Watch Dogs E3 2012 Demo Vs. Final Retail Version (Same Area)

Here's a comparison of the same area in Watch Dogs that was shown back at E3 2012 to the final version of the game.

Wasn't this the site saying that the streets are lifeless? I'm seeing hella life in that video, hmmm.

Nitrowolf24372d ago (Edited 4372d ago )

I've watched plenty of videos, I think it's just one of those issues that just happens like in any open world game. First moment you are walking in a swarm of people, and the second you are wondering where is everyone and why are there no vehicle around when you need one. It's a common complaint on Ubiboards actually when I read the boards and such.

It gets more crazy with traffic though. I've seen cars lined up, bumper to bumper and such in the game. Looks great

seanpitt234372d ago (Edited 4372d ago )

Way to many articles on this now. We all know it's been downgraded and don't get me started with the physics. Lets just look forward.

donman14371d ago (Edited 4371d ago )

Yeah... the graphical down grade is quiet obvious. I have no idea why some developers like to set the wrong graphical fidelity expectations knowing they cannot reach it. I am sure the game itself is good but the graphics/physics down grade is obvious.

This is not even an issue of whether the visual quality was downgraded because of trying to get party with the XboxOne and PS4 version. Even the PC version is not on the level of the E3 demo. The developer just promised a lie they damn well knew was not possible with the final build.

user14394144372d ago

There is no issues with the STREETS in the PS4 version I think they may be referring to the XBONE version. :)

MorePowerOfGreen4372d ago (Edited 4372d ago )

It's the PC, Obviously not the PS4 version because there is good contrast and not blurry with dark film over the screen.

On a serious note who knows what the devs have done. Population could have been turned down to get it to run better, or it was over populated to sell the game during E3 and was never representative of the game. *Or* the routines of the AI/NPCs are much more sophisticated than we thought and have truer to life activity(strict to the hour/minute nighttime algorithms and even days of the week)

GTA5 loaded NPCs strictly, where I've seen them "pop in" at a certain time at night.

Farmassy4371d ago

Hahahaha

MrTehDiNGO is ridiculous. One look at his comment history and you know he is one of the biggest PS fanboys. You dis the xbox more than you praise the playstation.

You act like the xbox version doesn't have people on the street? Your pathetic man

starchild4372d ago

There's a lot of life in the game. Everywhere I walk in the city there are tons of pedestrians and traffic.

"Graphically speaking though, weren’t for the difference in lighting, they appear near identical"

I agree with them on that point. The main difference in their comparison is simply the time of day and the weather conditions. The game DOES have very nice rainy, foggy conditions, but it does look slightly different than in that 2012 demo (at least from what I have seen so far). Other than the difference in the fog and DOF effect used, under similar weather conditions that part of the game would look 95% the same.

GarrusVakarian4372d ago (Edited 4372d ago )

Agreed on the life of the city. The suburban areas especially. Tons of traffic, tons of pedestrians all doing different things.

Just now i went back to my apartment in-game and saw a dude shouting up to his wife or girlfriend, whilst she was throwing his clothes down at him from her balcony, he then walked off in a huff, and she remained on the balcony cursing him and saying things like "i knew my sister was right about him". Little touches like that happen all the time around the city, they really help make it feel believable and full of life.

In terms of the graphics, sure, it doesn't look exactly like the E3 build, but it's still a pretty good looking game. Especially when it's sunny, and when it's raining at night.

ThroatPunch4372d ago (Edited 4372d ago )

Lifeless? I've been playing the PC version (yes I am a bad boy, but I've already preordered and wanted to get a taste) and there is a sea of people roaming the streets, and the mass panic and reactions when I start randomly sniping innocents is great. It feels more lifelike than GTA5, but that may be due to the immersion of witnessing people call 911 and listening to their desperation.

Muffins12234371d ago

The way you said bad boy disturbed me and makes me question your sexuality

Irishguy954371d ago

He's just a paranoid gamer man!

Any reports on quality of the game anyone? Live up to hype? Is it fun at least?

OculusRift4371d ago

"Hella'? What the hell is a "hella" or what does that stupid word mean?

optimus4371d ago

I live in l.a. and people use that word all the time, especially the young crowd. It tends to mean "very" of something. "hella good", "hella fast"...i'm originally from boston and find it hella stupid. ;p...

As for the game, i think it's ok the way they left it...if people want crowded streets then they should go play assassins creed games if they like constantly bumping into people, which was a part of THAT game...this game plays heavily on staying AWAY from people.

Lucreto4372d ago (Edited 4372d ago )

People are still talking about this.

2012 was a PC build before the final spec of next gen consoles were finalised. They worked to the spec without much point of reference. Don't forget they didn't know about the GDDR5 RAM or how much of it they will get or how much they will be able to use until February 2013.

starchild4372d ago

Exactly. They had no way to know what the new consoles would even be able to do.

In any case, the game looks pretty much the same anyway. People are WAY overexaggerating the differences. The fog isn't as dense and the DOF effect isn't as strong in the final game. That's about the only difference I see between the game I am playing and the 2012 demo.

memots4371d ago

"People are WAY overexaggerating the differences."

People have been doing this a lot since 2007, " dat sliver of grass is missing" , remember mafia 2 ? A game was declared the better version over the lamest stuff.
This is just a side effect of this new obsession, also it's human nature to compare and classify everything.

Th4Freak4372d ago (Edited 4372d ago )

And why is it that the retail PC version doesn't look anything like the E3 2012 footage even on ultra-high settings?

That argument makes no sense at all.

