''The recent release of Thief has brought with it some of the most varied and odd reviews of a video game in recent times. The reception was been truly mixed. Actually, to be more precise, it’s all over the place, with some critics claiming the game is an utter mess while others heap on the praise. Naturally it begs the question: how much did each reviewer play the game, and were they aware of what kind of game Thief would be beforehand.''

From outer space to stealing in Europe, The Epic Games Store has two free games you might like.

The Thief game series has had many ups-and-downs, and 2014's reboot showed a great deal of promise nearly a decade ago.
This would be such a great franchise to reboot. A darker game than Dishonored, but focused around stealth and large scale heists from an oppressive monarchy.
That's probably my dream game. I love immersive sims and stealth!
The last one was a trainwreck and has been in the bargain bin since just after launch. If they bring it back, they need a massive change in direction.
Jesus the last installment sells at about 2 euro and even that is over paying for it. Absolutely diabolical game

The online retailer Fanatical has not one but four new game bundles that should interest PC gamers.
Really looking forward to this game. Bought infamous ss on PlayStation store got $10 credit. During flash sale got this title and tomb raider definitive for $25 a price!! Pretty excited to finish my evil play through expert on ss so I can start theif.
Good read.
its ok if you make a mediocre game. but if you make a mediocre game, and have a franchise pasted on it that people know and love, expect some backlash. Imagine unimpressive game A. it might get reviews in the 7's. Now imagine if they somehow aquired the rights to Uncharted, or Gears of War. Now this not-entirely offensive game is taking a huge dump on one of your favorite series, and its gonna generate alot of hate. In the same way, licensed games are expected to suck, and thats why the Arkham series, and The Stick of Truth, got such praise. Sure, they're great games, but the expectations were so low with some people, that when it didn't compeletly blow, they called it a masterpeice. You'll never get rid of this bias, but its good to know its there.
I never played the originals, so this game probably wont offend me too much. I'll probably get theif outta the bargain bin...

...for a steal!

That's not what "begging the question" means. It "poses the question". It does not "beg the question".
The real problem with Thief, is that it was made with consoles in mind.
The PC classics, the PROPER Thief games, are where Thief is amazing. MASSIVE levels, non-linear, great stealth etc.
You get NONE of that in the new Thief. Why? Because the old hardware can't cope while updating the engine at the same time. So you have to make the maps smaller.
And why have to move a block of wood every time you go between areas? Because the hardware of consoles new and old can't handle a massive open level.
Consoles butchered this amazing series.
Thief is a PC classic and it should have stayed PC only.
