Halo vs Uncharted: who will win E3 2014?

What will be E3 2014′s game of the show? vg247 takes a look at the heavyweights headed to downtown L.A. and place some informed bets.

Rickgrimes954377d ago

Yea an halo is for halo fans I just said the one I'm most excited for just an opinion

crxss4377d ago

Uncharted will win at E3. Halo will sell more.

mcstorm4377d ago

How about the gamers win as we get 2 great games as we all know UC and Halo are amazing games but two different game too.

alexkoepp4377d ago

Just look at sales history, Halo crushes Uncharted. Of course Halo wins its not even a competition.

Gazondaily4377d ago (Edited 4377d ago )

Personally, Im a big Halo fan and it's one of my best gaming franchises of all time.

Uncharted may wow gamers more though because it will blow our expectations wide open with its visuals.

Both games are in a class of their own but Halo did more for the industry as a whole and will for me, always be king.

Still, being such a big fan also means Im one of its biggest critics and if it doesn't live up to the hype then I'll be the first to say so.

Both are mammoth franchises though. Let's see which game generates more buzz!

CernaML4377d ago

@alex
Just look at GOTY awards history, Uncharted crushes Halo. Of course Uncharted wins its not even a competition.

805Junior8054377d ago

I doubt halo will sell more, Halo 5 will be on Xbox One only and Uncharted will Be on PS4 only, respectively, who has the larger instal base?

VforVideogames4377d ago

may be uncharted, god of war, killzone and (adyourfavoritegamehere) combined vs HALO.

Revolver_X_4377d ago

@Vfor

Halo because it's the full package. 343i have proved they can provide a fantastic single player, and with the help they brought in for the multiplayer, no other game can match that balance. (PS I enjoyed Halo 4 mp). Uncharted is a solid game, but Halo is just on another level. Slide Halo in at the #2 or slot for most iconic gaming franchise behind Mario.

Also people love to compare console sales, can we compare the software sales of Halo and uncharted? halo4 $220 million in 24 hours, not to mention Halo went head to head with multiplat Call of Duty for years. I think its safe to say Master Chief is more known than Nathan Drake.

We all know the point of this article so I participated.

LazyGoron4377d ago

Halo 5 will flop, similar to most of what MS has done this generation. Every single thing MS has done since the X1 reveal is:

Hype (gauge reaction) - change stance - attempt to purchase 3rd party exclusives - hype (gauge reaction) - repeat

BTW there are more Honda's sold than Ferrari's, doesn't make the Honda better.

Gazondaily4377d ago

@LazyGoron

Quite a silly post and obviously showing some insecurity.

Halo 5 will flop? Lol you wish.

And your Honda vs Ferrari comparison is laughable.

hankmoody4377d ago

@lazygoron

LMAO Uh... no. Halo 5 is not going to flop. You might wish that it will but it won't.

805Junior8054377d ago (Edited 4377d ago )

Pokemon is behind Mario as the most iconic gaming franchise. Halo is iconic in the US behind Call Of Dury. You are a trueXboxFan boy... Halo won't do as well as it's predecessors unfortunately. Titanfall flopped, did well, but flopped and it released across Xbox consoles and pc. Halo will be Xbox one only, it won't do well. Decent, but will once again not expectations.

mrpsychoticstalker4377d ago

Obviously Halo, the first Halo revolutionized the gaming industry. It still serves as an inspiration for many other games.

Halo 5 is set to keep its reputation.

Is there a real question here? Uncharted hands down. I've enjoyed Halo, and Guardians may be great, but more than likely it'll be a rehash of Reach (which was the best imo).

beans4377d ago

Really? I thought Reach sucked in comparison of Halo Combat Evolved imo.

On topic both will be great showings so neither will win unless one is by far graphically superior then the other.

Ghost_Nappa4377d ago

Reach was a bastard on legendary solo.

OpieWinston4377d ago

Reach was far from the best.
Halo 2 best MP
Halo 4 best Campaign
Halo 3 ODST best Co-op

And how is Halo 5 a rehash of Reach? Reach made a bunch of half measures, which pushed 343 to make those full measures in 4.

