not suprised at all if a company sees a good idea theyll try to capatalize on that trying to tap into that wii market

Not the best decision on Sony's part, it'll be seen as copying the Wii (like the rumoured 360's Newton). I'd rather see a development on the current standard PS3 controllers, though this does mean buying another controller all over again :<

Both M$ and Sony bring out remote devices and then all they would have to do is create better remote games then Nintendo offers, as the majority of Wii games are refered to as shovelware. Then in no time the Wii would loose all its remaining fanbase (casual gamers), except for the older people who only like Wii sports. Then all the Wii could do to combat having nothing unique other then Mario games is introduce a HDD or finally allow games to be read of an SD Card, and try to keep selling Wii's for as long as possible.

Makes total sense introduce remotes and eliminate Nintendo.
Apart from the rare Mario game released there is really no other proffitable game franchise for Nintendo to keep them a-float, with 3rd party games selling poorly(and being referred to as shovelware).

well it looks like both sony and microsoft are attempted to get rid of the wii with these "gimmicks", thats my opinion.

Yes it is the new transformer controller. The PS r3mote transforms into a vibrator helping gamers and geeks alike to score more girl friends at the comfort of their couch.

Wasn't the 'wiimote' concept something that all the companies knew about for years, yet Sony and MS decided that because of the price of their consoles and the hardcore being the main ones to buy their consoles first, they were not going to try and push the remote idea onto their fanbase at the beginning, because they felt confident they could do so. They would use remotes later to pick up casuals who are purchasing their price dropping system while the hardcore aren't buying the Wii, and the Wii then gets phased out.

It was no secret that Nintendo was going to do this years ago and that the other companys had/have a strategy of using this later. Nintendo needed to do this right away to look relevant and revive their name amgonst older and newer gamers. MS and Sony's already pricey systems, could not afford the adding on of this as core gameplay device, which as I said, they didn't want to force this upon a hardcore gaming audience that is using many nessecary button commands on a controller for HARDCORE gaming.

The X-motes and PS-motes are coming. I wouldn't mind the addition. But I would have never bought a PS3 because of 'mote' to begin with, just like I'm not buying the Wii for one.

I hope they don't abandon the ps eye, I think it has great potential. I just want to see a game with impressive graphics use it though.

I didn't like Microsoft copying the Wii-mote, and I certainly don't like Sony doing it either. I totally believe Sev obviously, but it just doesn't seem right. Plus it would create a split in the software built for the system.

If this is released, it would need to come with every PS3 to make a difference. Otherwise, pack-in with PS4 AS WELL AS Dualshock 4. No compromise, Sony. I want real controls for my complex games.

What about the SIXAXIS? If that's supposed to be motion sensing, then is it not a bit stupid to buy another set of things which communicate solely through motion sensing?! Surely some games can be released which use the SIXAXIS like the Wiimote or that is possibly the worst design choice known to man.

In addition, more use needs to be made of the PSEye. They should release compressed versions of Eyetoy play etc. on the PSN for low prices. Christ, the ideas I'd come up with if I were head honcho for PSN and not that black woman who's never played a game in her life haha.

If both Sony and MS jump on this bandwagon then props to Wii for using its mass appeal to force its competitors to plagiarise its features.

Hmmmm don't really like this idea.

Ok Sony's getting desperate to make it back in first place. They copied nintendo's only thing that made them stand out of the compotion and inproved on it. I now have even more less respect for Sony. Now I really hope Nintendo and Microsoft keeps Sony in 3rd place. Sorry If i sound like a Sony hater but I just hate when companies try and copy something because they are losing and try and make it there own technology.

if this is true this is one thing I was hoping 360 and ps3 would do. The wii is fun at first but the games nintendo have are too childish and fail to deliever a lasting appeal for me. Im expecting this to sell like hot cakes especially to those people who actually want to play a real golf or baseball game. (those games on wii just fail in every which way for golf or baseball to feel realistic for me and yes I was expecting that when I purchased the wii)

The question remains if these remotes are true is if developers would be willing to spend the time to include it in the games.

I say use the PlayStation Eye with the PlayStation 3 Sony Blu-ray Remote and have up to 4 remotes at once. There problem solved plus it will get people to buy extra Sony products.

Leave the Wii to do its thing. They should be cranking out PSEye tech. Imagine if they let the cell processor loose to run a PSEye game, where you could have ful functionality of a Wiimote, in both hands, with, head tracking, and feet tracking. You could have a 3D fighting game where you could battle people online like you are actually fighting them. Something like that, not this remote band-wagon.

