The PS4 Camera is optional, yet you can't find it anywhere.

The Kinect comes with every XBO, yet no one wants it.

Isn't it ironic?

Gozer4434d ago

@Tomshoe
People hate Kinect out of ignorance of what all the device can do. Or they are fanboys who just want something to rail on. I own an X1 and Kinect is a big part of what makes the console great. It not only gives voice control over your connected devices, but it comes with all the advantages a camera can bring. Skype is nice. The video editing in Upload Studio and Twitch are nice. I dare say most people would lose their hate for Kinect if they actually had some time with it.

HammadTheBeast4434d ago

@Tom

Reasonable price does wonders.

Ghoul4433d ago (Edited 4433d ago )

@tom
people hate kinect because

- price
- shift in attention from core games to casual games at ms
- mandatory online
- privacy concerns
- lack of support even though its the core of the console

thats about it

I was thinking the same. Plus I sort of want my Twitch career to take off, people need to see my ugly face.

parentoftheyear4434d ago

I would like to see it, is it like Sarah Jessica Parker, or more like Rocky Dennis....

JoGam4434d ago

Got a cam day one. So happy i did.

UltimateMaster4433d ago (Edited 4433d ago )

I saw the advantage with the PS Eye on PS3...
it had Games! Games I liked and optional controls on some games.

I did not buy the PS4 Camera because it had nothing appealing, at least until now. Even the game included in the camera does not give it justice to the PS Move technology.

VR headset is the best function the PS4 camera has to date, which was none beyond the game included with the camera.

3-4-54434d ago

PS4 camera = the new Wii ? lol jk

* They need to take that sculpting idea, and let us build our own towns and cities with it ?

Imagine an actual real life City sized City within a game created all by the players sculpting digital "clay" and other materials.

THAT IS WHAT I WANT

ifistbrowni4434d ago

Target and Gamestop both have them in online. I just ordered mine from target (since gamestop's is $10 overpriced).

Good luck. They sell fast.

KiLLUMiNATi_894434d ago

Despite all the ridicule the mass gave the #2 company in the world for kinect and now the fans of the #80 company in the world has seen the light.

I bought One at launch with my PS4. I think the PS camera has potential.

xer04434d ago

I'm still wondering what they are planning to do with the 4 microphone array on the camera.

Sony is just full of surprises :)

Soldierone4434d ago

I don't entirely understand why people are going nuts for it right at this moment. I haven't used mine since the day I got it...

T24434d ago

You should probably sell it then? it was 100 on ebay for a while

rdgneoz34434d ago

Some people/places are selling it for up to 3 times the retail price. Crazy.

raWfodog4434d ago

By a show of 'agrees' or 'disagrees', how many people here on N4G who own a PS4 also bought the camera?

TheTwelve4434d ago

I haven't bought the camera yet.

mantisimo4434d ago

Why the disagree if the twelve says he didn't buy it?

theXtReMe14434d ago

I'm waiting until they release an extension cable for it. I can't use it, because I use a projector set up and the projector and seats are 15 feet away from the screen.

AutoCad4434d ago

shouldnt of removed it from the system at E3.

TheTwelve4434d ago

Nah, good to keep it optional.

rdgneoz34434d ago

It was never mandatory to buy the camera. It's always been optional. And most people these days like options, not having stuff forced on them.

DVAcme4434d ago

Exactly. The fact that it's optional not only keeps the price of the system down, it also means that whoever has a camera, it's because he/she actually means to use it.

As for why people are buying it? One word: Twitch.

AutoCad4434d ago

It was planned to be mandatory, but SONY decided to remove it to make it cheaper once they heard the price of the xbox one.

DigitalRaptor4434d ago

@ AutoCad

Yet... you can't prove it.

AutoCad4434d ago

Yet you cant prove otherwise.

Outside_ofthe_Box4434d ago

@AutoCad @zeusky

http://www.businessspectato...

