Metal Gear Solid 4 LE PS3 Bundle Rarity Debated

Earlier this week, Konami.com launched the Metal Gear Solid 4 Limited Edition Playstation 3 Bundle for North Americans. Initially, Konami's web servers melted under the onslaught of clicks as gamers and eBay 'entrepreneurs' tried to get a hold of the limited bundle.

March forward to today (May 30th), and the Konami servers appear to be fully operational. In addition, the bundle has been available for pre-order most of the day without much trouble at all (as of 10:30 p.m. EST). Compared to the chaos from the previous days, and the fact that it has been relatively easy to order today, it didn't appear to some that the bundle was as rare as initially thought.

This is going to sell big on ebay

AlterEgo6565d ago

I think either:

a) they have plenty in stock

b) its not selling like they thought it would

because I put one in my shopping cart just for fun (to see if it'd work) and it went no problem...and this was a few days ago.

I hope this isn't a sign of sales for MGS4 :(

Even though it doesn't matter, I just wanna see this game do numbers.

morganfell6565d ago

it sold out in japan already. and i paid no tax on mine. nothing like having two ps3s in the house.

jackdoe6565d ago

There is no doubt that it is rare. However, most U.S. gamers are probably holding out for the 80gb MGS4 pack as it is cheaper.

Seraphim6565d ago

@ $600 it'll even leave the hardest of die hard MGS fans sitting on the couch. America isn't keen on special edition consoles, especially when they come at a premium price. Give them some trivial content and call a Special/Limited Edition game and you're sold. But consoles, not so much. As much as I'd like to order one I already have a 60 GB PS3 [w/ 180 GB hd]. Plus if I did buy it this would be one item I wouldn't want to open anyway...

Now as far as the price is concerned. You're essentially only paying an extra $100 for a Limited Edition MGS4 console. That is in fact actually Limited @ under 10k. 40 GB for $400, MGS4 LE for $85+ tax and possibly shipping so $600 is actually a pretty fair price; although steep nonetheless. Maybe that's just too much? Or maybe it's just that because Konami is only offering <10k and only through them you have to consider that a vast majority of people interested probably aren't even aware of this MGS4 LE PS3...

BilI Gates6565d ago

Oh man. I think I'm gonna buy 3 of them and sell two on ebay later on.

97% on Metacritic, guys. http://www.metacritic.com/g...

Spread the word. It's close to beating GTA IV even with Eurogamer's biased review.

Can't wait.

Snukadaman6565d ago

so the bundle got 97%...thats pretty high huh.

Xakep6565d ago

Your Nasim radar is off kid, that's not him, LenHart is.

Snukadaman6562d ago

but for someone who barely has 600 points..how can you not spot nasim aka mavrick aka tanod aka lenhart aka various other aliases. I was here when he was originally nasim and not the one bubble mess that nickname is.

Xakep6562d ago (Edited 6562d ago )

Who said I wasn't around then, and that I don't know who Bill Gates actually is? Anyone who can easily spot Nasim knows how to do so because for some reason he never changes his posting style.

crck6565d ago

by $110 then throw in tax and shipping. It comes out to $180 more for me then it would cost to just buy a 40 gb from Amazon since tax and shipping is free.

jackdoe6565d ago (Edited 6565d ago )

This also happens when they charge $500 insurance. Even if it is temporary and refundable, they still charge you for it once you order the bundle, raising the grand total to $1000 at the onset. Not exactly appealing, even to the most diehard MGS fan.

crck6565d ago

and they have removed it. So they aren't charging people that any more.

jackdoe6565d ago

Really. Then just the overcharging then.

Millah6565d ago

OK ummm I ordered one, and you all are way overexaggerating "shipping and tax" prices. My total price for the order came to 620.00 There was no tax and shipping was about 20 dollars for ground shipping, so its not that bad. Luckily I have the extra money right now, so I am buying it for collectings sake, can't hurt to have an extra Ps3 laying around the house huh :)

crck6565d ago

Konami is based in Cali. Its 8.75% tax here so on $600 thats $50.

Just because it was easy to pre-order the bundle, it doesn't mean that it wasn't as rare as previously thought, it just means that Konami has gotten there act together and has stepped up there servers for high traffic. On the Japanese Konami store, they sold out of the Limited Edition 40GB PS3 MGS4 bundles within a few days, but I think that it's safe to say that Konami has provided the U.S. with more bundles than Japan most likely due to the fact that the Gaming market is larger in the U.S..... the only thing I would like right now is those MGS4 Bluetooth Headphones ( not the Bluetooth Headset), but they are only avaliable in Japan.

