Titanfall a success, despite terrible resolution

"Resolutions such as 720/792/900p are sadly now a common thing on Microsoft’s next-gen console Xbox One. While the games aren’t necessarily worse then the ones available on the competition’s consoles, a true gamer will surely notice the big difference between a HD standard and full-hd (1080p)… especially if they play on wide screen TV."

People like mudding the water when a game they prefer comes under fire! It's an age old tactic that even children have mastered! Find a negative point to argue against the opposition, to make your imperfections not seem so obvious.

Like the saying goes,"So easy, a child can do it!", but in this instance TitanFall may be a success depending on how you view it, but it's definitely not without its flaws, and multiple entities are associated with those flaws! EA, Respawn and yes Microsoft.

Well let's just look here .... killzone 960x1080 (on MP) vs titanfall 792x1408

Titanfall has a higher res, more AI (killzone capped at 24, titanfall 50+), giant mechs, with explosions and secondary AI, runs at a higher framerate avg than kz (tf 51, kz 47, both do drop though) and larger maps. Titanfall uses msaa, while KZ only uses txaa. Titanfall expects to increase the resolution on XB1. Lastly, look about the same.

@imt .... 1080p output sure, 1080p every other frame sure. But the frame buffer, of each, and hence the general strain implied by those are 960x1080 vs 792x1408

@imt just because you want that to be the case it simply isnt, 960x1080 is 1080i .... it is commonly known 720p and 1080i are about equal, each having some advantages. But regardless both require the same pixel fill rate. 792p is more stressful for the hardware. No ifs ands or buts about it. It is fact. You can prefer whatever you want doesn't change that fact. 1.03 million pixels per frame vs 1.12 million pixels per frame.

I take peoples word at the specs , ill I know is one game (Titanfall) I cant get enough of, the other game (killzone) I REALLY tried to like but sent it back to gamefly 2 days later....

So tell me, i have high-end TV (50 inch HX850 actually ) and i didn't saw difference in sharpness between SP and MP in KZ. Why isn't upscaled?

This temporal 1080p is great solution, especially for Xbone because that console is troubling with 1080p or 900p or 792p.

NOPE, sorry for playing. Temporal 1080 is bad for multiplayer because it has ghosting/artifacting with fast motion, which is exactly what Killzone MP is. Upscaled 900P would have been preferred. Slightly less detail, but a true Progressive image.

killzone mp is not 1080p theres only one definition of 1080p last time i checked guerilla games cant go around redefining words i bet if this was done by ms it would be bigger lie or pr spin by ms, the game is selling and its more fun than anything killzone, why hate ? why bring up resolution? no i dont care about resolution on a certain level. if resolution doesnt matter why not keep playing ps2 or super nintendo? Because halo 5 isnt going to super nintendo or ps2 or xbox or gamecube, ryse isnt on xbox 360 .

More of your xbone fanBoys delusion. First thing is that Killzone Sf multiplayer is in full 1080p 60fps not upscaled, frame buffing or interlaced neither. No it's in full 1080p it's used a different techniques to accomplish it's A technical named Temporal Reprojection . It basically take half of a old frame and combine it with a newly render frame. This takes less time than rendering a whole new frame. But the frame is rendered in full 1080p. The biggest problem is that the people who are saying that Killzone Sf mp is not in 1080p don't know what 1080p is. 1080p is the amount of pixels displayed on the screen at any one time. That means that 1080p is 2,000,000 pixels. What you are confused by this upscale resolution is blow-up Or stretching of a smaller pictures To a large image. This is better than upscaled resolution Digital Foundry's original article, Leadbetter praised the technique.

"The fact that few have actually noticed that any upscale at all is in place speaks to its quality, and we can almost certainly assume that this effect is not cheap from a computational perspective," he said.

It's also a fact that GG don't not lie about using Temporal Reprojection Back In November the 4th 2013, Michiel v.d. Ludwig spoke about TSSAA (Temporal Super Sample Anti-Aliasing). “We use FXAA + TMAA now, will dig deeper in a future publication, but it does complement each other”. Suffice to say, he’d previously spoken about the usage of the previous frame of animation to create the Temporal Super Sample Anti Aliasing.

So pointless bickering about resolution, when Titanfall wins where it matters in being a better game decided by critics (and by me), but also because Azure cloud ensures dedicated server for every game with 15ms for many.

Titanfall wins where it matters, in game experience, not in stupid resolutions. You can have you resolution, I will take the game experience!

You're comparing two different ways of displaying something KZ is 1080i and TF is 792p. KZ looks like 1080p because the frame rate is around 50, so the interlayed frames look like a whole frame, even when it isn't. So it gives the illusion of 1080p. Therefore resolution wise to the eye KZ>TF

Off topic: I think TF has the better gameplay. (Opinion) and KZ better graphics and asterics (opinion)

It's such a success that MS/EA haven't been able to announce a million sold yet.

Maybe we could wait to make articles about how successful Titanfall is until we actually know that it is a success. This is an EA game afterall; there's no way that it has made more than overhead until it has reached at LEAST a million sold.

Wholeheartedly agree! One thing we know about Microsoft, they have no qualms about touting when they're excelling in an area! Even when boasting about how many headshots were made in a game.

The only thing that they've bragged about was that "hundreds of thousands" of people were playing, and he didn't even mean simultaneously. So, what? 200,000? 900,000? How many people bought the game, MS? And how does it break down between platforms?

Killzone's campaign is 1080p native, so I'm not sure what you mean LOL. Who cares what the multiplayer resolution is, performance is what matters most in matches. The game doesn't render the horizontal pixels in multiplayer but there is no upscale happening so technically it's still 1080p.

Technically it is NOT 1080p. But whatever. Very simple. Is the resolution in single player 1080p? Yes. Is the multiplaye rresoultion the same? No. They couldnt' do 1080p with the multiplayer. The simple fact that you have to try and argue that it is 1080p means its not 1080p.

Anyhow, Killzones multi should be compared to Titanfall, because Titanfall is multiplayer only. Killzone looks better graphically, they both suffer from non 60FPS. Titanfall has bigger maps and vehicles. It's somewhat even between them. Argubly KZ requires more processing power, the simple fact that it's on PS4 and Ps4 is more powerful is the truth.

Regardless, Titanfall is a better game than Killzone. It's fun and killzone isn't. Eitehr way Infamous and Dark souls 2 are better than both

Yeah Cad, its a prime example where the better looking game(Killzone) is the game nobody wants to play, while Titanfall is loved by many. Same **** as last gen with Crysis

Yeah this is getting a bit old, the PS4 is stronger on paper, but KZ wasn't full HD 1080p either and suffered from dips in frame rate also... I don't think that should determine whether a game is good or not honestly, it's just eye candy if it's full HD (which I like admittedly)

Instead of going with 720p 60FPS for Multiplayer, Guerrilla tried a cool technique to get 1080p 60FPS. What's the big complaint?

It's just a silly double standard that Sony fans have right now. Titan Fall isn't allowed to render at 792p, but it's perfectly okay for Killzone's multiplayer to run at 960x1080, even though that's less resolution than Titan Fall...

Titanfall doesn't have a story campaign LOL.
That logic would make sense it was rendering two different resolutions, but Killzone's concessions come at trying to make it run as smooth in MP as possible. The campaign is native resolution, and they are using a different method, temporal reprojection which does no render the horizontal frames, but what people are not getting is that Killzone Multiplayer is NOT upscaling the image

Killzone isn't stretching the image, it's compensating unnecessary usage of power by referencing 2 previous frames and the closest one is full 1080p as well. In the end they are creating a brand new image per screen with no stretching
