Abit early to declare victory seeing as we don't know how much it is going to cost yet!

Who cares about the cost at this point. I'd rather hear some hands on impressions first.

IRetrouk4448d ago

There are a few about, ign and others have already posted their views on it.

koliosis4448d ago

Hopefully it won't be costly

Masterh0ppa4448d ago

"Got my ps 4 at launch. last weekend I got the xbox one.. And the xbox one is really a pretty cool machine. Got alot of fun with it. Don't know why ppl are bitching about it.. ps 4 is just graphics.. xbox is way more then that. I'm enjoying both consoles but the ps 4 will be where I will play only exclusives.. and pc and xbox for the multiplats.. #31

So did you get it at launch or like 2 months later? The trolling with this kid is unbelievable.

This is one of the beauties of Sony's VR. The extra peripherals to enhance the experience dont cost much at all. PS Move only cost $20 and PS Eye only cost $60.

In my opinion, that is not a beauty, it's a hindrance.. It leaves too many variables and questions for both developers and consumers..

For developers, can they comfortably make a VR gaming experience that only uses the headset?.. How much will that experience differ from if the player has the camera and a move controller?.. What if they have two move controllers?.. How do developers know if the consumer has the correct combination of of VR headset, camera, and move controllers to properly experience their game?.. Do developers take the gamble of adding the additional immersion that comes along with having the camera and two move controllers (which means extra time and resources) or do they go "bare bones" and assume the customer only has the VR headset?.. How does the lightbar on the dualshock 4 play into all of this?.. So far, the PS4 Camera has a 15% attach rate to PS4s, we have no idea how many PS4 owners have two move controllers, and at a potential price of $300 the VR headset is sure to have an even lower attach rate than the PS4 Camera.. How can developers confidently get behind these numbers and issues with wholehearted support?..

for the consumer, we're talking about a headset that is going to potentially cost $300.. Now I have to go out and spend an additional $100 on a camera and two move controllers in order to get the "full experience"?.. This is on top of the $400 cost of the PS4 itself and we haven't even mentioned the purchase of a game yet.. For a new buyer that's interested in VR gaming on the PS4, they are possibly looking at a minimum investment of $800 before they even buy a game.. That's a HUGE cost barrier..

combine these two very real concerns and I can't see how anybody can really think the PS4 VR headset is going to be a commercial success.. The tech is awesome but I have my doubts about it's actual adoption commercially..

Are a bunch of games, some of which are nearly 10 years old not one being from 2026. Barely one from 2025.

I do like the irony of the closing paragraph though, "Why VR Adventure Games are Thriving". Really buddy?

mooreneco2142d ago

That’s because it’s his favourite VR adventure games thus far, a great game always a great game regardless of age - Half life 2/ Ocarina of time - are old but still among the greatest games of all time. The irony of it is several are from last year, depending on platform, have you even played VR?