They've got tons of feedback from it so I imagine that 5 will be NOTHING like Reach.

And there's no way to answer that question until we see both games, so you saying "Uncharted hands down" just fits your picture.

Dirtnapstor4377d ago

@ beans
Yes the original was really good. For me, by the time Reach rolled around, it was a refreshing take on the series.

@ Opie
ODST should have been called Orbital Drop Ship Sleeper! Lol! I think they put together all the cutting room floor segments from everything else into one game.
The fourth installment was really good also. I hope for the best with Guardians.

As I stated below, both will be incredible for their own genres...one cannot really compare the two, for they are entirely different creatures.

DigitalRaptor4377d ago (Edited 4377d ago )

Both different genres. Neither are coming out this year. Only one will blow minds graphically. At least some of us have the decency to admit that both games have the potential to excel for their respective consoles.

Bigpappy4377d ago

I would just say that if I was surrounded in battle and the both show up, I am going where ever Master Chief is going. Not only that, but I hope they attack.

plaZeHD4377d ago

Agreed. IMO Halo has always been too damn boring, but to each their own.

EveryPlatformGamer4377d ago

BOTH!! I will be buying both on day 1! both are great games and both usually have great graphics and game play.
Why does one have to win over the other? why cant both be winners? I cant wait to play the next halo game on my X1 which I know for sure will be THE GAME to show off to the doubters just what the X1 can achieve.

People who think X1 us not capable of 60fps games with stunning graphics are delusional.
However people who also think X1 will be able to catch up or surpass the PS4 power are even more delusional! even with the so called DX12 and cloud(LMAO).
Halo 5 multi player should be EPIC at 60fps!

I know for a fact uncharted on PS4 will set the graphical benchmark for consoles games as soon as its released. Uncharted 2 to this day looks amazing and most importantly plays great too.
I think the true winners are the core gamers who are able to put childish fan-boy rubbish aside and embrace being a true gamer who owns and games on all platforms! or at the very least if not as fortunate to buy all platforms, still remains objective and appreciates that every game and platform have their pro's and con's.

jnemesh4377d ago

Considering Halo 5 isn't going to be released until after NEXT e3, Uncharted. Why even show games that won't ship until fall 2015???

No_Limit4377d ago

Neither, Wii U Zelda will Win!!!

FamilyGuy4377d ago

It depends on your definition of "winning".

Uncharted takes on awards like no other and typically raises the bar on visuals and entertaining story telling.

Halo has a massive following with the sales to back it up with a storyline/universe that many fans love and can't wait to get back into. Halo games are fun and their online multiplayer communities last for yeeears.

With Bungie now tied up with Destiny it will be interesting to see where MS takes Halo and if it can still live up to its predecessors.

BLow4377d ago

Why not both. As a gamer, I want both to win. Both will be amazing!!!

liquidhalos4377d ago

Both hopefully, I'm really looking forward to playing them, after recently playing Uncharted 3 I'm now a big fan if both. 2 great examples of different genres

Ctiboi20104377d ago

Both maybe? I don't know why there has to be a winner since they're both great games...not everything has to be a competition.

Clover9044377d ago

Great games, in two different genres no less.

Belasco4377d ago

Bubbles for "well said". We need more like you around here.

Visiblemarc4377d ago (Edited 4377d ago )

You got one from me for the same reason. Balance should be encouraged.

The one I'm most anticipating is Uncharted. While I think Guardians will be great and do love FPS games, lately TPS games get me more excited. Also, well...next gen Naughty Dog? Yes please.

parentoftheyear4377d ago

Looking forward to this. Have a ps4 but new crackdown or halo 5 and the Xbox 1 will be mine. On yes, she will be mine.

Dirtnapstor4377d ago

Very true. Both can be a superb experience for their individual genres.

Geoff9004377d ago

It amuses me greatly when people say it's a war, and declare someone as a winner...

