story can be confusing for a bit especially if not played the first.

this is why this series is so amazing, you really have to put this stuff together, mostly by the item descriptions.

Ps4 and Xbone are collecting dust because of this game, I simply can't get enough.

I love Dark Souls 2, but it, for me, is a lot weaker in some aspects than the original.

I hope DS3 goes back to a persistent, less open world. Opening most of the locations like in DS2 right off the bat makes it less of a cohesive experiece.

The director of this game left for a reason. The effect of him leaving can somehow be felt in this product.

Kivespussi4401d ago

I really like the open world aspect. What IS bothering me though is some bad level design elements. For example some enemies that are petrified and are blocking the way. Both NPC humans you save from petrification are blocking your way well, but some enemies not. For example the giant hippo thing in Aldia's Keep. There's like 2 meters both sides to go trough but nope. There's a monster in the way, you can't fit through. Also for example before the Drangleic castle you need to go through the shrine of winters because there's a pile of dirt in your way that literally a 5 year old can climb over. But nope, let's not climb over it, let's slay dozens of bosses to get the shrine of winter open so we won't have to waste 20 seconds to climb over something so small.

Not really a major complaint but usually the souls series have been careful about stuff like this so dark souls 2 having things like this is not good.

Yeah! The level design is weak this time. In Dark Souls, most areas are well mapped, and most of them have interconnection. DS2 strays away from this level design in that after a major boss battle, you'll see yourself using a warp bonfire to Majula.

I also think that giving you the means to jump from one bonfire to another right away is an immersion breaker.

I hope Hidetaka Yamazaki creates a new dark-fantasy game that greatly improves upon the DS series. To be honest, I really loved Demon's Souls world and player tendencies. This system worked so well; I wish we get to experience it again in a new game!

Many of those who hate Dark Souls II hate it because it's not Dark Souls. The same people love Dark Souls III because it isn't Dark Souls II.

And so many of the issues at the centre of common complaints about DS2 are present in DS3 and sometimes even DS1. The hatred and bile spewed over this perfectly decent game is ludicrous.

I don’t think it’s a terrible game, but like a movie sequel by a different director, for me, it does NOT capture any of the “magic” felt from the Miyazaki entries. Boss battles don’t feel epic, environments don’t have the same sense of awe, the enemy variety isn’t particularly interesting, the art direction just feels bland, about the only thing I can give it praise for is some of the music.

Now, again, this is only how I feel about it, so I’m not trying to invalidate his you feel about the game, but it is the worst entry in the series due to those factors and it’s the least re-visited entry, for me.

Is it decent as a game on its own? Sure. But in comparison to the Miyazaki entries, it does not stack up and I believe that’s where many were disappointed with it.

PrimeVinister366d ago

Completely fair. I cannot disagree either, mate.

MrWood366d ago (Edited 366d ago )

You can also play it in VR flawlessly on PC & controller with the LukeRoss mod so… another reason to jump back in with extra immersion.

jznrpg366d ago

It’s not a bad game it’s just not as good as the others

Shadow Man365d ago

The controls felt very clunky to me, I tried playing it after beating Darksouls 3 and it didn’t feel fluid, obviously the hit detection is less superior for been an older game.

Man, I dunno about that. In fact, most boss fights in Dark Souls 2 were forgettable.
