Don’t Count Nintendo Out Just Yet!

In case you haven’t heard, Nintendo just revealed their plans for this year’s E3, and for the second year in a row they do not include a stage presentation. Like most of you, when I heard the news I immediately thought that Nintendo was making a mistake.

Couldn't think of a more original title?

randomass1714400d ago

I like it! It's a phrase that rings with truth. :)

ritsuka6664400d ago

This E3 is last chance for WII U for sure.

Sincere01214400d ago (Edited 4400d ago )

Agreed, I got faith in Nintendo, they got nothing to lose so hopefully they bring out some big guns like star fox and metroid.
Can't wait to see the new ip's either.

Mario Karts may 30th, super smash bro due out later this year, If Nintendo get their Marketing right, I think the Wii U will take the lead in sales.

mikeslemonade4400d ago

Sorry but nothing is digging the Wii out of it's hole. It slowing less than Dreamcast LTD, so they will need 10 exclusives that actually matter.

andibandit4400d ago (Edited 4400d ago )

No way, the headstart they had before ps4 and X1, was their chance.

The only way they can come back is to introduce Wii Music 3, and have that crazy drummer from E3 2008 and Miyamoto on stage doing a duet.

Chrischi19884400d ago (Edited 4400d ago )

The Headstart was not in the slightest bit a chance. It just got bad xbox 360 ports of games, the same thing, that held the PS3 games back. If they wouldve made games only for Wii U or at least really optimized it for Wii U, it wouldve been a different story, but they didnt and that is actually not Nintendos fault, it is 3rd Parties, because from the very beginnning they gimped the games.

All here on the board always moan about how great the PS4 is, but what would these people say, if it just got bad Xbox One ports? Then the power doesnt matter anymore. 3rd Parties just decided to support the PS4 the way it should be for each console.

Realplaya4400d ago

That's not even kinda funny.

3-4-54400d ago

E3 isn't the last chance for the Wii U, but it's the last GREAT chance for it to really grab people's attention.

It will exist and be successful but not at the level they are hoping, which is why this E3 is extremely important for everybody.

The Race is still pretty close because games matter more than anything and No one console has yet to show it has so many games that you HAVE to have that console.

E3 will change that for somebody.

randomass1714400d ago

I'm sure Wii U will be okay this year. We still have heavy hitters coming out. Last chance or not, Wii U will make a splash, I think.

Variant4400d ago

I have been trying to make sense of the "E3 is last chance for WII U for sure" mindset:

-brand loyalty.

-one with that certain outlook has been persuaded by negative articles, opinion pieces, et cetera.

-the resulting mentality of disappointment by Nintendo's lack of a traditional press conference.

-pursuit of internal or external conflict in order to pass the time as E3 is only one month away now.

-a simple reason that I am overlooking because I have gotten myself confused.

Personally, when it comes to video games, I believe there is no last chance/time; I play through Final Fantasy VIII at least once a year. I will want to see all that is presented at E3 and will definitely read about all of them.

staggering 2.7 million wii u consoles nintendo shipped last fiscal year. it's dead

Moonman4400d ago

But you sales guys always seem to leave out the out the MOST important part...with highly acclaimed first party games (that outsell others first party games even with a lower install base).

Nintendo now makes a profit on every console that does sell. Good bye.

ShowGun9014400d ago

sigh... i'd love to buy a wiiu, but it will be my SECONDARY console, ps4 securely in first. If i get one, it'll only be for the first party stuff, I probably wont get 1 game for it by anybody else. and if thats the case, I doubt i can justify the purchase to only play around 10 games.

thats why 3rd party support matters. I REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY wanna play the new mario kart, SSB, and someday a new metroid and starfox. but if thats all im getting for the money, ill sadly have to pass.

randomass1714400d ago

Don't sweat it. Wii U will probably be my secondary as well. I'll always be a Sony guy first. But Nintendo's franchises are my jam! And I ain't willing to miss out on some of the gold that's hitting that system. There will be others, I'm sure. You'll see. :)

randomass1714400d ago

Dead before Kart and Smash? I think absolutely not.

Razorus4400d ago

I wouldn't say it's Nintendo's very last chance, but they do need to get their act together, and very soon. I've been saying it for years; they've lost the respect of many of their installed fan base and they don't interest any of the newer gamers. I'm anxious to see what they do this year, but I think this E3 is going to be a quiet one for them like last year.
I predict we'll get solid details on Smash Bros, a Zelda/Metroid/Mario/StarFox reveal (they need the big guns) and more news on updated to the eStore and indie games.

U.S. patent examiner rejects Nintendo’s summoning characters patent as obvious: non-final ruling

The rejection is non-final (and even when such rejections are labeled as “final”, the process is far from over, given that there can be, at minimum, an appeal to the Federal Circuit).

Good, as they should! A game mechanic like that shouldn't be locked behind a patent, and Nintendo didn't invent it either.

PRIMORDUS55d ago (Edited 55d ago )

Nintendo wants to keep wasting money on bullshit lawsuits, real smart in this economy. They should put that money aside for other game projects. On the other hand, I don't care if they waste it all either, and they are screwed in the future maybe that will teach them a lesson.

Nintendo Suing U.S. Government Over Tariffs

The fact that you have ANY disagrees will forever baffle me. And to the (apparent) MAGA contingent that exists on this website, enjoy your 8-9 dollar gas.

AuraAbjure79d ago (Edited 79d ago )

Yes, they had better be pissed after Trump told them the way they rip off the USA is over.

EveryPlatformGamer81d ago

LOL I read this on gaff, will they refund the money back to the gamers? highly unlikely. Didn't they just raise prices and pass it onto the gamers? Only Nintendo would send out the Ninjas to the US government.

-Foxtrot80d ago

That’s what I was thinking, imagine them winning hypothetically, getting a s**t load of money back which they would have lost if they hadn’t raised their prices and it’s business as normal.

It would just mean people paid more for no reason since they got the money back anyway.

Outside_ofthe_Box80d ago (Edited 80d ago )

A lot of companies partially passed the cost to consumers instead of all of it. They would still have to at least pay that back to gamers, but we know that won't happen. What's also sad is that prices won't come back down after the initial hike caused by tariffs.

People didn't understand the full repercussions of tariffs. That alone should have cost him the presidency if people knew it was a permanent price hike for consumers

Inverno80d ago

The people should sue these companies for having to over pay cause of these tariffs.

Eonjay80d ago

Naw they should sue the government for forcing the tax to begin with. No one reasonably expects these companies to absorb the taxes. Many smaller companies tried and were shut down or faced to increase prices to try to maintain their business. The tariffs effect everyone.

Inverno79d ago

I meant it mostly as a joke cause we all know the costs of these tariffs were passed onto the consumer. But it's seems no matter how vocal we are here in the states our "representatives" don't seem to care enough to represent us. And things are about to get worse.

Killer2020UK79d ago

The companies were doing what the law required then to do, the tariffs however were illegally implemented. Usually it's criminals we punish, you seem to have different ideas 🤷‍♂️
