Is there cause for concern?...No.
Will Naughty Dog be one of the premier developers in the 8th generation?...YES! YES! YES!

Naughty Dog are amazing developers and they are great at what they do. They have been for years, ever since their Spyro and Crash Bandicoot days and everyone has seen what they accomplished on the PS3 hardware with Uncharted and The Last of Us, just wait and see what they do on the PS4!

majiebeast4393d ago (Edited 4393d ago )

Yeah. I don't get this, the exodus of ND developers from PS2 to PS3 was far more severe where Evan and Christoph both thought Naughty Dog might be done for.

After they shelved the Jak and Daxter game and made everyone work on Uncharted, they were getting letters of resignation daily.

Right now 4 people left. One that im glad is gone is Justin Richmond he messed up Uncharted 2multi player and Uncharted 3 badly.

pedrof934393d ago

Spyro was from insomniac right ?

majiebeast4393d ago

Yes Crash was from ND and Spyro from Insomniac.

HyperBear4393d ago (Edited 4393d ago )

Ahhh crap...I meant to say Jak & Daxter, not Spryo. I guess I was thinking about Insomniac and Naughty Dog at the same time, too many good games from back in the PS1/PS2 days.

Thanks @pedrof93 and @majiebeast for pointing that out...+bub :D

Thantalas4392d ago (Edited 4392d ago )

So Naughty Dog has had some high profile departures. But they've made some of the PS3's best loved games with engrossing storytelling, fun gameplay and amazing graphics. I reckon their first PS4 game will turn out okay! :)

Why o why4392d ago (Edited 4392d ago )

Naughty dog have the mannerism of an oak tree. Strong foundation, it will shed its leaves come autumn (fall for yall americans) but come spring, the new leaves emerge and come summer we have leaves that resemble tlou.

I'm still trying to figure out what "turmoil" this author is referring to.

If Jimmy Iovine steps down from Interscope, is it still the same Interscope record label? No, of course not.

That just shows you the importance of how even loosing 'one' leader can shift things.

I'm not saying they won't still be great, but we shouldn't be ignorant to expect changes when you loose lead developers. They were leading. New person will lead, with a new vision.

People say they were great back in the Spyro and Crash Bandicoot and even lost the people who made those games - i think that's the perfect example of change. Clearly, they aren't making games anything close to that childish anymore. Me personally, I never liked Spyro or Crash. But I love Uncharted and The Last of Us.

@Why o why

Yeah exactly, perfect example! I'm not saying they will be instantly terrible but we should not act like they will be 100% the same.

Why o why4392d ago (Edited 4392d ago )

Interesting. Ill even raise ya on that one man theory blaze in relation to Manchester United losing Sir Alex Ferguson. The wheels fell the fcuk off and they finished lower than they have in years despite being the league champions the prior year

Despite that, I doubt one or two people yeilded that much power at ND like sir alex did at utd. I'm sure ND will be fine.

GamerXD4392d ago

Stealth trolling at its best.

Look, ND lost these key people but that doesn't mean ND won't find good replacement for them. That's why lay-offs happen, just like Sony said, it's for improving the studio.

PS. Stop trolling bro, just stop and we'll be cool.

Blaze9294392d ago

@GamerXD

What does any of that have to do with trolling? What gain am I getting out of telling the truth?

"that doesn't mean ND won't find good replacement for them."

That's exactly what I'm saying. If you REPLACE someone, why do you think they will have 1:1 the same writing style and/or vision?

Like, you digging too deep into this bro. Nothing to do with trolling. I have no idea what's wrong with you sony die hards. At least @Why o why was reasonable with LOGIC.

It's truth, wtf that gotta do with trolling? You apply this to ANY industry and/or company, if someone leaves, they are taking their talent and what they offered WITH them, not leaving it "in spirit" for the next guy.

Salooh4392d ago

Why should we be worried and make conspiracy theories ? Even you said that they lost other people , they changed their vision and they still got better. Why would we expect the worst ?. What's the fuzz all about ?.

People need to get over this. We don't have enough information to judge. Naughty Dog are great , nothing indicate things getting worst. I for one always expect the same quality of their last game. That way i'm not disappointed. What ever we get will prove it self.

Salooh4392d ago

I read your comment again. If Uncharted 4 had changes and these changes were there to make the game better then i don't see why people should complain . Most of the people trust naught dog. They will accept whatever they do because of their history. Let them show these changes , if people reacted negatively then we can talk and question naughty dog ^^ ..

Dark114392d ago

Yeah when it comes to cinematic/movie games ND is a top developer..

AceBlazer134392d ago

No cause for concern. Media just hating on 1 of the best devs today.

I don't see how you can worry about a studio who's lowest rated game was a spin off combat racer. Other than that nothing but high 80s to 100.

Till they start putting out bad games, I could careless if a monkey was in charge over there. So long as their quality remains.

IRetrouk4392d ago

Ctr was brilliant though, was a playstation mario kart, I loved it.

Ausbo4392d ago

Why wouldn't they be. They lost like 3 or 4 people. This is a studio of 100s of people. They will be fine

Lol you wish naughty dog would go away. They are the very best at what they do and the crown jewel of the video game development industry

Kribwalker4392d ago

I could see them going the way of Rare if they don't stop the bleeding, that being said they are still great developers right now, they just need to be careful

Ex-Naughty Dog Dev: Big Studios Are 'Forced' to Hire Like Factories

Former Naughty Dog artist Gabriel Betancourt explains why the "sweet spot" for game teams is under 200 people and how AAA "factories" kill creativity.