Both franchises, games, consoles, companies etc co-exist, and will for a very long time...

Mr_Luke4377d ago

I guess, in their own way, they're going to win. Both of them.

Jdoki4377d ago

I would imagine PS4 fans will say Uncharted no matter what, and XB1 fans will say Halo no matter what! But I'm just guessing!!

I suspect the majority of US media will claim MS won E3, and the rest of the world will say Sony edged it.

I would think we might see about a million opinion pieces from people who were not even at E3 who will claim either MS, Sony, or maybe even Nintendo won.

But as I say... Just guessing!! :)

Clover9044377d ago

Nah, Oculus is going to win e3 this year. Exclusive games, a release date, and an unveiling of the final first gen consumer model!

If that doesn't happen, then Sony wins.... no matter what!

beans4377d ago

Well I wouldn't say either wins but still I'm looking forward to Oculus. Everybody will have a different winner this year and no website or poll can dictate which show was better based on there opinion.

Geoff9004377d ago

You can't really 'win' E3, you can have a bad E3 and a good E3 but you don't win E3.

Gamer6664377d ago

If E3 2014 is about two games that might ship in fall 2015 then neither will win.

E3 2014 should be about games slated for 2014. Not 2015. Gamers deserve focus to be on the selection of games that they will have access to this year, not vaporware. Especially in a technology based industry where delays are rampant (Ex. last guardian, killzone 2, Alan wake, too human, drive club, watch dogs etc). Star gazing to 2015 or beyond is lame and shows that the consoles were shipped too early by at east 1-2 years.

Why don't they have enough content to fill E3 2014 with games of the same year? Gamers need to start holding console vendors accountable for shipping consoles too early and not having enough quality content to fill a 1.5 hour show.

Think about the gamers that bought a ps4 just for drive club last year. Or back in 2008 saw the demo of last guardian and bought a ps3 right after. The console vendors are screwing customers by talking about games that are in the future with no firm ship date. Think about it. If a content platform is selling you on content for 2015 what is your reason to buy the content platform this year? Why not wait Until 2015 when there might even be a price drop?

Sharky2314377d ago

The console industry has always been about teasing what's coming in the future. If we didn't have the teasers we wouldn't have anything to get excited for. I understand some of the frustration with the delays but I would rather have a delay than a game they fix as they go. Game devs are damned if they do damned if they don't. If they put a busted game out it hurts there rep and gamers blast them. If they delay a game for any reason gamers blast them. I just can't wait for e3 to see what's coming down the pipeline!

Halo art director leaves studio after 17 years with ominous message alluding to discontent

Glenn Israel writes: "As of today and after seventeen long years, I am officially no longer contributing to the Halo universe. There is little more I can say for the moment, though I intend to share this particular story in its entirety when it is absolutely safe to do so next year. In the meantime, I have a message for anyone and everyone who needs to hear it.

I know that the state of our industry seems dire, but never forget that you are *free to choose*. No illusion of security nor promise of wealth or fame or power is worth trading away your health, your dignity, your ethics or values - and no one can force you to. Stay strong, take evidence when necessary, and find where you belong."

My god.
There's a story for next year.

VenomUK231d ago

I’m really disappointed to learn there are still people/morale problems. I thought the whole point of rebranding 343i to Halo Studios was to signal that real changes had been made - not to cynically rebrand to paper over the problems.

I really hope the Halo CE remake is great and gets people hyped for the future of the series.

DarXyde230d ago

It's inevitable with the modern landscape. Even if some issues have been assuaged, new ones crop up all the time.

I'm willing to bet AI and the lack of regulation is causing substantial upset.

shinXseijuro231d ago (Edited 231d ago )

He said something very marking . We tend to complain a lot about the industry but deep down I realize that we never have we been offered this crazy amount of games all available for you to play now . You can literally play any sorts of games in 2025 . Nobody is forcing you to buy the latest COD or the latest BF . You’re more of a 8 bit cozy gaming guy there’s a whole niche of modern games for that . You like micromanaging there’s games for that . I feel like we have been spoiled so much we just stopped being realistic and thinking for ourselves . We follow trends cry about stuff online when you are the buyer you have the power .

