what? the strong titles are just being released, if they think that with one title (Haze) Sony just finished their lineup, they need to think again.

does have a lot of variety in their lineup. They have games that cover most of the genres for both the casual and hardcore crowd. Plus they will probably be showing some more titles at E3.

Gears of War 2 will probably be one of the top sellers this Holiday Season. Well known IP's move consoles and I think that Gears 1 sold over 5 million copies.

Microsoft has done a great job in adding diversity to the 360 lineup, especially in the RPG genre. There weren't many RPGs for the original Xbox.

I do agree there is one game I want from the PS3 and that's Metal Gear.... but things do not look like 2008 is the year of the PS3 as everyone predicted... for this to be the year of the PS3... that means that games should be floading and the xbox 360 would have no games that can match it...

people are betting too much on Metal Gear.. when in reality anyone that follow the IP since it was first released on NES... know that that's not a mainstream game... and though metal Gear 3 on PS2 had over 120,000,000 installbase the game only sold 3-4 million copies... not even close to Gears 1 only when the xbox 360 had a installbase of 11-12 million? never did metal gear break any record in sells... nor sold dramatically... but hey let's pretend that it will this time.

2008 was supposed to be year of the PS3, thats what Sony and it's Droids said in 2007 when MS won the year in games. Almost June and Sony still has nothing on it's plate and those gamers are getting hungry. Funny the Playstation brand went from King to Court Jester, while their crown has been split up between Microsoft and Nintendo, Nintendo with console sales and Microsoft with games. My bad the PS3 does have the crown for being a $600 DVD player.

As for the article - its a pretty reasonable read, though I laughed at the guy not being able to understand the LSD reference - typical marketeer, such humor would fly right above his head.

Despite the corporate posturing and the pages of debate on sites like this one, its not just first party titles that determine a companies presence in the 'real world' of the average consumers mind, and they couldn't care less if a title is first , second or third party at all.

However, really big titles that ARE exclusive, do have the opportunity to make an impression. MGS is an obvious example of an exclusive that can make a real difference, GOW 2 is another fine example, and those two are the biggest this year.

Of the other 360 first party titles:
Fable 2 will be personal fave if it delivers more than the first, but I don't see it as a big system seller. A third party title like Fallout 3 is likely to have more of a draw.

Whilst I'm interested, Banjo is not what a lot of people want, and simply won't sell many units. Its certainly not going to be the title that brings the casual market to the machine.

Similarly, the new Viva piñata has a limited appeal and won't shift the units it deserves (though I'll grab it and enjoy it.)

Too human looks beautiful, and I'm hopeful the story will above the usual games drivel, but at the end of the day its no more than hack and slash button masher, or stick twiddler in this case, with some RPG elements tacked on. It could still fail with the critics, but more importantly, it doesn't have enormous pulling power.

NG2. Again a great game for the hardcore, and one I'll personally enjoy, but it has limited pulling power and previous iterations haven't exactly lit up the charts with their sales.

Despite his comments on Sony games slipping into next year, I'm only aware of KZ2? none of the other big hitters out next year were ever touted as coming this year? But there are several titles on the 360 side that have slipped. Alan Wake continues to look like vaporware and we were all counting on Halo Wars for this year - I want another RTS fix!

So, I'm happy enough with some the titles I'm going to be playing on 360 this year, but I'd contend theres not lots, and I'm very glad I've got a PS3 as well.

If you look at multi plats - the two machine look quite balanced, and choice may be determined by the one or two big pulling titles.
MGS will shift a ton of units and GOW2 will shift a ton of units, but you can also guarantee that resistance 2 will sell well and Socom has always sold more than I would expect (its not a fave of mine).

Either way, real gamers have all machines and have fun with all games. Those looking to purchase just one machine this year, are going to see the line ups looking pretty even IMHO.

