The Elder Scrolls Online – So Far, So Good

Last week The Elder Scrolls Online launched to masses of excited Tamriel explorers but has the first multiplayer addition to the franchise lived up to expectations?

wow that sounds impessing...hope it does well on consoles

Look good, but from what I've seen, the combat looks a bit slow and why on Earth did they bring back durability?

Durability in an MMO is nothing big although it could cost a little less. The idea is dying needs an actual setback and losing experience is too taboo in today's market (item/corpse loss like EQ days even more so). It is expensive at times but not unbearable.

Combat varies depending on how you play and build your character. as you level up and get new skills or upgrade them it helps and 5-10 skills (at 15 new weapon slot and its skill slots unlock) isn't near as bad as some fear as many skills do multiple things all at once.

I'm actually enjoying dungeons more in ESO than I have in years. It can be hectic as AoE taunts are from what I've seen is nonexistent so tank has to actually try, FPS may need to focus fire stragglers but more, and even some trash have skills/spells that have to be interrupted or maneuvered away from (big pulls in dungeons can go wrong easy especially if rare patrol comes along). It isn't too difficult with a good tank or healer but quite refreshing compared to some MMOs.

Plus boss fights even early on have a few tricks to keep you from just tank and spank the whole time. Some are easy like that of course but most require more thought and attention to do right.

My highest character is only 30 ATM but ran 9 real dungeons and if they are just the beginning I look forward to later ones.

Not a fan of this game. Oh well, I tried.

There's nothing special about it. Just another MMO based on PvE.

I'm not a huge fan of the pvp myself but it is early still. I hope in expansions when new parts of Tamriel open up there is more focus on world pvp (2-3 huge portions of Tamriel unexposed still).

Cyroddil isn't terrible on paper but Zerg heavy so far. I like the idea though as smaller targets as well as big ones, anchors appear there (haven't fought one yet as being boosted to 50 more or less attribute wise is not the same as being level 50), etc so there is more to do there than just take over forts or hunt players.

The game has a lot of potential but just way too early to say if it lives up to it and part of that depends on the players.

PvE though is pretty great other than occasional bug that gets in the way still. Quests IMO are better than most although time consuming for some of them. If you just rush and ignore the story though most aren't anything particularly special but some are well worth enjoying.
