I remember thinking EQ2 looked far better than WoW at the time, but man blizzards art direction has aged well.
One of the bigger issues people who had enjoyed the original EQ had with EQ2 was that they couldn't port their characters over, characters they had worked on for years. Out of resentment, a lot of those EQ players went with WoW.
Something I experienced while into MMO's when I was going in between Wow, GW2, Rift, and SWTOR was how incredibly.. and fascinatingly fickle the MMO crowd had become with their games. Some of the vets I had played with had been playing the genre since Vanilla Wow, or even the first EQ. They had become bitter to the genre, but at the same time they were ALWAYS looking for the next big thing. A lot of them, I suspect didn't like complacency. My guild disbanded not too long ago, but before that I hadn't played regularly for a year and a half. Anyways the community for MMO's is some of the best, and worst you'll see in this entire industry just make sure you're in a good guild :)
