Unity 5 Announced

Unity Technologies has revealed a successor to their flourishing game engine, fittingly titled Unity 5. This massive update will feature a “completely overhauled audio system”, physical shaders, and advanced real-time lighting. Furthermore, an advertising feature used for cross-promoting other mobile games will be included. Unity also plans to add support for the WebGL graphics API, which will allow for fully optimized development for games to be played in web browsers.

I'm gonna be sad if the physically-based rendering stuff is only for Unity Pro.

It most likely will be :/

I'm just personally hoping for an expanded interface and options when it comes to importing rigs into the system. Sick of creating one rig for animating and a separate one with the handles stripped off for importing; cumbersome to say the least.

A little bit. I'm more of a graphics/animation guy.

Still not very impressed at how quickly they dropped support for Unity 3 after 4 launched. And now here comes 5! After you spend thousands on the pro license and then thousands more for the pro license for Android and iOS, even with the discount they offer it still sucks that you have spend thousands more just to keep those up to date every two years.

It would be different if you could keep using the old Unity and still deploy your game builds, but changes to iOS and Android sdk's inevitably end up rendering Unity useless for mobile developers fairly quickly.

But I just got to grips with the big 4.3 update. Nooooooooooo! Good signs for the engine though.

Unity 5 can't wait for consoles to experience Unity 5.
