Given the wider-spread audience of casual players that migrate toward consoles, the sim end of car racing is essentially an endangered species-or maybe even extinct, depending on one's vantage point (some consider Forza a sim, while others do not, for example).
The bird known as the console sim racer wasn't always as rare as a bald eagle. In fact, sims flourished for many years on the original Xbox, with much of the reason pointing directly toward U.K. developer Codemasters. Codemasters' Race Driver franchise was a cult hit in the U.S., despite being a ridiculously difficult driving sim that centered heavily on Euro-centric vehicles and racing series. Codemasters has also been responsible for one of the best rally simulators for the Xbox as well with the longstanding Colin McRae series. Again, excruciating difficulty and Euro-to-U.S. lost-in-translation kept this WRC-spec franchise from dominating here, but those in the know in the States fully realized how solid these games really were."

Was surprised to see Hellblade again, they gave it away last year with Humble Monthly