***"Sony's Masayasu Ito says US$399 was deemed "the magic price" for the PlayStation 4 – bringing it in US$200 cheaper than the PlayStation 3. Efforts were made to include the camera at the US$399 mark, but pressure from above forbade Sony Computer Entertainment from making too much of a loss on the PlayStation 4 hardware."***

Directly from the horse's mouth unlike IGN's "multiple sauces"

zeusky4433d ago

@Outside_ofthe_Box

just arguing over wording. the point is that "efforts were made to include the camera" and they decided otherwise to keep the price down.

Outside_ofthe_Box4433d ago (Edited 4433d ago )

^^^

I'm not arguing over wording. I'm arguing about the reason why it was dropped and when it was dropped.

The only thing that you and AutoCad are correct about is the fact that Sony wanted/considered making the camera come with every console sold. Other than that everything both of you guys said or linked to are false information, period.

Sony didn't decide to not include the camera in reaction to XB1's $500 pricing. That decision was made long before E3. $400 for PS4 was planned from the start as that was the "magic" price point to them. The only decision was whether or not they should bundle in the camera for free, but they decided not to because they wanted to minimize the loss on each console sold. Those are the truths and the facts. You guys need stop spreading misinformation.

MasterCornholio4434d ago (Edited 4434d ago )

Dont be stupid. Sony didn't decide at the last moment to remove the camera. You honestly believe that a few hours after the Xbox Ones price announcement Sony decided to drop the camera to lower the price? What happened was that Sony had a 399$ price point fixed for the console and the executives decided to drop the camera to reduce their losses. That's it.

@Digital

Your right he can't prove it. Just like he can't prove that Sony dropped DRM after the negative backlash that Microsoft received.

Hicken4434d ago

Shouldn't HAVE posted such an ignorant comment.

Kryptix4434d ago (Edited 4434d ago )

And where does it say the camera was going to be mandatory for the PS4?

Even Google isn't going to help you with that one.

There's no evidence to support that claim aside from the controller having the LED light, but we can see it like this; Sony could of put that in there to make people interested into buying the camera.

Either way, it's optional and not everyone's going to buy a VR headset so they won't be needing the camera, saving them money for something they aren't going to use. Which is what Microsoft should of done with the Kinect. I doubt everyone who bought an Xbox One is using it.

Devin9424434d ago

I agree. I understand that they wanted to undercut MS but they should push this camera and it's cab abilities more. It's not even close to kinects abilities but good enough, I guess.

yezz4434d ago (Edited 4434d ago )

I think Kinect has made the Xbox franchise too family friendly since the first one was revealed.

Sony is making the right decision to push proper gaming and now support the Project Morpheus. We are already seeing the difference with multiplatforms. Maybe they don't see the camera thing becoming anything major in the near future. Those movement games are something I could see in some TV app stores in the next few years but making the camera compulsory with the console is dumb...

T24434d ago

you mean xbox should have removed it from the system at e3

andy8512d ago

Lets be honest raising prices doesn't do that when no one's buying it. I imagine the profit it greater selling 10 times more at a lower price

Pergele12d ago

Whatever you say buddy, let's all wear the tinfoil hats.

IceKoldKilla12d ago (Edited 12d ago )

LMFAO Your comment alone says a lot more about you than anything else. When has one game not selling 10 million copies made a company raise the prices of their console? Then Xbox would be costing $5000 by now lol. You remind of the crazy drug addicts on the street rambling on about conspiracies. xD You sure you don't need a hug, buddy?

ChunkyMonk11d ago

One game that Sony payed $200 million for. lol
Also, you sure were quick to get triggered. Maybe your the one who needs a hug?

If nothing else, we should be united against the real issue here. AI and unnecessary tariffs that are effecting all gamers.