Notellin231d ago

I'm not buying any games until another Immersive sim is made.

Halo 4 & Halo 5: Guardians Sales Reached Nearly 10 Million Units Worldwide

Lifetime sales of 343 Industries' first-person shooters, Halo 4 and Halo 5: Guardians, reached nearly 10 million units worldwide each.

There were reports that Halo 4 and Halo 5 had similar sales to Halo: Reach years ago. The clickbait websites and rage bait YouTubers from 2012-2016 just wanted to spread excessive negativity about the franchise for their own benefit.

VenomUK320d ago

What did Halo: Infinite sell?

Sciurus_vulgaris320d ago

I don’t know. However, I would assume around 10 million. All the Halo FPS titles have done around 10 million sales, except ODST. Halo 3, was reported to exceed 14 million copies. I still remember back in 2007-2008, Halo 3 and COD 4 would duke it out for the most played XBL game.

MrNinosan320d ago

@Sciurus

There is NO WAY Infinite sold 10 million. Wake up dude.
Once upon a time, there was gamers on the Xbox side who actually bought games. Those times are since long gone.

Infinite has most likely not even hit 5 million sales

slate91321d ago

Nearly 10 million units and killing the brand is crazy work. Nicely done.

peppeaccardo320d ago

This New: Putting chocolate chips on top of a freshly made dog turd .....

So let me get this straight in almost 13 years both games sold a combined 10 millions units.
Now I’m not going to use the obscured mentality and compared it to the amount of consoles sold and say it’s a failure 🤷🏿

thesoftware730320d ago (Edited 320d ago )

1Victor,

Halo 4 and Halo 5: Guardians, reached nearly 10 million units worldwide "each."

Read it again, there is a word in there that clears up your misunderstanding.

1Victor320d ago

@thesoftware720
I apologize I skimmed through the article and the headline blinded me and stuck in my mind thank you for the correction 👍👍

AuraAbjure320d ago (Edited 320d ago )

Halo 4 is the best multiplayer ever! It’s even better than Titanfall 2. I admit Halo 4 got CoDified but there’s nothing wrong with taking inspiration from other games sometimes and halo 4 did it sooooo well with that speed boost plus sword combo and SAW plus damage booth combo, holy guacamole 🥑

Some crucial improvements to halo 4 could’ve been to boost the power of the AA sentinel, and whenever matchmaking pits people against each other with an armor abilities turned off completely then the map needs to routinely spawn, plentiful, predictable, power weapons. Also, all frame rate drops are unacceptable for a halo game during split-split screen or couch co-op. Just dynamically scale the resolution of the game down but whatever happens don’t let the framer dip in a Halo game for the love of all that is holy and good!

My personal gameplay of getting 30 kills in a 4 v. 4 game of team slayer up to 60.

Halo 5 dev recalls the “frustrating” marketing that misrepresented the series’ most-hated entry

Halo 5: Guardians lead concept artist Darren Bacon explains that the game's marketing was completely seperate to the game's development.

videogamer.com
FortWaba401d ago (Edited 401d ago )

No issue with the marketing. The story was complete garbage.

-Foxtrot401d ago

The marketing wasn't the issue, it just felt 343 were so bothered about getting Halo away from being known as a Bungie franchise that they tried to introduce so many changes to counter this.

It felt like they were trying to replace Chief as a character thus the big push on Agent Locke (he even got his own mini series). Chief was even in less missions in comparison.

Introduced squads which forced single player gamers to be paired up with 3 AI players over drop in / drop out co-op.

Cortana was butchered, ruining that relationship between Chief and Cortana we all liked. Would have been fine if the twist was the Didact was secretly controlling her or something but nothing. Did she come back in Infinite? Nope. Killed off screen in a sudden 180 to her villainous turn and replaced by a copy since they knew they screwed up.

