When Chris Redfield laced his boots to go search for the missing Bravo team nearly ten years ago, few could have imagined where he'd end up. With Umbrella's coffin nailed firmly shut, and Leon's battle against the Las Plagas resulting in a fairly successful conclusion, Chris' fourth outing sees him squaring off against a brand new virus deep within Africa. In an interview with Japanese mag Famitsu, Chief Producer Jun Takeuchi explained why the action's moved to a new continent. "We settled on the fact that we wanted to show the origins of the virus. So for the setting we thought, how about using the place where humankind was born?"
The key word here is 'virus'. Although the enemies may look like Ganados, there's no parasite to blame this time. Resident Evil 5 takes place in an anonymous country (naming it would only serve to exacerbate issues of racial controversy that arose from last year's extended trailer) somewhere along the Eritrean/Ethiopian/Kenyan line of active volcanoes.

Circana data shows Resident Evil 5 as the best selling Resident Evil game in the US, ahead of Resident Evil 4 remake and Village.
So the most successful RE is the one where a white man is killing Africans.
This can't be real.

New leaks from Dusk Golem detail cancelled Resident Evil projects, including a Rebecca focused Revelations game, while stating no Resident Evil 5 remake is in development.
Capcom's willingness to invest in experiments and scrap them sets them apart form many other developers (Nintendo have a similar methodology). Far too often companies push a game setting or game mechanic that is just not that good and the final product is middling or poor.

Dusk Golem claims a Resident Evil 5 remake is not coming this year, with a Code Veronica remake expected instead.
Hopefully if and when they do a RE5 remake, they give it the RE3 remake treatment, because this is certainly one title that I don't want a faithful remake of.
Co-op , more open ended, the ability to duck and dive and playable
flashback sequences..2009 is the year of resident evil
Great, we finally get co-op but it is online... I hope they have a splitscreen set up as well...
The virus originated from volcanoes? Fair enough... Really looking forward to this though. It wont have the scare tactics of the first few Resi games, but it'll be a whole different kind of fear when they're swarming you from all sides and you're trapped. Roll on 2009.
I knew they'd implement it from the 1st time I played resident evil ZERO.
RE5+split screen coop. I would masturbate to this game.
