lot of hope for E3 this year."

"fail conferance just fail hahaha"

" Not a horrible press conference, not totally boring but no real flavor either, kind of like a bowl of oatmeal with no milk, sugar or any other flavoring."

"Have to say, that was underwhelming to me.. "

"That was garbage!"

"in my opinion ms needed to smash it this E3 and they didnt"

"This show was a C. Every game that i was interested in .. is MP. Surprised there wasn't any "Megaton"."

"Nope still no reason to get one. All multi plat games"

"Well sorry Microsoft but i wasn't really impressed... 3/10 rating from me"

"xbone dead" - yeah, this one doesn't really count. It's just trolling.

"Overall, the conference did not live up to the hype"

"I thought today was a pre-show sort of reveal, and that the big stuff from microsoft is on stage within the next few days ?"

"MS conference was meh too much relying on third party titles. Nothing was a surprise announcement really other than Scalebound."

"That was it? Are they being serious? FFS Phil :-(."

"Yeah and most of those games you can get on other platforms I'm sorry but to me it was a boring show. "

"Not very exciting was it. All the new stuff was dodgy looking CGI that seems to be made by the same studio judging by the character animations and colors schemes.

Overall disappointing."

"So where are all the Megatons, that all the insiders claim to have seen? All the surprises that was gonna blow our minds.

I'm still waiting."

"Well that was a let down"

"they lost e3"

"still see no reason to buy an XBone"

"Big letdown."

"Quite a letdown. Sort of an E3 2013.5."

"If that's all Microsoft had to show...then I'm not really impressed at all"

"That was awful. No XBOX worth buying this year"

"Lame show, there I said it, Ms Is the one who has to prove it's metal more than Sony here and they have not really impressed"

And for the 90% thing, I wouldn't necessarily consider 16/25 games 90% (try the math if you want to check).

JohnJ4342d ago

Sunset Overdrive is that killer game

HammockGames4342d ago (Edited 4342d ago )

You may be right. At least, it seems like it has the potential.

Strikes me as the kind of game from Insomniac that I've grown to love over the years. (doesn't take itself too seriously, over the top, etc)

I'll wait to see what the reviews and users say about it this fall.

MonsterChef4342d ago

Microsoft usually drops the ball at e3 and even though they didn't slam dunk it at least they didn't drop it, I feel though they set themselves up to have an underwhelming e3 it wasn't bad I enjoyd all the trailers but I didn't see that one game that one game that you shut all the lights off for and your room just rumbles from the audio. they didn't show a true killer app, and what happen to them doing something that no one had ever done before at e3?

BattleN4342d ago

Lol mabe it was the ppl sitting on the couch talking about multi plat oldschool games!

Hellsvacancy4342d ago (Edited 4342d ago )

Atleast they got on with it, they did show game after game pretty much, I liked that part of it, Phil was also very listenable, he seems like quite a likeable guy

I was watching it waiting for some kind of huge announcement, but it didn't come

That Limbo type game looked terrific, i'm kinda gutted i'll have to wait longer to play it on the PS4

nicksetzer14342d ago

Sunset overdrive, halo collection, halo 5, forza horizon 2, crackdown, d4, phantom dust, quantum break, iro, fable legends, and theres still more.

If you are expecting more than that from any other company, you are in for a real disappointment.

Convas4342d ago

MS did a SOLID job. Spencer said it'd be games, and it was GAMES. Wall to Wall.

2014 looks promising for the XONE and so does 2015 and beyond.

Anyone who wants to say the conference was mediocre simply because they didn't have enough super megaton bombs (that would've likely been more cursed "money hats" that ya'll supposedly despise) is a fool.

It's great that the multiplats were running on XONE too.

torchic4342d ago (Edited 4342d ago )

the way Phil Spencer was going on we were all expecting the second coming. he and the Microsoft fan club made us believe megaton bombs were coming.
and of the exclusives we saw there was nothing mind blowing & no gameplay I mean just take a look at the Ubisoft conference, some incredible stuff being shown there... I guess the word I'm looking for is ambition. there is nothing particularly "ambitious" being made exclusively for X1 atm

but yes it was a good show. very solid but definitely not wow but after many poor showings at E3 this conference was a way of stabilising the rocky ship.

Microsoft Gaming Revenue Drops 7% Year-on-Year, Content and Services Down 5%, Xbox Hardware Down 33%

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio5h ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing3h ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster924h ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit4h ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing3h ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster921h ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse

Xbox boss: Memory crisis could impact next-gen hardware pricing

Xbox boss Asha Sharma has discussed how component shortages will impact the company's plans for Project Helix.

gamedeveloper.com
Eonjay2d ago

When does this end? Its killing everyone. Consoles and PC. And for what? AI? The benefits of AI are completely outweighed by the negatives. And the government should have never allowed one company to buy up all the RAM.

Lexreborn22d ago

This kind of proves this is an after thought product, most products like this are in r&d 5 years before they start mass producing. So they typically have the cost of components and things worked out long before assembly starts.

