Who Is Going To “Win” E3 2014?

We can all agree that Sony bludgeoned Microsoft over the head with an Xbox One at E3 last year and then ran off with the show while floating on a cloud (no to be confused with the cloud). You’ll be hard-pressed to find a better case than this of a company “winning” E3. With just about a month to go until the smoke, mirrors and hype get poured out from a stage, Perhaps we should take a look at where everybody is at currently.

Within the context of this article, where Sony and Microsoft are going head to head; who will win? No cheating, pick one. What do you really think is going to happen?

I am rooting for Microsoft but I believe Sony will win. Its really unbalanced because Microsoft, who has had a handful of exclusives, has not been able to leverage those to outsell the competition. So the pressure is on.

What Sony has done is to make the PS4 the multiplat system of choice which is the ultimate prize. Everything else is just gravy (chicken gravy actually). Microsoft needs to have a playable Halo 5 demo. That could do it. Anything short of that is an automatic victory to Uncharted... I mean Sony.

Was E3 last year really that much of a win for Sony? If it wasn't for their pricing of the PS4 and the hilarious 'How to share games' I would have given Microsoft the win last year for the first time in a long time for bringing the games.

Microsoft has had some ridiculously mediocre press conferences during the Mattrick ERA, The last time they killed E3 was when Peter Moore revealed Halo 2 and people went bananas maybe not on Miyamoto level but it it was high up there. Ubisoft wasn't to hot at E3 neither for the longest time until they pulled magic in 2012 and 2013 with reveals such as Watch Dogs, Far Cry 3 and The Division. Furthermore If Sony can continue delivering press conferences like they have been doing the past 9 years they will definitely win. Just like a Heavyweight champion boxer they do a good job opening up the show(Montages) and closing the show,(Big Game Reveals) the show stopper always wins.

It'll sure be different at the Sony Conference this year, not seeing Jack Tretton walk out onto that stage, "drop the mic" and and bring joy to the crowd :(...Hopefully this Shawn Layden guy can have the same impact as Tretton did.

On the opposite side of Sony, I'm really excited to see Phil Spencer doing his first e3 being in charge of Xbox now. If you thought last years E3 was blown out with games, which he was responsible for, then this years E3 should be as good, if not better.

Microsoft definitely would've won last year if the whole DRM debacle wasn't there along with the $500 price tag (worth it in my opinion)

@lifeisgamesok: I agree theres a lot to look foreward to on any platform. I expect a much better E3 conference from both Sony and MS this year cause they'll be able to concentrate on games. I can't wait to see what surprises Sony, MS and Nintendo have up their sleeves.

The whole winning E3 talk is stupid. These consoles offer such unique experiences and have their own sets of strengths that its impossible to pick a "winner."

Lets mature as a gaming community and just be happy that we are getting great new games all around.

These petty gaming wars are pointless.

Like I said before, I think that Microsoft is going to have the better E3. However, I am interested to see which company will show the best game. The game that everyone will be talking about!

Will it be Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft, EA, Ubisoft, Konami?

E3 2012 definitely was Ubisoft with Watch_Dogs... Last year who it was? (I don't remember)

I'd agree with that. I still haven't bought a new gen console but The Division is definitely the type of game that will make me buy one before it releases. Destiny too, though the last footage underwhelmed me for reasons I can't really explain. I still want it though.

Yeah, I think that it was either the Division or Titanfall.

That's why I am more interested in the games, because the best games not necessarily mean the best conference. Sony's E3 could be the most boring thing ever, but they could announce the best game, it's anyone's game, and that's the best thing..

Games like that is what bring the industry forward. We all know that Microsoft is going to show COD, Sony will show Assassin's Creed, one of them will show FF XV and Batman.

But the games that are unexpected, that impress because of the graphics, or innovation, or gameplay, are the winners!

Yeah I wish they'd focus on exclusives more myself. Timed exclusive content is a factor for many people, otherwise these companies wouldn't try to get it first, but a simple announcement would be good enough for me. Multiplats will get plenty of coverage anyway, so in these conferences if there's gameplay footage, especially an onstage demo, I'd rather it was something truly exclusive.

And of course they are interested in winning, because that means more people want their games, which mean they want their console, which means a more successful business for them.

Sony, easily. Why?

1. Multiplats look better on PS4
2. More exclusive titles (both "AAA" and "indie")
3. lower priced console
4. complete "ecosystem" including PS3, PS4 and Vita
5. Project Morpheus

What does MS have? Mostly game announcements, which again, will be eclipsed by Sony's announcements...new "XBox Originals" video programming, which gamers couldn't care less about. And????

Unless MS has something REALLY impressive that they managed to keep a secret, they are going to look pathetic at this year's E3!

"Winning" E3 should just consist one thing, games. Too many people have forgotten that games are what make this industry. I'm sure there are plenty of people who get excited about new tech or which console costs less(lol), but that's not what is most important to this industry.

Using that as the measuring stick, it's a complete toss up who could have the best show. MS "won" with games last year, but Ubisoft wasn't far behind. Just one Zelda U or Last Guardian could easily steal the show for their respective camp.

As i commented weeks ago Phil Spencer ends the MS Conference by saying "over the last year we have listened to our fans, we have made changes to our product based on their feedback and have become a better company for it....to be this good takes ages...."
The lights go out and we suddenly hear
"SEGA". Lights come back on Phil standing centre stage and says
"We are happy to announce the arrival of SEGA to the Microsoft family. They will be heading up our Japanese launch along with its premier launch title Shenmue 3!"

Hmm Im not sure if you're being sarcastic or not. If not and you legitimately don't know, which is entirely possible allow me to tell you. Shenmue 3 is (would be) an action RPG and the concluding part of a planned trilogy that started back on the Sega Dreamcast. It's yet another title that joins the ranks of Last Guardian & Half Life 3 as a long awaited titled that people wish for at every E3 but never turns up.

Everyone is entitled to Star Wars Battlefront 3. We have only been waiting for it for like a Decade.

(besides after the Titanfall fiasco I doubt MS wants to buy Exclusives from EA anymore.....unless it's Mass Effect 4)

its deff on sonys favor all sony has to do is announce the last guardian. they don't even have to show other big games if they can show last guarding and give estimated date. everyone will say sony wins. i get a feeling microsoft will show more games this e3 but the cards are so stacked against it, in the public eyes they won't get a win

As people have said gamers are going to win E3. But that is not what egmr want to here is it?

So here is my view. If Sony announce some killer exclusives. Such as Demon's Souls 2, The Getaway, Socom, Wipeout, Last Gardian PS4, then Sony will win E3. If the above happens it won't really matter what Microsoft does in my opinion. Unless they announce something so shocking. Like XB1 now £250 or something like that. Or next GTA or Red Dead is XB1 exclusive. Which I really doubt.

If Microsoft announce a Xbox One official price drop or a Kinectless SKU with some killer exclusives and Sony fails to deliver the above. Then in my opinion Microsoft wins E3.

Am not going to mention Nintendo as I have no real interest what they do to be fair.