Ubisoft showed fake footage to hype people, period.

hazard17remedy4372d ago

Played on PC, on Ultra and here's what i say: It looks good. GOOD, but not even CLOSE to that E3 demo. The graphics isn't from "another world" and don't have set the bar on nothing.

Watch Dogs Deserves A Remake, More Than Ever

With the world of information and technology, privacy and security growing every day, Watch Dogs deserves another chance in the spotlight, now more than ever.

RaidenBlack1751d ago

The only Ubi title that deserves a faithful remake right now is Splinter Cell 1.
All 2014+ Ubi titles are just underwhelming. Especially ones from 2016+ are just cancer.

LucasRuinedChildhood1751d ago (Edited 1751d ago )

Seriously, are we so far removed from Ubisoft actually making good games that people now praise Watch_Dogs in retrospect?

"Watch_Dogs has remained one of my favourite games of the last ten years." Jesus Christ.

HankHill1751d ago

I remember being so disappointed in Watch Dogs when I played it at release. It was alright, but I think I fell for the hype and I needed a game to play on my new PS4.

obidanshinobi1751d ago

This is what happens when mediocrity gets praised as good.
Standards are slipping across the whole entertainment industry.
What was once considering rubbish is now considered as OK, what once was OK is now being praised as good etc etc.

LamerTamer1750d ago

Everyone has their own likes. I liked it a lot myself. I played through it twice and liked the car chases and the open world with fairly decent environments and missions. It suffered from the whole downgrade thing where they showed graphics that weren't actually there. No game will appeal to everyone but it was still ambitious for it's time.

gantarat1751d ago

assassin's creed 1 should get a remake.

ExBee1751d ago

For certain! AC1 was brilliant at the time but with new graphics and gameplay it would be amazing! Do you prefer old combat or new though?

RaidenBlack1751d ago

I'd say a reimagining of AC1.
I direct AC1 remake would be a bad idea. It'll need better story pacing and significant better world building.

BlaqMagiq11750d ago

Old. Let it play like how it did with AC2-Syndicate style gameplay but refine the setting and story.

Profchaos1751d ago

It would need a lot changed for it to be enjoyable again as even back in 2007 on launch we were all complaining about it's repetitive gameplay go here perform one of three side quests repeat then assassination now do it over and over until a big battle with a unforgiving checkpoint system.

BlaqMagiq11750d ago

Absolutely. It needs it. The only AC I truly didn't enjoy.

chicken_in_the_corn1750d ago

I'd prefer it didn't. Ubisoft would make it so bloated, it wouldn't be anywhere near the original

smolinsk1751d ago (Edited 1751d ago )

Absolutely, this watch dogs legion was terrible boring.

Profchaos1751d ago (Edited 1751d ago )

As a fan of the franchise legion was garbage and I regretted my purchase for the first time in the franchise the entire thing felt like an experiment in NPC behaviour and released without the writers input on what makes a good story.

I don't think I'm alone in that feeling though as wrench and Aiden are brought back and the campaign was rewritten to fit them.

I am tempted to buy the season pass to play it again with Aiden but fool me twice shame on me I'm waiting for a deep sale

camel_toad1751d ago

Agreed. Despite the annoying hipness of the characters in part 2 I thought it was a really fun game. I was extremely disappointed and surprised at how many steps back they took with Legion. You'd think it was made by an entirely different team. Or was it?

It was just so devoid of fun.

LamerTamer1750d ago

Honestly one of my biggest annoyances with Legion is that they took out the camera views for the driving. I mean the behind the car view that they stuck us with is near unplayable. I always used a first person driving view. After two releases why did they take OUT features? I don't get it.

TheSinsibleOne1751d ago

The fist watchdog game was the best by far
After that they weren't weird and annoying with that hipster stuff. Aiden was a badass.

LamerTamer1750d ago

I thought so at first too. I got used to it and it ended up being good after some play time. I just had to give it a chance.

TheEnigma3131751d ago

Remake the PoP series from xbox/ps2/gc era

RaidenBlack1751d ago

They are remaking Sands of Time.

TheEnigma3131751d ago

That's good news. Hopefully it's done right.

Inside the Driver game that died so that Watch Dogs could live

From VG247: "When cars slide, they leave tyre marks. In a game like Driver, they’re an aesthetic touch, part of the inherent cool of a handbrake turn. But those dark shadows in the road also tell a story. From tyre marks, you can determine the speed of a vehicle, when it started to skid, and its ultimate direction of travel – long after the car itself has vanished into the distance."

vallencer1816d ago

Different spellings in different parts of the world friend. Tyre is a correct way to spell it.

Pridefall1815d ago

Dunno why you got downvpted when tyre is correct in Australia.

neutralgamer19921816d ago

Give us driver San Francisco remastered

IGiveHugs2NakedWomen1816d ago

Why did they stop making some of the best games ever? Driver was one of them.

Gameseeker_Frampt1815d ago

Assassins Creed 2 showed Ubisoft how to make money and Far Cry 2 showed them that gamers don't like complex ideas. Now Ubisoft just turns out games that are just variations of the same thing.

WeAreLegion1816d ago

Best driving mechanics ever made. Nothing has come close.

Gardenia1816d ago

A story driven game with pure driving gameplay. I'd love to see a new Driver game or a remake of the first one.

ApocalypseShadow1815d ago

Yes. This one. A definite remake of the first without adding any ridiculous fluff. The first game had great physics and sound for its time. The start of the car in the beginning cinema I watched constantly. My father and uncles were big muscle and classic car freaks. Only thing crazy about the game was the relentless cops in the last level. Insane the way those police cars were and launched at you.

Bleemcast made it look better just like PC emulators. But would definitely take a remake.