This is an assumption still, but I wouldn’t be surprised if project helix is similar to Scalebound, perfect dark and sod3. They had an idea but no actual execution other than concept stage. Being impacted by the ram shortage likely would also put this device 3-4 years out.

I’m not even sure MS has that endurance with Xbox yet

Fishy Fingers2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

I mean.... what?

We're at a point that Samsung wont even provide their own phone department ram because they can sell it at higher prices to 3rd parties (AI). Its more profitable to sell the ram than make their own devices with it.

You think because R&D starts 5 years ago the 3rd party component manufacturers will honour that price? They'll sell it to whomever is paying the most today, not some gentlemens agreement they made years ago. AI farms will buy more volume at higher prices than any console manufacturer will. It'll be the same for Playstation.

Lexreborn21d 21h ago

Contractual agreements are not the same as “gentlemen” agreements. If you think that they work with their distributors a month before production then their entire business model is trash. They work with companies like nvidia constantly for building the graphics cards they need. They work with companies that build motherboards years in advance. This is what proper business planning does.

They are not buying components on a whim like a consumer. So again, considering the ram isn’t a singular module and is integrated into the motherboard I highly doubt they wouldn’t have a final schematic that they are supposed to be building around.

If they are delaying production another 3 years then it’s obvious again this is an after though project and is just trying to be responsive to their bad execution they had the last 14 years.

It also isn’t far fetched to use their failure to produce first party titles the last 7 years including the highly anticipated games I mentioned all being cancelled. That they would continue to you know… lie

Sitdown2d ago

You don't really know how this works huh?

Profchaos2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Helix is going to be stupidly expensive

Instead of leaning into smarter upscaling techniques they're brute forcing hardware that will cost them dearly and it remains to be seen if it's genuinely going to provide a meaningful differential

I know in the oc.doace people like to brag about not using frame gen or dlss to get to high on a game but for the majority of players they happily use those technologies without a second thought

That's going to be ps6 vs Helix

Eonjay1d 23h ago

Yeah with FSR 5 they should be able to offer a much cheaper version of Helix.

Eonjay1d 23h ago

While this does seem to be the case, I am encouraged by the statement from Microsoft about wanting to provide affordable options. If this means a Series S style Helix, at least there will be something affordable being offered.

XBManiac1d 16h ago

Series S is what has killed Xbox Series so... Will they dare?

blacktiger2d ago

It's called systematic inflationary. Yes we get it Microsoft, keep raising in the name ofall kinds of stuffs

pwnmaster30002d ago

Honestly if there was thing I learned from this generation is that new consoles arnt day one anymore.
I can wait 1-3 years.

DarXyde2d ago

Another important lesson from this generation: while Nintendo showed us that prices don't necessarily need to ever drop, we've now learned that waiting 1-3 years does carry some risk that prices increase. This generation is just bizarre in all the wrong ways.

LucasRuinedChildhood2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

The factors are largely external. Covid and Russia-Ukraine war causing inflation led to the first price increase in 2022.

Then we get Trump's tariffs increasing hardware prices, AI boom causing a RAM crisis, war on Iran causing a worldwide fuel crisis which impacts the cost of everything.

Gaming doesn't exist in a vacuum. The last few years have been a shitshow and lot of it was definitely avoidable.

DarXyde1d 20h ago

LucasRuinedChildhood,

For sure. No disagreement on the external factors doing a lot of this. Where I have to gently push back however is on two fronts:

1. The pandemic definitely caused some issues: asynchronous development was a big issue and really complicated timelines and affected game quality. At the same time, when it comes to price hikes, it's really difficult to know what was genuine necessity and what was taking consumers for a ride. The pandemic brought about "stag-flation" which was increasing prices and stagnant wages, which was a problem caused by supply chain constraints. There was also "Greed-flation", where companies that were slightly affected or had no issues took advantage of the situation and squeezed everyone citing supply chain issues when there were none.

2. It's definitely true that the tariffs, AI boom, and RAM crisis were all things enabled by tech broligarchs throwing money at this caricature of a world leader, one of them being Satya Nadella. I don't think Sony and Nintendo have contributed much to this problem if at all, but Microsoft's Nadella I feel was instrumental in causing every one of those issues. Microsoft as a company contributed to both candidates (though they gave Harris 4x as much if I recall), but Nadella was all in on letting AI run wild. He paid for unregulated AI, and got a war that's not a war (even though Trump called it that at least five times on television) that screwed up helium access. So for me, I feel that one of the players in the gaming industry is a key architect of these issues, and for that reason I struggle a bit to think of it as "external".

A good start would be to release games to go with the console. My Xbox Series X has gathered dust virtually from launch. My advice would be to ditch a next console and release games on PC, PlayStation and Switch. Another idea would be a hybrid console based on Xbox Series X tech and go the same route as Nintendo. Another idea would be to pull out of gaming altogether. Plenty of options there.

Reaper22_1d 7h ago

Why would they pull out? They have the momentum. Sony has been getting nothing but bad news lately.
