Nintendo's Big Secret

Shane Patterson reports:

''If you've been playing games long enough, you'll know that Nintendo loves to drip feed each of their systems with a "sequel" to an existing, beloved franchise. But something's different now. The Wii has released most big name titles within the console's relatively short 18-month span - Zelda, Metroid, Mario, Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Mario Party, WarioWare and hell, even Paper Mario.

It's no secret Nintendo is primarily aiming for a casual audience these days, but with most Wii games receiving piss poor reviews we're growing increasingly concerned about the hardcore gamers. History shows that a typical console life span can be 5-7 years, and if that's the case then we gotta wonder exactly what we should be excited for. According to Nintendo of America's president, Reggie Fils-Aime, we should be getting a glimpse of the Big N's big holiday game at this year's E3 in July. What can this secret game be? We've put together a list of the possible candidates for the Wii. Remember, these aren't actual games… yet. It's just speculation based on educated guesses. Behold!''

I've heard rumors that they've been hard at work on another Zelda. Maybe that?

jtucker786581d ago

The trouble with Zelda games (I am a big fan) is that they take so long to make. Nintendo never release them until they're perfect.

And besides I don't want another Zelda this generation. I want it to come out next when the next Nintendo is more powerful than the original XBox.

Zelda was largely about technology in the N64 days. It was a
Ocarina invented 3rd person targeting, huge -for the time- draw distances. AND immersion - made you feel like you were in a world that really existed.
Sure the game was fun, the controls were tight and the story was brilliant, but don't forget that the tech made people sit up and say "Wow!" no-one else is doing that.

How is Zelda supposed to take on games like Fallout 3, Oblivion, Mass Effect, Fable 2 with another gamecube / Wii Zelda.

We (Well I do) want more juice in my Zelda so she can retake her RPG crown.
Zelda with real physics based puzzles? Non midi based music?
Character voices? An immersive 5.1 Dolby Digital soundtrack and sound effects?
Real time on model shadows - so link can walk through a forest and the sun casts shadows of the leaves across his shoulders and green hat. (like in Uncharted).

There is no reason for the next Zelda not to have physics, the wii is perfectly capable of delivering. Also if you think about it, Ocarina is still a super fun game to play, even if the graphics aren't the best. I still find that it has that "something" about it that makes it truly special. Twilight Princess was awesome, but it didn't make me forget about Ocarina.

I think Nintendo should release another Zelda for the wii. Something that will take the wii to the limits in graphics, accuracy and immersion. I think it is possible, and I also think that top of the line hardware isn't required to deliver that. It would be nice, but I don't think it is a must.

StarFox would rock!!!!!!! Please take out all the ground missions, just leave the game 100% flying. Add some online and thats a system seller.

Create a new series with new characters and whatnot dammit.

I would love to see another F-ZERO.. with the same online as MARIO KART.. finally no RUBBER BANDING! The only F Zero i don't own/play is GX.. :-( and i own the SNES and n64 ones twice.. once as originals and ones as VC games cause its just easier..

Though Animal Crossing would be likely.. same with PIT.. though a new IP can be made.. though i think WII FIT could be considered a new IP..

heck maybe we'll get something like WII SPORTS 2.. which will have all the original sports plus new ones with ONLINE..

hell Nintendo gave us a lot of games already.. i'm glad they are making more.. i really am cause i remember back in the day when you had to wait AGES for a new good game to come out.. (before the internet was huge) and it always surprises me that everyone new all the secrets for these games with no guides and cheats.. hell i had Bomberman2 for my SNES and i accidentally found a cheat code.. 1 1 1 1 gave you all the awsome items when you started a new game..

now that i think about it.. just gimme DISASTER DAY OF CRISIS or PROJECT HAMMER!.. those are new IPs and i know they work.. b4 wii launched Project HAMMER was playable.. i remember the IGN guys talking about it in PODCAST.. having played it.. and Nintendo makes shiny games so i'm sure it would still look good.. :-)

washed my hands of Nintendo and their thug Reggie. which would fit Xbox or PS but Nintendo picked him he is the opposite of Mario or any of the dreamy fruity characters Nintendo has.

And why is that? if you don't mind my asking...

I actually want to know why you feel that way about him.

Crazy to think the WII is to the Switch 2, as the NES was to the WII back then. 20 Year difference.

My wife asks me to bust it out (heh) everyone once in a while to play bowling and tennis with the kids. There was a ton of slop on it but some good stuff as well.

Wii was great but boy howdy did it cause Microsoft to go on a dark walk with the Kinect and the disastrous XBox One launch that they arguably never recovered from.

Not nostalgic for me.. I was there.. anyone who wasnt a little kid realized it was a gamecube with shit tacked onto it, it was the "joke" system and was well below even the switch in terms of comparing it to the latest machines at the time. The machine was well loved by young people and "casual gamers" who now remember it 20 years on, or in most cases more of its sales came in the 15-20 years ago range not right at launch- but again its not nostalgic for people who were "gamers" then really, just for those who ended up with one in their house, the games , graphics, interface and online features were archaic already in 2006.

I enjoyed both Rush games, I did think the action was sometimes too fast to see what was coming up in terms of hazards though, which meant replaying the same stage a bunch of times, other than that they were enjoyable, good special stages, 3D sections and bosses for the most part.

DS is one of the best consoles of all time. Such a rich library of software
Zelda were all glorious on it.
