Microsoft: Don't Cut Off the Long Tail

Wired writes: What on Earth is Microsoft thinking? Consider the case of Asteroids Deluxe, above. Maybe it's not the most popular game on Xbox Live Arcade, but surely there are some people out there who want to play a high-def version of Atari's classic shooter, right?

What happens when I get the RRoD and have to re-download content again? It won't be there.

Breakfast6583d ago (Edited 6583d ago )

lol...its not a matter of 'if', its a matter of 'when'...nice going MS.

I just read this:

"People who have previously purchased the game will still be able to re-download it through their Download History even if the game isn't visible in Marketplace."

So good news for you. Oh..and your hard-drive doesnt RROD.

bootsielon6583d ago

The Hard Drive DOES "rrod", as in it fails. I am currently on my third hard drive. I mean seriously, Microsh1t probably sent me a faulty one after my first one died (and I lost all my game saves). I did not have to pay for neither of the "new" HDDs, but I did have to pay for shipping. F--ing Microshaft.

So lesson for everyone, use memory cards for saving games, HDD for game installs, and if you are a media whore, buy the 120GB HDD.

Breakfast6583d ago

I know that it fails, but it doesnt fail when you get RROD. Its a total separate case when your hard-drive fails. In David Drake case, he was talkin about the console RROD. And in your case, you're extremely unlucky...lol.

Stryfeno16583d ago

You don't have to worry about losing any xbla games because the info are all on your gamercard/xbl account.

bootsielon6582d ago

Microsoft made HDD products fail. I am on my third one, and I lost all my game saves. It is just an advice, you will stop hitting the disagree button when that happens to you unless you are a fanboy. I bet that guy with the hulk avatar disagreed with me. I have him on my ignore list.

And breakfast, yes they are separate cases, but it still happens, which is what really sucks. So save your games on a 512MB memory card, just in case.

Well it's about time Microsoft is focusing on Quality over Quantity. Yes, there may be more games for download on Xbox Live Arcade, but I can pretty much guarantee that there are more quality games for download on the Playstation Network. Quality should always come before Quantity because what's the use of having 300 or 400 downloadable games when only around 50-100 of them are actually Quality downloadable games?

Clinton5146583d ago (Edited 6583d ago )

hehe. I won't say it.

These guys complain about the moves that actually makes sense. Why flood the marketplace with garbage under performing games? It just reflects poorly upon you if the majority of your selection is weak.

I'd say MS did a good thing by axing the crap.

Close_Second6583d ago

...allow XBL members to vote for the game within marketplace. Then allow ll XBL users to then apply filters by averaging rating to exclude all the sub-standard content from search lists.

Would be interesting to see what the user voted top 25 games are on XBLA.

"Gaming’s Biggest Fighting Franchise"

Press X to (seriously) doubt.

DarXyde42d ago

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

And then MK1 killed it again.

15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.