MS is seeing their sales drop below Sony's and now they are talking smack to gain press. Sadly enough to say, the people are voting on who's year it is by their purchase of the PS3 over the 360. Since last November the PS3 has outsold the 360 worldwide. Now with great games out and on the horizon, the PS3 is taking this year for its own. If Shane wishes that Sony take next year too then so be it. I'm sure Sony didn't need his approval for it but the reiteration is a nice touch for Shane.

Only 3 of these games are heavy hitters, and 2 of those 3 or going pc.

Look at PS3 - Resistance 2, Motorstorm 2, Siren, Tekken 6, Socom, The Agency, MGS4, LBP.

This is a lineup has alot more variety.

Yes, the 360 has got a great variety games coming out this year a a few of them will sell alot of copies.

But good as they are, just like last year, they aren't going to sell alot of consoles.

Only that the noisy ones about their "fantastic 2008 lineup" has been Sony and their fans. Microsoft has barely mentioned their lineup until recently in their Spring Showcase and Kim is right. For the look of things, it seems that this will be another Microsoft year in terms of Software.

So far it's looking to me like next year's Sony lineup beats the pants off of Microsoft's, but that's because Microsoft doesn't really seem to have much lined up for next year yet except a couple of new IPs like Alan Wake and perhaps Huxley if that ever comes out. Tales of Vesperia is the only other 2009 exclusive I can think of right now for the 360, but I'm sure I'm forgetting something.

Either way, though, 2009 has Killzone 2, God of War 3, and probably Final Fantasy XIII on the Sony front, and that seems like an impressive set to me. There are just a ton of games we know are in the works for PS3 that won't make it until 2009 or later, so I think the post-2008 lineup for PS3 is looking really full and impressive, but I just don't see much there for the 360 after 2008.

I'm personally really excited for InFamous on the PS3, big fan of Sucker Punch. I bet that'll hit in 2009 and be pretty excellent.

360 has a couple of games that we know very little about, from new IPs and developer's with no real pedigree, so I can't very well get excited about them, but perhaps they'll turn out to be good. Like: Theseis, The Precursors, Dog Tag(?), and Shadowclan.

That's actually all I could find. 4 games that are all new IPs from third-parties with little or no reputation, plus Huxley, an MMO that seems to never come out, Alan Wake, another new IP we've seen little of, and Tales of Vesperia (which I'm greatly looking for ward to).

So At The Moment, I see no reason to think that the 360 can compete with PS3's lineup in 2009, which has some impressive heavy-hitters coming from established developers, in established IPs, etc.

And what if it does? He actually is right, GT5 and KZ2 first were said to come in 2008. They're not. The only other good (new) IP is LBP, Resistance won't make it compared to Gears 2, because a chainsawgun, this time with a lot of different moves, just sells better, more blood, more fun!

They talk like this will be the year they will dominate everyone else. Sorry but I don't see it that way, as a 360 owner Gears 2 seems like the only appealing game so far for this year. In terms of business GEoW 2 will sell a lot of copies but it isn't going to be a system seller because the primary demographic for that game already owns a 360 console and will just buy the game. At this point Microsoft needs something fresh and creative to push hardware rather than hashing sequels to games that only appeal the hardcore crowd.

Fable 2 looks promising but again it think it will make people go out and buy a system just to play. Same thing with Banjo and Kazooi.

The hardware numbers for the 360 this year have leveled off and not much different YTD from last year so that isn't worth bragging about especially since you are approching 4th holiday season in the lifetime of a console and have yet to reach mass market appeal.

MGS4 better live up to the fuking hype Sony fans, or the slaughter in here will be out of this world. You guys have been talking so much sh1t in here, coming into neutral topics and messing it up. Buy three copies if you have to, seriously. It better move consoles and sell at least as much as gta4 or GeOW in the same time frame.

The only 2 games that honestly look worth buying as of now is Gears 2 and NG 2. But those 2 games can even be rentals depending on how long they are and how good the online is for gears 2. Other than that i really dont see any games that i would spend 67 bucks on or go out to buy a 360 for.

I'd be really scared if i was MS.. How do they expect to compete with MGS4, Resistance 2, little big planet, home, Motorstorm, gt5, final fantasy, killzone 2 (even if it does suck it will sell well), god of war 3, and the list goes on.