If I had the extra cash I would get the Limited Edition 40GB MGS4 bundle.... I wouldn't even use that PS3 if I got it, I would just put it in a glass case and add it to my Playstation console collection.

Konami Delists Some Metal Gear Games From Digital Stores Without Warning

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker HD have been delisted from digital stores without warning.

cloganart92d ago

I mean, it makes sense. With Vol.2 coming and all that

Commentby92d ago

Stupid headline. Should state that they are being updated or discontinued. This makes the crazy people that only read headlines think it some kind of conspiracy to take away peoples already purchased games.

jjb198192d ago

If you want to all of a sudden own them now and haven't played them yet because a remastered is coming out, shame on you. I can't believe people are complaining about this 15 years later when it was bound to happen anyway. "A new remaster is out, quick, I'd better buy the original from the shop."

gigoran891d ago

Gamers: "Physical? who needs physical? everyone knows that digital online games are the future. stop living in the past. we don't need no stinking disc drive"

Same gamers: "How dare the delist a digital game that I own!!!!"

computeSci91d ago (Edited 91d ago )

And? What is your point?

Same gamers: "How dare the retailers to delist (quit selling) a physical game that I own!!!!"

I think you just read the headline and don't know how dilisting works with Sony. It's common knowledge that:

"Players who already bought the games will still have them in their library and can download and play them as usual."

So again, what is your point?

PlayStation 3 Games That Desperately Need a PS5 Remaster

The PlayStation 3 may not have been the strongest generation for Sony, but there were still some diamonds in the rough that deserve a revisit as PS5 remasters.

Even if they could just remaster and put on PSVR2, some would still look great as VR titles and could do a whole lot to bolster the headset w these exclusives! I'd imagine the investment of reworking these titles into VR would be way less than building new games from the ground up, and they could be amazing experiences, and VR often makes flat games feel fresh again. The Resistance and Killzone games are particularly what I want to see!!

Rude-ro804d ago

I played killzone 3 in 3d and it really changed the game per being immersive.
In vr, that would be even more awesome.

darthv72804d ago

Funny you mention that... my son wanted to play some PS3 games in 3d on my PS tv and he was blown away by how good KZ3 was. It really was a great addition to the game. Im surprised there have not been more 3d games from that era being ported to the PSVR/VR2.

_SilverHawk_804d ago

resistance 1-3, killzone 1-3, uncharted 1-3, uncharted golden abyss, folklore, socom 4 , motorstorm, twisted metal, MAG, heavenly sword

Cacabunga804d ago

Killzone 2+3
Sly Thieves in Time
Crack in Time
God of War Ascension
Motorstorm
Modnation racer
Infamous 1+2

Profchaos804d ago (Edited 804d ago )

Killzone trilogy in VR would be amazing bonus points if they offer shadow fall.

There was a psvr1 Killzone project that supermassive was working on at one stage which wasn't up to scratch and Sony brand it back in house I was hoping we would see that on psvr2 eventually.

Personally I'd love to see some more love or acknowledgement of psvr2 from Sony in general it was a expensive headset and Sony barely acknowledge it's existence

seanpitt23804d ago

The amount of work needed to remaster these games wouldn't be beneficial on a financial and business sense.. MGS4 would probably be the best bet as it would need the least amount of work!

Iceball2000805d ago

YEAAASSSSS! I miss this franchise and wanna play it so bad again.

Father__Merrin805d ago

The time is perfect for a resistance fall of man game campaign coop multiplayer

InUrFoxHole805d ago

The resistance series is str8 trash to me. Socom 3 I would welcome. Or killzone MP.

Marcus Fenix805d ago

A Resistance reboot will be awesome

Michiel1989804d ago

That's what Bungie should make, Ill keep saying it until it happens

1Victor805d ago (Edited 805d ago )

Resistance was ok but Warhawk and Starhawk was better and kept me coming back for almost a decade of fun and petty revenge on the loud mouth unskilled players 🤣
Edit I loved capture the flag dropping the pot on the flag carrier was extremely satisfying as well as transforming your plane in bot form and stumping them to death 😱

805d ago
Michiel1989804d ago

Resistance was the best co-op fps I ever played after L4D2