Expected you to have read all the novels and the like to understand who Blue Team were and their relationship to Chief, had no build up to the characters and it felt like they expected you to like them without it being earned.

Everything they did felt like change for the sake of change, to mark it was a 343 game not a Bungie one and it's hilarious as they tried to f*** around with the multiplayer in Halo 4 to make it their own before reverting things in Guardians.

darthv72401d ago

I didnt mind the switching off between John and Locke... it reminded me of Halo 2 and having the Arbiter levels to trade off to.

The story was okay for me. They had to do something different as the first three games were done and there needed to be new story going in a new direction. I get the die hard fans may not have liked it, but playing it for what it is... its perfectly fine. Its a continuation of halo 4, which itself was a nice original take on the formula.

Now bring on the disagrees.

cl1983401d ago

It reminded me of Halo 2 and I honestly dislike the switching in 2 and 5. The devs should of just had cuts scenes for the Arbiter and for Locke.

Elit3Nick401d ago

Booting the ur-Didact from the games was one of the greatest narrative mistakes they made (after bringing back a logic-plagued Cortana, of course). Even if you had to read the Forerunner novels to understand his history, he was one of the most complex characters in the series, and he should have remained as an enduring part of the universe.

I'm happy that he at least got a send-off in Halo: Epitaph, but it shouldn't have gotten to that point.

XiNatsuDragnel401d ago

No issues it's just wasn't good story at least my friend it wasn't well written.

Tacoboto401d ago

Yeah it says a lot about the management of 343 at the time that they could have a marketing campaign be so disconnected in tone and story from the game it's supposed to be about.

I'd imagine it would be frustrating for the developers that the marketing beats seemed far cooler than what you were stuck making. Maybe it would've been better if 343 just continued the story from their previous game but nooo they couldn't be bothered to do that even once

entra80401d ago

its the worst halo game the story the map all was garbage

cl1983401d ago

I'd like to introduce you to Halo infinite.

coolbeans400d ago

You are off your damn rocker if you think Infinite's story is worse than 5's. Just by cleaning up 5's worse elements off-screen makes it a default improvement.

PhillyDonJawn400d ago (Edited 400d ago )

Campaign wise Halo infinite was better due to setting. (Open world, different approaches, setting and mission tasks)

story wise Halo 5 was better. Infinite was literally all over the place. It's like they scrapped the OG story and tried to piece some sht together. They unalived important ppl off screen!!! (Spoiler free) Ruining the main plot of Halo 5 and infinite like wth!!! That alone made the "story" worse than 5. They have to reboot the series now or pull some story where these characters are still alive. (I believe the end reveals 1 is.)

@Beans i disagree with that last statement doing it off screen when that was the main plot and a huge deal is the wrong move. We legit should've got a boss battle that did that. It seem so unsatisfying and anticlimactic. We were suppose to get an IRobot/terminator type of ending and instead we get some off screen sht 😒 We couldve had Halo 4 level emotion, instead it was done as filler

cl1983400d ago (Edited 400d ago )

@Coolbeans and @phillydonjawn

Infinites story was so disjointed due to the level design. It wasn't and in my opinion still not replay able. It felt worse then the ending to Starfield.

I'm saying this as a person who's still going through playing the MCC to finish out playlists, and has Ten's of Thousands of hours in Halo since CE.

Tacoboto400d ago

The literal ending to Starfield or the closing missions? Because some of those missions were actually pretty great in my opinion. Especially Entangled.

Halo 5 had a worse story I felt than Infinite but I agree on its lack of replayability. The single PNW biome is tiring and everything not green and foresty outside is metallic and reflective inside.

Multiplayer is solid but lags behind 5 too I feel. At least it still does get some new content even as they're openly abandoning Infinite's tech for UE.

Notellin321d ago

Halo Infinite and Halo 5 both had equally bad stories that completely ignored the previous entry. There's nothing to redeem from either game. The best thing for Halo is to do reboot, let that fail, and then end the series forever.
