Geforce 175.16 WHQL driver tested

Whereas owners of Geforce 9600 GT and 9800 GX2 could use fresh drivers of the 174 series, Nvidia, until recently, offered the Forceware 169.21 as the only WHQL driver for the Geforce 8 series. Now as the 175.15 has finally arrived in WHQL, PCGH made the test with Crysis, Race Driver GRID, Half-Life (with the infamous Cinematic Mod) and UT3.

I was using 169.21 drivers with my 7950GT's in SLI and games and video were constantly freezing on me. Not locking up my PC or anything, but the video on my monitor would pause for 3 or 4 seconds. I've since rolled back to 93.71 and everything's running smoothly again. I'll most likely upgrade to something in the 9 series this year, but for now these boys suit me just fine.

Simon's Quest is better than Symphony.

If you're gonna troll, at least make a legitimate attempt.

Hot damn that's a good list. The only one i never played is AOE2 and i never finshed Chrono Trigger but it was damn good.

Speaking of what's old but holds up amazingly well and plays like a dream.. i played Symphony of the Night for the first time in 2019.. yep that's right. It became one of my favourite games of all time that i replay almost every year. I couldn't believe how good it was. That is almost impossible for me with newer games let alone older ones. Truly a special gem.

That's a pretty fucking great list

The only one I’d disagree with is doom. It shows its age badly I think. After 5 minutes of play these days you put it down.

One of my biggest art heroes. His work and vision were truly one of a kind, and he’s been a huge inspiration to my own work. Such a heartbreaking loss.

Remember seeing Dishonored for the first time when it released, fell in love with the art style straight away, so striking! And because of it, still holds up and will for years to come, RIP Viktor

JEECE457d ago

Yep I remember seeing some of the earliest concept art for Dishonored and hearing that the art director of Half-Life 2 was working on it and being excited.

And you are absolutely right, each of those games (HL2 and Dishonored) has a distinct art style that stands the test of time.

So sad to hear this. I absolutely love the Dishonored series and love the world and art style. It looks great and unique. I'm still hoping for a Dishonored 3

RIP Viktor love your work

Damn... Dishonored has such amazing art. RIP.

Playing it right now looks amazing! :D
so much fun, i hope they make a vr mod for crysis 2 / 3 too!

DivineHand125479d ago

This is amazing. This is the direction VR should go in to boost adoption. Since I have beaten every Crysis except 1, this is now a good excuse to correct that problem.
