5 things that makes Gamestop unbearable

Gamerblorge writes: "As a gamer who has an insatiable tendency to make impulse purchases, Gamestop, for better or worse, tends to be my one-stop shop for all things gaming. With that said, I also despise Gamestop as much if not more than the judging staff of American Idol, and here's a list of the top 5 worst things about almost every Gamestop location."

only buy used ps2 games that i didn't have the time for when they were brand new

Fototherapist6574d ago

because I shop there regularly. Luckily, the staff at my local store are pretty nice and helpful. Yes, they do the "would you like to pre-order?" script. That's a little annoying.

jadenkorri6574d ago (Edited 6574d ago )

because all the employees are girls, i think theres a guy working there, i never notice... but even so it doen't smell compared to other GS i have gone too, its nice cause i think the gamers actually shower in hopes of impressing them, which i know all fall on def ears...lolz... i talk to them and know them, they are hot, but got me my own girl...oh wells

Megaton6574d ago

I refuse to shop at GameStop, even though I supposedly have a pretty good one nearby (according to one of my friends who shops there). It's like Walmart to me, I just don't shop there because of their poor business practices.

I'd much rather go to Fry's so I can geek out with all kinds of other electronics as well, or shop online at Amazon/eBay.

lessthanmarcus6574d ago

They know absolutely nothing about video games, but that goes for everywhere else. Also, they try and sell me used games as new. I don't want some case everyone's dirty fingers has touched. Also, I know they get to take home new games for personal use. Those same games they take home, they sell as new. Gamestop = scam.

Overhearing an employee telling a mom to wait for a PS3 rather than getting a 360 because she will have to pay $5-$10 for EACH original XBox title her kid wants to play on a 360.

An employee tried to convince me that Halo was coming to the PSP - he was dead serious!

Listening to three employees including the manager(who I thought was cool up to this point) complain and bash previous customers. It was the most unprofessional display I have ever encountered.

I very rarely go in nowadays - especially since most titles can be reserved through other retailers now - or don't need to be reserved because companies are now sending out enough copies at launch for BIG titles.(Despite GTAIV's sales records, copies were available everywhere)

shotputking6575d ago (Edited 6575d ago )

1) people who seem to get way too close to other people in a store. if you don't like how someone smells, back off of them a little.

2) seriously? so should gamestop be kicking little kids out if they play the demo games? damn kids, always trying to enjoy themselves.

3) WHAT!?!?! many parents are uninformed/foolish when it comes to buying video games!!?!?! damn you gamestop!!!!

4) let me get this straight... a STORE... that tries to sell you things!?! i hope this guy never tries to buy a house or a car or any kind of electronics or furniture or anything else... he'll probalby collapse under all that sales pressure if he can't handle a gamestop employee asking him to sign up for a discount card or offering a preorder...

5) i agree with this one. i go into gamestop expecting people with masters degrees in business, who are mentors to young people, drive ferraris, are hot women, or are in general are the kind of person i want to be. instead?? it's people that make $10 an hour, and work as cashiers... it drives me nuts that they don't have strippers and guidance counselors in there.

Well, I'm glad someone here tries to defend GameStop at least a little.

I understand what the author is saying, but as an employee I can tell you some things cannot be helped.

The pre-order offers have to be made. Management clamps down on our balls to push those things. I never do them, but I still have to ask others to. As for the walking out of the store and walking back in, that is just an anal employee. There are policies concerning two copies of the same game, but making you walk out and back in is just the employee being too anal about it. Probably a manager.
Some things may be annoying to customers, but the guy behind the desk doesn't have a choice more than likely.

As for the people that work there, yeah there are some ignorant employees. Some are actually intelligent, some are not. That's the way it is no matter where you go.

As for myself, my existence is not tied up into a 7 dollar an hour videogame store. I work there only a day or two a week, and the main reason I work there is for the discount. I just use my paycheck from them to buy myself new games. Works out pretty well for me, and since I'm there I can make a few new friends on Live and PSN.

you wasted your time trying to be clever. get back to work or shut up.

JD_Shadow6574d ago

"OMFG!! HOW DARE YOU DEFEND YOURSELF!! YOU'RE NOT ALLOWED TO WHEN WE'RE BLASTING YOUR BUSINESS LEFT AND RIGHT!! HOW COULD YOU EVEN THINK TO HAVE A DIFFERENT POV!!!"

You DO realize that not every single person in the world hates GS, do you? And that they have the right to defend their company, right?

Get over it. THERE WILL ALWAYS BE AT LEAST ONE PERSON THAT WILL DISAGREE!! They have the right to like the place, defend the place, whatever, just as much as you have to say how much they suck.

Max Power6575d ago

you guys made me laugh out loud, a first for me on this site. bubbles to you all

IzKyD13316575d ago

i had an encounter like the one mentioned in reason 5, this worker got pissed at me for asking help to find a game, he said "their in alphabetical order, so even a 10 year old can find them"
and i cant tell you how many times i see a 11 or 12 year old beg to his mom to let him buy an M rated game and make up BS reasons as to why their rated M
also, like 90% of the time, one or more of their consoles arent working and the workers are just too lazy to fix them

N2NOther6575d ago

What are you talking about? The employees are too lazy to fix the demo displays? They're not allowed to.

As for this editorial...So he's dead set against pre-orders, huh...Yeah, I encountered a bunch of them on GTA IV launch day when they came in asking for it and got denied because they didn't have it reserved. It's all about convenience. I work at Gamestop and I reserve my games.

And I will openly admit that I'm one of those people that criticizes console choices...But that's mostly Wii people because they ask for games like GTA and Call of Duty 4...So I just smile and shake my head.

nhrolla6574d ago

arent owned/maintained by the store. the representatives from the system's respective company is in charge of their display system.