Athlon10112d ago (Edited 12d ago )

The price increases are due to the RAM demand associated with AI and the US-Iran war. You can look to any business news website and local news to see that. Heck, even the 2026 Asus Zenbook Duo I've been eyeing has faced delays and has had a price increase of $400; that laptop has two specs. Asus is doing a staggered release with per-orders for the lower spec now and shipping in May and pre-orders for the higher spec that I'm eyeing starting in June. Basically, all computer manufactures are affected. It'll most likely start affecting smart phones too if it hasn't already. I can't remember the last time any major console maker (Nintendo, Sony, Sega, etc) increased the price of their console mid cycle outside of Microsoft just to make more profit.

S2Killinit11d ago

Its not the war. Its the RAM issue.

jznrpg11d ago

War is causing gas prices to rise. Transport of everything requires gas so the prices of those items go up as well. So it does have an impact

Athlon10111d ago (Edited 11d ago )

The blockage of the Straight of Hormuz due to the US-Iran war has affected raw components used in semi-conductor manufacturing such as bromine, aluminum, and helium. Iran had attacked the liquified natural gas (LNG) plant in Qatar which is a large producer (1/3 globally) of helium which is used in semiconductor etching. So it's the both the war and the RAM crises.

badz14912d ago

Oh no...should I get the Pro now before the price increase?

I dont think that'll ever happen. But i must say back in the day, they were definitely trying because they were more cash rich than their competitors.

CosmicTurtle25d ago

I think MS were and still are the richer company. They tried to acquire Sega back in the day (and considered doing so again more recently), they obviously bought exclusivity to Halo which was originally shown as a Mac title. I don’t think as a company MS can claim the moral high ground here. It’s a wilful lack of self awareness.

Of course Sony would try exactly the same if they had the resources, but when the PS2 dominated the industry was in a much healthier place with an abundance of great third parties.

This has been a depressing generation as far as first party decisions are concerned. The fact we are debating business plans rather than which game is better is a sad reflection of the state of things.

Darkseeker25d ago (Edited 25d ago )

There was Nintendo as well, Sony wouldn't have had a monopoly. In fact, the world would be better today if Xbox never existed in the first place. They pretty much brought all bad practices we have today. We might have gotten all of it either way, but not this early. In term of franchises, I don't think there is anything Microsoft released that would actually be missed if it didn't exist. Even Halo the world wouldn't notice if Halo didn't exist.

S2Killinit25d ago

MS was definitely a bad influence on gaming.

raWfodog25d ago

I think almost everyone will agree that a monopoly is not good for the industry. But that being said, the competition needs to be smart and strategic with their business. Simply buying up publishers and traditional third-party studios just to keep them out of the other companies reach is not a sustainable practice. That goes for all parties so don't think I'm just referring to Xbox.

I'm no business guru by any stretch of the imagination but I firmly believe that the best way to drive consumers to your software and hardware is to invest smart in your first-party studios. Give them full support and guidance in making unique, fun games that are only available to play in your ecosystem and the gamers will come.

Reaper22_25d ago (Edited 25d ago )

But first party studios aren't enough. They only make up a small portion of the industry. Without 3rd party there would be no industry for Microsoft or sony.Developing games take time and money and sometimes you gotta make moves to stay competitive.

raWfodog25d ago

Nah, I never said first-party was enough. I said it’s the ‘best way’ to drive gamers to your platform. 3rd-party is a free-for-all and there’s no guarantee that gamers will use your hardware to play the game. If you want to push your own software and/or hardware you need first-party, or at least exclusive deals with third-party studios.

SimpleDad25d ago

They Shure did a great job... 25 years later Xbox is dead.

Reaper22_25d ago

Then why be so emotional and continue to talk about it. Xbox will never die be ause it stays in so many people's head.

lodossrage25d ago

How can you even see him being "emotional" in that comment?

If anything, you're the emotional one, constantly trying to go at anyone that says anything against Microsoft. So when you call him emotional, it comes off as deflection

Elda25d ago

I own an XBSX & I can say it's becoming irrelevant out of the 3 current consoles.
