Another E3, another possibility for an Agent reveal

Agent was announced in July 2007 for PlayStation 3 and we haven’t really heard much on it since then. Other than popping up on resumes and trademark filings, news on the game runs from being scarce to nothing whatsoever.
Cue a May 2014 trademark renewal from Take-Two. Indeed, it is standard industry practice to renew trademarks, so this isn’t groundbreaking news. But it still provides a bit of hope as it were.

I am not expecting Agent to ever turn up

MasterCornholio4379d ago

The ultimate infiltrator.

What I dont understand is why Rockstar renewed the trademark for this game. You can even see this title on their website. I would prefer for them to announce a cancelation then to keep this title in a never ending limbo.

TomShoe4379d ago

They probably kept the trademark because they don't want to lose it to another company. Trademarks are still valuable, even for non-existent games :)

I agree with you though, I'd rather they just announce that it's dead rather than keep us on the hook for nothing. At least we know that The Last Guardian is being worked on, and Yu Suzuki is interested in making Shenmue III. As for Agent, nothing but a licence plate in GTA V ever hints at it.

If it was dead, they would announce it as such. R* is a company that puts a lot of work into their games. I have no problem with them taking 8-10 years on a game, if once they announce/reveal it, it meets expectations. Which, judging by R*'s track record, I'm sure it will.

Rockstar never shows anything at E3. They will do it themselves on their own time, usually the most random times.

porkChop4379d ago

It was listed on LinkedIn as starting active development in 2012, which is when they'd be starting work on next gen projects. The game was likely too ambitious for PS3 so they could have shelved it til next gen came around.

More like another wasted opportunity.

It's about the Cold War right?

Wouldn't NOW be a perfect time to release or even announce this game, with all that is going on in Russia & Ukraine right now?

"Agent was announced in July 2007 for PlayStation 3"

First reveal was in E3 2009, i think :/

What the hell ever happened to the next Getaway game that they had high hopes for BEFORE the PS3 even came out lol. At least we know Guardian still lives.

heisenberguk4379d ago

Sony canned it to focus on Eyetoy games instead!! Go figure!!

DigitalRaptor4379d ago

Well we know London Studio have been seeking a vehicle and environment artist for a new game: http://www.vg247.com/2014/0...

And high quality 3D environments. http://www.dualshockers.com...

Sounds like a new Getaway game to me.

GdaTyler4379d ago

Plot twist. Agent for 3DS.

MasterCornholio4379d ago

This Agent has been undercover for a really long time now.

I wonder if we have to trade someone for him to get him back?

LightDiego4379d ago

Rockstar will confirm that Agent actually is L.A. Noire from 2012.
The waiting is over.

Edi0074379d ago

hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

mark3214uk4379d ago

Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser explains why open world spy game Agent never worked out

A rare interview from the former GTA and Red Dead Redemption writer and executive producer.

dveio201d ago

Interesting to know.

Among MGS4, Agent was the reason I wanted and bought a PS3. (Who knew we would get other gems like Killzone 2 and TLoU.)

I always assumed it got cancelled due to hardware restrictions even at that time.

Deeeeznuuuts200d ago

Such a shame, I remember first reading about it in official playstation magazine, Agent and The Getaway are the two cancelled games I wish I could play 😩

Christopher200d ago

Because it had to be open world, of course. Couldn't change that and make the Agent game work otherwise. Totally buying it.

Redgrave199d ago

I used to laugh whenever I'd see someone cite Agent as a game to look forward to, because it was never officially canceled (at least, as far as I've seen.)

"It's still real to me, dammit!"

Cancelled Games That Still Upsetti My Spaghetti

As a wise man once said: what be will, be will, and sometimes games just get canceled, whether it’s due to publisher meddling, a lack of funds or the creative vision simply not panning out.

Eight Days for me

Really would have enjoyed a buddy cop game with a Lethal Weapon like tone.

helicoptergirl494d ago

The only one that really bothered me was when Sony wouldn't fund Days Gone 2. That announcement made me literally feel nauseous. I felt sick in the guts. That's the first time Sony had done something that actually physically hurt me lol. I'm still bummed that there won't be a Days Gone 2.

lucasnooker444d ago

I would have loved the getaway 3! The original is still one of my favourite PS2 titles
