Game writers need to stop trivializing sexual violence for the sake of "mature" stories.

Last I checked, murder is wrong yet it's trivialised in most shooters... should that stop as well?

My question is, if there's going to be a line... where do you draw? because we can't stop one thing and let others slide.

my personal take on all of this is don't take what you see in computer games seriously.

Games like murder is not used as a crutch for maturity. Because even games that aren't rated M feature murder. Remember Jak 2 and Jak 3? The same cannot be said for rape, which is usually used by lazy/untalented writers in order to make make their stories seem mature and well written. Video game writing is not nearly as well written as films are, they aren't even as well written as tv shows. People like David Cage and more recently Kojima need to stop trying to include rape in their stories as a character development tool in their sad attempts to make video games resemble film as MUCH as possible. Rape is a crutch for maturity just like how Alice in Wonderland like environments and situations is a crutch for surrealism. It's lazy.

Some people seem to have a hard time distinguishing the difference between real life and made up stories, these kinds of people that complain just because they can annoy me. I don't think anything at all should be out of bounds when it comes to games, fiction and movies, it's not real and does not harm anyone that is stable enough mentally to know the difference between make believe and real life

No, no, the "violence is okay so why isn't sex/sexual violence" defence is based on completely broken logic. In a shooter or action game, violence is the point, it makes sense both in context and within the game's internal logic. Shooters and action games star soldiers, professionals or sometimes even villains who kill for a living or to survive. Violence, even murder, makes absolute sense here.

Sexual violence or just plain sexual exploitation, however, is typically just thrown into the mix by lazy hacks, shock jocks or those who want to make a quick buck. Usually it makes no sense in context whatsoever and seems forced in.

HOWEVER, I thought that Tomb Raider scene was actually handled well. Nothing overt, but your imagination went to dark places. Plus, this article is full of TERRIBLE examples.

"I wouldn’t say I was shocked when I first learned that Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes would contain a scene of graphic sexual violence"

Did you even play the game game? Because no it didn't.

Movies, Games, Books etc these cannot be or should not be censored as they are based on the real world.

...Unfortunately the real world is a very sick place, and censoring does not change anyone's behaviour. Murder, assault and violence were prevalent long before the mighty pen, film or pixel was invented.

I am against the inclusion of violence for the sake of violence in any medium though. It's inclusion has to make sense. Example would be TLOU, that makes sense.

Most 'Religions' are against violence, but the 'Bible' for example is full of violence, sexual repression and murder. It's one of the scariest books I ever read, and Children are encouraged to read it. Leave our Video Games alone!!

What a silly article, it isn't trivialised because it's still seen as shocking. What is acceptable in video games is merely catching up to what has been allowed in movies for many years

I know a lot of gamers who are adults. So playing a game with mature themes are welcome .it creates dialog that otherwise was not there .as taboo the subject may be it sheds light and thought to what happens in our society. So we learn to protect and prevent such atrocities. Movies and games bring knowlegde to some people who other wise would know nothing. About any particular adult subject. Bravo to the game devs who open our minds and create these masterpieces.