Its not the controller that helps the wii sells $hitloads its the price and then the controller...

Could these PS3motes just be early prototypes for some sort of wireless Buzz controller with a few bells and whistles? Just a thought.

I personally think this sort of product would be a mistake, it would smack of cashing in and stealing ideas. The PS3 like the PS2 will be at its best when it is trying new ideas rather than being a copy cat. Eye Toy, Buzz and Singstar are the high achievements of the SCE era and all were new and unique, try some new ideas on the PS3 rather than making a power hungry Wii!

BTW I saw Kaz in a bathroom at In N Out Burger the other day, and he told me that there's a special switch inside the PS3 that they are enabling in the 2.4 firmware that will make the graphics 10x better than they already are. The remote would be a day one purchase. Still would like to hear some more info on it...E3 maybe? Also, it would be prudent to release this accessory soon and included with all new PS3. That way, the inclusion of the controller is seen as part of gameplay rather than a simple gimmick. M-soft and Sony should just come out and say that they're making Wii-mote clones. They should also triple check the patents:-p

So Nintendo changes the face of the gaming industry again, and yet no one gives them any credit. I wonder if the wiimote will influence gaming as much as the NES and SNES controllers did? this good news for ps3 owner of course. But when rumours were flying around that xbox 360 was getting a motion sensing controller, people were saying that microsoft had lost the battle for the hardcore demographic. why is it different when sony decides to launche one?

I remember not too long ago, when the "Newton" or XBox 360's version of the WiiMote was announced, a majority of people bashed Microsoft for "copying" Nintendo and doubting its success before seeing its capabilities, let alone, its official annoucement. Now the PS3 has a "secret" WiiMote-like controller and everyone is giving high hopes to this new product. It's not that I doubt Sony (I only have owned Sony consoles, PS1, 2, & 3) its just how bias people are on this site. Why does the PSMote have a greater chance in succeeding than the 360Mote?

Nintendo's running cheaper hardware system, but you don't have to sacrifice quality of game. You can run excellent games on small hardware, and still be successful. Nintendo isn't, or hasn't employed this technique yet (except for the titles that are produced by Nintendo itself, that come along once in a while, which are excellent.) They haven't seem to have taken full advantage of motion sensing controller yet.

If PS3 can make a better motion sensing experience, with better games, hell, I'll bite.

My problem with the Wiimote is that Nintendo make it standard. So you have each and every game designed to use this... Which couldn't be more wrong, many games just feel better on the gamepad.

By Sony having the sixaxis/dual shock 3 as standard, they would only make some games of some genres aiming that wiimote gameplay. That variety we have today would not be sacrificed for pushing a new controller, like Wii did (nothing really wrong pushing new things, XB and X360 pushed online game on consoles, PS3 pushed BD and feature whores - ok, I'm horrible).

Maintaining the variety, the quality of the games, the quality of the hardware (possibility of better graphics, better phisics, better AI, etc), now with a popular controller, it could make PS3, already better value than Wii in my opnion, start to shine on Wii's own playgroung.

Since PS2 had a pretty big casual base, which is not the case on for example 360, where a wiimote-esque controller would not help so much. But PS3, even with some advantage, will have to fight Wii in some ground not so easy to take from as old-technology console like Wii: the price.

But to be honest, I can't care less with this controller... I'll probably give it a try, like with the Eye, but I really prefer gamepads. The probable only continuous user it will have here is my sister (not a kid anyway, she is 22 years old, a casual... She likes the Wiimote idea a lot more than me...).

Once again Nintendo bring out something innovative and everyone jumps on the bandwagon (d-pad, rumble, analogue etc)

And for people who say the Wii has no good games, Twilight Princess and Mario Galaxy were ranked above any PS3 game (gamerankings.com) before GTA4 came out. (I'm 50 per cent through it and fed up with the repetitive missions and am sure it will fall below Galaxy)

Don't get me wrong i have a PS3 and can't wait for MGS4 but they should stop copying and do their own thing.

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. Yoshida played a huge role in shaping the brand, so whatever the reason, his impact is undeniable.

If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. Andrew House and Jack Tretton did great work, but they also didn't try to fundamentally change the PlayStation DNA. Ryan oversaw the death of Japan Studio and a live service direction.

I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.
