Harrison On Atari Softening Hardcore Focus

Phil Harrison hardly had time to settle into his highly-publicized new role as president of Infogrames before being shuttled across the Atlantic to head up a press junket for Eden Studios' upcoming Alone in the Dark.

Questions abound regarding Harrison's plans for Infogrames and subsidiary Atari - he has indicated he plans to focus more on online and social gaming, areas he was known to champion (sometimes with resistance) during his long tenure at Sony Computer Entertainment.

Soon he will be launching Alone in the Dark, an update to the classic survival series that has been in the works for some four years at Eden. The high-budget title that hopes to bridge some of the gaps between games and passive serialized entertainment like television - it is sold all on one disc, but the game is split up into episodes, even allowing users to skip ahead to episodes they have not yet reached. It is set to ship this June for PC and Xbox 360, alongside Wii and PS2 versions from Hydravision entertainment; a PS3 version is expected this fall.

Gamasutra sat down with Harrison during the recent event - although he was largely unwilling to stray off the topic of the headlining game, as we were reminded numerous times by multiple PR folk. Still, he did touch on some of his longer-term plans for Atari, and indicated that Alone in the Dark is likely to represent one of the publisher's last forays into high-budget, single-player hardcore gaming.

PS3 games are being delayed again. What a shocker!

The original Alone in the Dark trilogy is currently free on GOG

It’s part of the GOG Preservation Program, which ensures it stays running on modern PCs.

At least a lot of people will finally play Bomb Rush Cyberfunk.

Eonjay273d ago

I have been hearing a lot of positive feedback in reference to this game. Honna give it a go.

Terry_B274d ago

A really good month this time.

Don't care for NBA but its pretty cool that Destiny 2 is now completely? with all dlc? available via ps+ essential for those who have it since years.

Also Alone in the Dark and Bomb Rush will be played through by me.

Elda274d ago

I'll download The Final Shape.

Overall great deals for everyone I guess.

For me personally though:

• "players who join PlayStation Plus during this year’s celebration can save up to 33% on select 12-month memberships."

• "players who are currently a PlayStation Plus Essential or Extra member, save 33% on the remainder of your membership when upgrading to PlayStation Plus Premium/Deluxe."

Ehhh ... Days of Play last until 11th. My subscription expires June, 14th.

I literally am laughing at me rn.

DivineHand125276d ago

If Sony allowed subscriptions to be sold by third party sellers like they did in the PS4 days, you would not have this problem.

VersusDMC276d ago

That's why everyone should get their subscriptions now as last years days of play was may 29 to 12th of june. Mine is expiring on the 7th so i will just get essential or possibly extra this year.

And you can atleast get 15 days of extra or premium at 33% off to try it out.

Profchaos275d ago

You used to be able to stack you Sub with these deals it would be good to do this as I'm not paying 214 for deluxe again

Abear21275d ago

Forza is already on sale, with patience you can buy dozens of games for that $

GhostScholar275d ago

This shows how game pass is eating ps plus lunch…..they’re lowering the price and the crazy thing is the premium tier is worse than the tier below it lol

Will see about getting my kid a cheaper PS Plus sub so he can backup and transfer his saves again. Really wish that was free ala XB.

Hopefully Destiny 2 The Final Shape comes with a free gear level upgrade like last year’s PS Plus offering. To bring you up to speed with all the content and everyone else. I still need to do a Nightfall Strike on Grandmaster difficulty, but ain’t got time to grind.

Lexreborn2275d ago

Why not add him to you PlayStation plus family? I added my sons and it includes access to all my games and ps plus.

P_Bomb275d ago (Edited 275d ago )

I have my primary set to his console so he can play online multiplayer and all my games, but it doesn’t give him access to cloud storage. That’s the problem. He needs to back up his saves. From the link:

PlayStation Plus features that can't be shared

Buying PlayStation Plus discounted products
Redeeming PS Plus games on another account.
Online storage.
Auto patch download.
Early access to time-limited game trials.

More like Days of Meh.... no specialized controllers or systems like in 2018 and 2019.

Eonjay276d ago (Edited 276d ago )

I mean it feels like you are forcing yourself to be negative here. Those are some really decent deals tbh. Also, everyone thought PS5 would go up to match Xbox so going down is a nice surprise too.

Eonjay276d ago

They did not confirm price increases. That is a lie.

Eonjay276d ago

If you really beleived what you are saying why do you have to keep making alts to say it?

darthv72276d ago

None of those deals are of any great consequence to me. I was hoping they would bring back the special themed hardware after a 5 year break. They had it in 2018 and 19 and nothing for 20-24. 25 could have been the year to bring it back.

ocelot07275d ago

To be fair he right about the special edition days of play controllers and hardware. They could of at least made a controller and limited edition ps5 side plates for the event.

But the other deals are cool.

Boy, that's a real strange and specific goal post to have.

raWfodog276d ago (Edited 276d ago )

To be clear, what are you referring to when you say 'specialized'? Just wanted to know if you had a different take on these controller and system deals.

Deals on PS5 console offerings include:

In the United States and Canada, PlayStation 5 console – Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Bundle (Digital and Standard) will be available starting at $399.99 USD / $509.99 CAD (Save up to $119.99 USD / $159.99 CAD compared to buying separately).
In select regions such as Europe and Asia, PlayStation 5 console (Digital and Standard) will be on promotion, starting at €399.99 / £339.99 / ¥65,980.
$50 USD off PlayStation 5 Pro console

There will also be offers for PS5 accessories and games, including:

$50 USD off PlayStation VR2 and PlayStation VR2 Horizon Call of the Mountain Bundle
$30 USD off Pulse Explore wireless earbuds
$30 USD off DualSense Edge wireless controller
$20 USD off Access controller
$20 USD off DualSense wireless controller

darthv72276d ago

Both DoP 2018 and 19 had special themed PS4 slim. I have both and while they did not do them again in 20-24.... I was hoping they would bring it back in 25 with a special themed PS5 slim or even Pro.

repsahj276d ago

This is their way to counter Nintendo Switch 2 launch week. I might get the discounted annual premium subs, but I think the game lineup is weak.

Deathdeliverer275d ago

That games lineup is huge. It’s got new games on there and really good ones like Tekken 8. The PlayStation 5 being cheaper than the switch 2 is a counter in and of itself. Early adopters are early adopters. It will sell well, but not as good as the original switch. Not with that price and a far more capable machine with real online available for less. I think old Reggie said it best. Nintendo thrived on innovation and pushing new ideas. Not just rereleasing better versions of what it already had. The Wii was a massive success. The Wii U…. The 3DS was a big success, the DS XL… The switch huge success. The switch 2….. we will see.

Puty275d ago

So no deals for existing ps plus premium members?