There’s definitely some truth to this. When teams get too large, coordination starts to outweigh creativity—layers of approval, risk aversion, and tight deadlines can turn bold ideas into “safe” ones. Keeping a team under ~200 people sounds ideal for maintaining clear communication and a shared vision. That said, massive AAA projects also come with huge technical demands and expectations, so scaling up isn’t always avoidable. The real challenge is figuring out how to keep that small-team creativity alive inside big studio structures.

DarXyde35d ago

More than that, it's logistically untenable. Inevitably, when teams get too large, how do you keep tabs on accountability? I suspect this massive team size is a consequence of the perfectionism streak Naughty Dog has.

I wish we could have so many people working on something and it turns out great because I'm all for collaboration in spirit - the problem is too many people as part of the larger team and smaller units. Suppose for example that you have too many people in the art department; you will very often come up against fiercely competing visions for how things should look. That competitive vision will cause friction between team members, team doesn't work as a unit, the back and forth can further delay parts that the other departments are waiting for, etc etc.

A 200-person team says, to me, that we need to scale back game development. Even if it means we go back to PS2 era costs and scale, why not? Those games are still great fun, the budgets were in check, and you could literally break the 200-man team into like 10 20-man teams working on different projects.

Neil Druckmann Reveals He’s Working on an Unannounced Game at Naughty Dog

Neil Druckmann, the creative director of The Last of Us, is working on a new, unannounced game at Naughty Dog.

RaidenBlack371d ago

I know they've expertise in third person games.
But given the lack there of in PS catalog, I'd want the other project to be a narrative first person ND game.
Look, there are lots of 3rd person Sony games in variety of flavors. And ND is already doing intergalactic. And since they're pretty expert at gameplay and tech wise in whatever they do, they can easily venture a new genre and ship a first person game/shooter.

VenomUK371d ago

Hopefully the lead character is a boss babe who will challenge the patriarchy.

RaidenBlack371d ago

So, judging from the dislikes, hardcore Sony fans here don't like first person games, anymore?

arkard371d ago

Let naughty dog do what they are great at, 3rd person games

crazyCoconuts371d ago

I don't really have a big opinion on first vs third person perspective. That's one of the least important things to me when rating how much I like a game

Flewid638370d ago

Sounds horrible. The downvotes are right on this one.

badz149370d ago

I actually hate 1st person. very hard to associate with a character you only see their hands most of the time.

OtterX371d ago

funny thing is with failures like Concord and soon to be Marathon, Factions could have been Sony's guaranteed huge success with a shooter! I don't ever play online shooters anymore, but I would have come out of shooter retirement for a new Factions game.

RaidenBlack370d ago (Edited 370d ago )

{ coming from the above thread }
So PS Fellas hate first person games now? (Understandable)
But praise Killzone and Resistance series, as well?
And hope for a return of first party first person games? ~ but from where? insomniac is deep in marvel territory, guerilla is deep in aloy territory ... suckerP are not as big to undertake that change + dedicated to Ghost series
The only options are ND and Santa Monica, who are rumoured to be involved in parallel projects. ~ so take your pick.
And the other 'new' studios at Sony are not that hot right now with knee deep in live service fiasco

Wait I thought they cancelled a game? Or did they announce another project?

https://wccftech.com/naught...

pwnmaster3000371d ago (Edited 371d ago )

I’m assuming it’s the unannounced game in the title you posted.

“Naughty Dog Reportedly Canceled a Single Player Game This Year, But Another Unannounced Game Is Still in the Works“

Lightning77371d ago

OK I gotcha. That makes sense.

jznrpg371d ago

Devs cancel games all the time early stages if it doesn’t turn out the way they envisioned it. We just don’t hear about every one of them.

Notellin370d ago

Yeah only a narcissist like Druckmann would announce a game this early that has a 99% chance of being cancelled.

badz149370d ago

so a 2028 release at the soonest

Lightning77370d ago (Edited 370d ago )

Some speculate it could be Uncharted spin off. It's already 3 years in production so yeah 2028 maybe 2027 at the absolute earliest but most likely 28 release.

Also to add. kojimas next game that's not OD is said to be 5 to 6 years out for PS. That metal gear inspired game. These games are just too far off it seems.

pwnmaster3000371d ago

This dude is busy.
So who is running intergalactic?

Knushwood Butt371d ago

'We have several directors on Intergalactic. I work with two game directors: Matthew Gallant and Kurt Margenau, [and] I have a co-writer in Clair Carré.'

pwnmaster3000371d ago (Edited 371d ago )

Okay you got me, I skimmed the article and video .
Thanks lol

vTuro24371d ago

Cuckmann is going to be Naughty Dog's downfall.

371d ago
itBourne370d ago

Going to be? The damage is already done lol.

Flewid638370d ago

Sunlight is good for you, I promise. lol

vTuro24370d ago

Damage has been done but it's not too late yet if they dump him now. Probably won't happen though. It's sad, honestly. We'll see what happens after Intergalactic. That game is going to have a huge impact one way or another.

StormSnooper370d ago (Edited 370d ago )

Yes because they didn’t make some of the greatest games. Right, we all just agree to live in your fantasy from now on.

Flewid638370d ago

yall say that about ever developer and then they end up becoming more successful lol

mkis007370d ago

Downfall? If anything he is a huge reason they are on the map! A few apes don't like the material hasn't stopped his games from being massive hits.

DarXyde370d ago

I have grievances with Druckmann, but he does deserve some benefit of the doubt. He's been in crucial roles at the company through all of their successes.

Maybe wait and see?
