Bruce Straley Talks Third TLOU DLC

Naughty Dog's Bruce Straley gave some information on the third DLC for The Last of Us.

Yeah they teased the new game mode a few months back already in a blog post on their site. Guess it's some kind of extremely hard mode with limited (1 maybe) lives, or no checkpoints or no reload or something like that. Can't wait for it!!

I feel the old maps fit the player count of 4 on 4 perfect. The new maps that came with the Left Behind DLC are pretty big for 4 on 4. I feel like they can add the player count to 5 on 5 on the newer maps but then they would have to drop players if it went back to older maps so its understandable. Im really excited for the new DLC though, I just wished they added atleast infected to the team death matches, it would really put every player on their toes or atleast add a horde mode, that would fit in The Last Of Us perfect.

Yeah not having a infected MP mode and no co-op is a shame.

My wish for the PS4 version is 1080p and a locked 60fps, maybe an extra SP mission with more collectables in.

And the great MP with more maps and modes, If it's just 1080p@30fps and more polished visuals I will be pissed.

This masterpiece deserves to be redone properly.

Left Behind only has single player story content and was released February 14th.

Only DLC multiplayer maps were in the Abandoned Territories map pack that came out October 16th.

Yeah it was out before the Left Behind DLC came out but I thought those maps was part of the 1st DLC that included Left Behind DLC? I bought the season pass for $19.99. I just thought that those new maps which came before the Left Behind Single Player DLC was part of that DLC if im not mistaken.

There’s definitely some truth to this. When teams get too large, coordination starts to outweigh creativity—layers of approval, risk aversion, and tight deadlines can turn bold ideas into “safe” ones. Keeping a team under ~200 people sounds ideal for maintaining clear communication and a shared vision. That said, massive AAA projects also come with huge technical demands and expectations, so scaling up isn’t always avoidable. The real challenge is figuring out how to keep that small-team creativity alive inside big studio structures.

More than that, it's logistically untenable. Inevitably, when teams get too large, how do you keep tabs on accountability? I suspect this massive team size is a consequence of the perfectionism streak Naughty Dog has.

I wish we could have so many people working on something and it turns out great because I'm all for collaboration in spirit - the problem is too many people as part of the larger team and smaller units. Suppose for example that you have too many people in the art department; you will very often come up against fiercely competing visions for how things should look. That competitive vision will cause friction between team members, team doesn't work as a unit, the back and forth can further delay parts that the other departments are waiting for, etc etc.

A 200-person team says, to me, that we need to scale back game development. Even if it means we go back to PS2 era costs and scale, why not? Those games are still great fun, the budgets were in check, and you could literally break the 200-man team into like 10 20-man teams working on different projects.
