A while back and thought I would post the article here. It has been updated and revised based upon one title alone. Sorry if it is considered a rant, because in all actuality that's what it is. But I'm curious as to what people think.
I've been wondering this a very long time. Are games getting worse as time progresses? Are developers beginning to sacrifice two of the most important factors in a game, storyline and gameplay mechanics, for graphics? I'm 22 years old and have been gaming since I was 5 years old. When I think about it look at how much fun I used to have with the older games: Paperboy, TMNT, PacMan, Mario, etc. So simplistic yet are still a blast to play to this day. Then came the era of the PS1. I got one for a birthday and fell in love with RPG's with one title alone, FFVII. I got FFVII and put so many hours into it it was ridiculous. Then after that was FF VIII. These two games are my all time favorite games. I can still play them to this day over and over again. Final Fantasy has been on a decline in my eyes since those came out. I own all of them, and have put countless hours into all of them and still consider a lot of them not that great of games. There were many other games I played on my PS1: Twisted Metal, Jet Moto, etc. The fact is back then I didn't have that many games, but I was more than happy and played them all the time. Now are days I'm working and going to college and buy what I want, and I have a huge backlog of games I have yet to even play. I know I would probably enjoy them, but more and more games keep coming out that I want to play.

Square Enix launches Final Fantasy X 25th anniversary site, revealing new Nomura art, books, music releases, and merchandise.
Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.
They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

LucasArts gave Jango Fett his own game in 2002, and it pulled Star Wars into a much dirtier, rougher, and more interesting corner of the galaxy.

The Wii is now a retro console. Let’s get nostalgic about an often maligned system.
Crazy to think the WII is to the Switch 2, as the NES was to the WII back then. 20 Year difference.
My wife asks me to bust it out (heh) everyone once in a while to play bowling and tennis with the kids. There was a ton of slop on it but some good stuff as well.
Wii was great but boy howdy did it cause Microsoft to go on a dark walk with the Kinect and the disastrous XBox One launch that they arguably never recovered from.
Not nostalgic for me.. I was there.. anyone who wasnt a little kid realized it was a gamecube with shit tacked onto it, it was the "joke" system and was well below even the switch in terms of comparing it to the latest machines at the time. The machine was well loved by young people and "casual gamers" who now remember it 20 years on, or in most cases more of its sales came in the 15-20 years ago range not right at launch- but again its not nostalgic for people who were "gamers" then really, just for those who ended up with one in their house, the games , graphics, interface and online features were archaic already in 2006.
The industry is bloated. There will always be the cream of the crop and blockbusters. Then you have movies like Iron Man which actually lives up to the hype. That is rare these days. With so many varibles to take into account, how can we complain. Through websites and word of mouth, the truth will always reveal itself. All that you have to do is some digging. I refuse to waste money on a game that was advertised to be the real deal, but end up being a shiny shell and hollow soul. Give credit where credit is due. Stop all the complaining and hating. Let the duds sit on the shelf and let supply and demand handle the rest. Some great games go unnoticed, but that's what makes them tresure. Fool's gold, or a Franklin sitting on the side of a trashcan. Ying and Yang, live with it.
Bah, his credibility went out of the window because he didn't acknowledge the superiority of Chrono Trigger or FFVI.
But ya, otherwise he makes good points. I still wander too often back to Master of Orion 2, even though there are such gems as Sins of a Solar Empire, galCiv2, Sword of the Stars etc out there. Yet MoO2 remains my favourite. Same goes for consoles: Super Mario World is perhaps one of the best games ever played by me, along with SMB3. And what I said about Chrono Trigger...