All right I'll admit Gears of War 2 is a good game but Microsoft needs more than just that game if they can hope to challenge the PS3's line up.
Ninja Gaiden 2 is the same as the first maybe a little bit better graphically but that's it.

Understand the only reason why Gears sold so much is one install base and two Microsoft didn't have competition when they released Gears so I find it false that Gears 2 will have the same appeal as the first.
Don't get me wrong just like Halo this game will sell crazy copies but seeing that Resistance 2 is coming out at the same time plus the rest of Sony's exclusive line up I don't think people will just focus only on that game.
I hear Resistance 2, Killzone 2, Project Offset, Eight Days, MGS4, etc. more than I hear about this title.

MGS4 is actually now a bigger hit than Gears 2 imo. MGS4 is the end of a series ppl! It's Sony's big hit and it'll be big you can't possibly doubt that.

2008 and 2009 are the years of the PS3. This is the year that the PS3 beats the 360 in online functionality with Home and the community-focused LBP released as a close tie-in in the Autumn. Next year I can see the PS3 pushing the bar higher and moving ahead graphically as Killzone 2 has showcased already (Way before release).

Microsoft stop with the whining and publicity-grabbing insults and focus on fixing a few of the things you've given the public, namely Vista stability (Needs work, although game support is a bit better now), the 360 (Redesign the console with more space for ventilation and better cooling to prevent overheating and RROD problems, can't believe you can't see that that's the problem! Not chip size lol).

As for Sony, the ball is in your court for quite a few months ahead don't drop it. Get Home stabilised and out, get the 2.40 igXMB firmware out to shut ppl up lol and make sure MGO servers don't get overly busy again :)

Ok this may sound kinda biased, and I apologize if I offend anyone in advance, but how can Microsoft really brag about games like Banjo Kazooie or Viva Pinata? These games " To me " are very childish, and really wouldn't interest the average gamer that is in his 20's to 30's which is a big core group of gamers. Don't get me wrong, Sony does the same thing with similar games, and I'm not placing this all on MS, but c'mon you can't categorize those games along other hot titles like Gears2 and Ninja Gaiden2, they look very weak. Here's a question, MS approaches you and says " Congratulations, you have won a chance to play one of these hot new exclusive titles, which will it be Banjo Kazooie or Gears2? " I have a funny feeling the majority will choose Gears2 cause it appeals to a more consistent gamer who would drain hours of gameplay on that specific console.

The reason alot of great titles like KZ2 are being pushed back to 09 is because of the cannabasism effect of say, Resistance 2, lil big planet, and socom confrontation + having KZ2 being realsed in the same fall shopping season. The key to the microsofts success is that what ever console comes out first that looked next generation is the winner nothing else matters.

That means who cares if it moves like last generation just as long as it comes out first and sells it large numbers. Why because developers only care about money they could care less about a true next gen game.

That is why the ps3 isn't succeeding as it should if it came out first and it was powerful we would of had true next gen games. But we do not instead we have games that only look good in magazines and move just like last generation. Developers also see that americans own twice as many 360's so they are after that money once they release there game.

Same thing is going to happen again by the time ps3 catches up with its 3 or 4 year beautiful games the next xbox will be out. But the best thing about the next console war is that the wii2 may just be next gen and sell out sony and microsofts systems. In my opinion the 360 is the worst system since nintendo and its even worse that is successful and people defend it.

I hope im wrong and PS3 fans get a good set of games but whenever they throw their list of games at 360 owners im rarely impressed. Im in the position whereby i have some spare cash and im thinking of buying another console but its always a case of "upcoming games" rather than existing ones with the PS3. I hate saying this sort of nonsense but, yet again, im looking at a 360 topic filled with PS3 fans trying to put down MS and the 360. I have to be honest, from the Amiga 500 through to Mega Drive, Snes, N64, PS2 and Xbox (and more) the 360 has possibly given me the most enjoyment.
