Wii U/3DS Ubisoft support looks grim going forward

GGG writes about how the recent news that Wii U software makes up only 3% of Ubisoft's sales and how 3DS games make up 0% point towards a future without much Ubisoft support outside of titles like Just Dance.

why do they show that stupid image? Ubisoft has confirmed Watch Dogs is still releasing for the Wii U. Sales however will be terrible since they decided to release late. Ubisoft will no doubt scale back their plans for the Wii U and they will blame it on the lack of sales of Watch Dogs.

Why Ubisoft skips the 3DS is a real head scratcher. Userbase is massive for that handheld, much higher than the Vita.

Metallox4390d ago

And I suppose it's easier to develope for 3DS, so I don't understand either.

DanielGearSolid4390d ago (Edited 4390d ago )

For watchdogs alot things couldve went into their decision to delay.

Honestly I don't think using it as a scapegoat was one of the reasons... How does that benefit them?

My guess is Pre-orders for the WiiU version weren't encouraging

GordonKnight4390d ago

It might have been better if Ubisoft announced the extra gamepad features.

I'm getting this game for PS4 at launch, but will still purchase the Wii U version if it has extra gamepad features.

Still haven't pre-ordered though.

Nevers0ft4390d ago

I think the delay probably has more to do with Nintendo releasing MK8 a few days later. Even a game as big as Watch_Dog wouldn't stand a chance against a 1st party game on a Nintendo console.

DarthZoolu4390d ago

Some companies want their games to be exactly they way they envisioned them and sometimes they need certain hardware to do that.

MsmackyM4390d ago

Did they envision 900/792p 30fps?

Ck1x4390d ago

Damn you set yourself up for that one...

Grilla4389d ago

If it can run on a ps3 or xbox 360, it can run on the Wii U. 3rd party didn't abandon the Wii U cuz of the power. They don't think they'll get a return on their investment, plain and simple.

deafdani4390d ago

The reason of the delay for the Wii U version could be as simple as not wanting to compete against Mario Kart 8. None of the other consoles has such a monolith coming out this month to compete against.

Not saying that's the case, but I'm giving Ubisoft the benefit of the doubt. In the end, no matter what haters say, Ubi has been the biggest third party supporter for the Wii U by a mile.

Hell, I'm actually surprised they haven't straight out cancelled the Wii U version of Watch_Dogs, to be honest.

Neonridr4390d ago

Some rumours floating around are that the Wii U version will release a month later at the end of June. If that is the case, then I will gladly wait for the Wii U version.

Grilla4390d ago

I wouldn't be surprised if they did cancel Watch Dogs. Have they even given a release date?

I didn't buy the Wii U to play Watch Dogs, that's what the ps4 is for.

deafdani4389d ago

"I didn't buy the Wii U to play Watch Dogs, that's what the ps4 is for."

If I had both systems, and the PS4 only offered better graphics, and the Wii U offered the same game but with improved gameplay thanks to the Gamepad... I'd definitely take the Wii U version.

Grilla4389d ago

Sorry to say, but I think you're in the minority. The majority of people buy Nintendo systems for the exclusives, not 3rd party games.

They should just try to make good portable games. Rayman Legends on the Vita is their best portable game and it's just a port of the console version.

The 3DS has a good install base and they would be stupid to ignore it.

They just need to make more "portable" experiences instead of larger scale games.

Well, to be fair, even Ubisoft's best efforts at AAA multiplats for the Wii U, by and large, have been treated as the lesser versions.

If Ubisoft really wants to get Wii U gamers on their side, they'll release an open-world RPG with great anime-style art as an exclusive for the Wii U, then turn it into a trilogy that gets progressively better.

I'd plunk down money for that kind of thing in a heart-beat, especially if they put out exciting advertisement for it.

On a more cheerful note, though; I'm greatly enjoying Child of Light.

JuleyJules4390d ago

It's shocking that Wii U sales are about 3% considering Wii U sales are about 3% of what PS3/4 and Xbox One/360 are worldwide! What more do they expect??? Until Wii U sales go up (provided they do with big games like MK8 and SSB) the sales on 3rd party games aren't going to go up much. How can they possibly????

Flungsomepoo4390d ago

With all the 1/2 ass ports on wii U. What do AAA expect?
Sit and cry about the wii U but do nothing to makes us want there games.
Ubisoft has done a good job. And it will pay off for them by the end of the year.

I can't sit here and act like I know these workers financial situations. And I'm sure nobody wakes up WANTING to go to court. But for the sake of the industry, I wish some of these types of cases made it to trial.

Settlements allow companies to continue to do whatever abusive practices they do. While the trials (should the company lose) would actually force real changes for the better.

But again, I'm not in these workers shoes and I can understand them not wanting to risk it.
