Suddenly, Microsoft Actually Cares About PC Gaming

If it wasn't for Microsoft, it's possible PC gaming wouldn't exist: Just about every PC gamer relies on Windows -- the majority of PC games aren't available on alternative operating systems like OSX or Linux.

RIP_Cell4447d ago

nonsense, PC gaming is mostly on Windows because most PCs run Windows, if Windows doesn't exist and a different OS takes its place then PC gaming will be on that OS

Mystogan4446d ago (Edited 4446d ago )

Except it would be much worse. PC gaming performance still is best on Windows 8(.1)

Not even the "Gaming oriented" SteamOS can beat it.

You just can't beat Microsoft at software.

christocolus4447d ago

They should...they started there its only right they continue supporting it but no at the expense of console gaming though...cos i still want a lot of support for my xbx one...lol

Eonjay4446d ago

This is because AMD and Nvidia had threatened to reduce the relevance of Direct X by releasing their own API with low level support.

The GDC AMD/Microsoft panel will expain how DirectX 12 can incorporate low level APIs. Lets hope that DirectX 12 will not require a brand new GPU as the new R9 and R7 models aren't old at all and Nvidia has brand new GPUs of its own. DirectX must be backwards compatible or else there will be an uproar.

Geoff9004446d ago

MS have been working on DX12 for some time, just so you know.

ninjahunter4446d ago (Edited 4446d ago )

Well, after an OS that actually damaged sales, and Valve saying "Fix it, or were taking the OS industry" I think that they might actually start stepping up their game.

WeAreLegion4446d ago

If all Steam games worked on Steam OS, I wouldn't even use Windows. Open Office works on Linux just fine.

Geoff9004446d ago

Never going to happen, games and Windows aren't the only thing MS do by the way.

So unless Valve start making server software, business, software creation suites, I wouldn't take that threat too seriously.

Revvin4446d ago

Lol yeah right because Microsoft are the only server software developers out there, the whole world runs on Microsoft right?

Mystogan4446d ago

Hahahahahahahaha "Fix it or we're taking the OS industry"

Valve being funny xD

Xristo4446d ago

They care so much that they leave it to third-party developers to create X1 controller drivers for Windows.

Geoff9004446d ago

Takes time to create drivers, because the way the controller has to be connected, do you use a dongle? or USB cable, or Wifi Direct?

The driver that guy created, works okay'ish it doesn't work on quite a lot of games.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing18d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9218d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit18d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing18d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9218d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
