TNS - In a documentary, PlayStation's father Ken Kutaragi recalled how tinkering with an NES made him believe he could build something even better.
Sony approached SEGA and the Mega CD was born. After the Mega CD, SEGA declined a deal with Sony for a 32bit CD console, the Mega Drive 32X was born. Sony went along with the PlayStation or the Nintendo PlayStation.
I appreciate Nintendo’s money loving killing the deal. They didn’t want to give Sony any percentage of money from any games sold so Sony said f it we will make our own console.
yea, the nintendo cd attachment didnt quite work out and sony was like
"yea no lets make our own"
and it worked out for them big time.

Sony recently changed their leadership to Hideaki Nishino. Which is why they've cancelled the two live service game.
This is one of those things I never asked myself but immediately got curious about when I read the title. That's a pretty cool small bit of history.
