Whatever Happened to Color?

Trustygamer writes: "I don't know what the hell is going on with modern game design and aesthetics. Remember those days when you'd turn on a video game, and it truly felt like you were being transported to another world? I remember having feelings of happiness playing games like Duke Nukem 3D or Mario64. Even with their simplistic gameplay and storyline elements, I honestly think I had more fun playing those games than playing any of the more modern and "immersive" games of today."

i think we all know what type of gamer this guy is...

And i'm sorry but some of those pictures have plenty of color and he took the screenshots with bland backgrounds..

I guess he loved Mario Bros. way too much and hasn't been able to move on...

Some people just want attention.. i love games, and i love the differences in them.. there is art in games and there's different art styles.. i don't want all my games neo green, and pinks and red,

both gears and killzone2 look great, yet a lot of people complain about killzone2 for the art style when gears was goty 2 years ago.. lol what's the problem now??

i wish i could meet all of these people so i can punch them in the face and tell them to use their head b4 they write crap like this

I wholeheartedly agree. ESPECIALLY the part about wanting to blast him in the face with my bony hand.

Maybe he's so d@mn depressed all the time is because he's a pessimist? If you look at a game based in the real world, what do you think it's going to look like? Answer: THE REAL WORLD. Imagine that.

Do you want to save the world with a serious storyline and banjo kazooie graphics? Didn't think so. If you want colorful games, you need to look at a game not based completely in the real world. Little Big Planet, Banjo Kazooie, Viva Pinata, Ratchet & Clank, etc. There are plenty of games with color out there, it's just that most of them don't involve killing people. If you need a violent colorful game, Dead Rising was good.

You can't have a serious game covered in rainbows. It'd be ridiculous.

This guy is going out of his way to find something to b!tch about. The games don't make him feel depressed, he IS depressed. Bless his soul.

If all else fails, get a Wii.

THis guy sould stay with nintendo and enjoy all those flat shaded graphics.

dan-boy6575d ago

especially when i switch the colours to vibrant! people do know there is a seeting for vibrant in gears???? or is it just sony fans that dont, and try to say that there's no colour in the game???????????

anyway, i'm colour blind(well a red/green deficiency!) and i like to have colourful games. if red and green are to intermingled, they just look like browns to me...and i have a nitemare seeing the red-dot sight in ghost-recon on some levels,

To dan-boy, gears use's the UE3 engine, UT3 use's the UE3 engine, both have a vibrant setting. So not sure why you'd need to bring the sony comment into it... yes we are fully aware.

However, anything using the UE3 engine looks desaturated at the best of times. Turok, Blacksite, etc...

If the story of the game involves a Soldier and his team trying to save/infiltrate/destroy a Planet, the color has to match; The color palette must be subtle enough to give it an eery feel to it,the gamer has to look everywhere and get a feeling of lack of life in the world,a feeling of doom and destruction.

If the story of the game involves a Plumber and is set in a Mushroom Kingdom, the color must match; The palette has to be bright and vibrant to give it that Cartoony-exaggerated feel to it,the gamer has to look everywhere and get a feeling of life all around him/her,a feeling of fun and exploration.

Hideo Kojima put Low Roar in Death Stranding because gamers need more culture in their lives

It's important in life to maintain a broad palette when it comes to culture and the arts. Hideo Kojima agrees, as he continues to use video games like Death Stranding to introduce people to music and other elements they might not otherwise discover.
