I love the kinect when it functions

The sonic hover board game on 360 was awesome.

I really think Sony hopes ms keeps kinect just like last gen. For those who enjoy its offerings, good times, for those who are doubtful like myself, I'll continue to wait until I see real core gaming experiences playable without a pad. The same thing the fans hope ms keep as standard could be the cause of its downfall because from what I'm seeing from the numbers, kinect isn't swaying enough people to purchase

I just don't understand why people want both consoles to be the exact same. If there was no differentiation, there'd be no competition and no innovation in this industry. Sure Microsoft has taken a different approach, and to date, their approach has resonated with fewer people. But If all consoles matches each other spec for spec, why even bother having multiple consoles?
I bought my xb1 before a ps4 because 1) it had far more launch window games that caught my interest and 2) because kinect was included and well integrated into the UI. If they 'diskinect' I fear developers will treat it like they did the original kinect.

Also, I don't understand why people keep expecting kinect to completely replace the controller. I'm more interested in how it can augment the controller.

PS. I can't wait to play D4, and to see what other small developers come up with down the line. I did see a pretty neat kinect puzzle/platformer some kid made at a game jam.

somehow i do think MS will be able to make the Kinect cheaper to make to bring the overall cast of the system down. Makes sense if they are really intent in keeping it packaged with the system.

I bought my xbone because of the kinects features...without it you end up with a ps4...which I also have and hasn't been powered on since November...infamous needs to get here quick

MS is after the casual crowd. When are you guys going to realize that? They will put out a bunch of exclusives the first couple of years until the price point get down to where the casual crowd starts buying. Kinect is not going anywhere.

Looking at the many things that can be done with Kinect in Project Spark shows exactly why MS should not drop the Kinect.

So far I have seen online some cool things being done just by using Kinect and anyone who has a Xbox One should be able to use out the box.

How is the Kinect a differentiator if the PS4 camera does most of the same things? Hint: It isn't.

I hear alot of Xbox One users claim the Kinect makes the Xbox One different. That without it is just a PS4.

Then I read comments by people who have BOTH cameras, who say, they do mostly the same thing. I even just read something here on N4G where they showcased that both are equally worthless to them, and that using a controller is faster and better.

So which is it? Is it a differentiator or do Xbox fans just WISH it makes the Xbox different? It's quite clear Xbox fans simply WISH it makes the Xbox One different. Not my fault if Microsoft made a product you can't differentiate from the PS4, except it has less power and costs more.

Well you know what they say about wishing. Wish in one hand, crap in the other, and see which one fills up first.

The Kinect doesn't make the Xbox one different, it just makes it cost more. A cost that simply cannot be justified. $499 for a device weaker and gimped (ESRAM) from it's $399 competitor.

Again you can buy a graphics card that is roughly the same power as the Xbox One for a little over $100. Now I understand you are getting a whole package with a console. But when you get that whole package for $100 less and is more powerful corresponding closer to a $160-180 graphics card. You see a much better value proposition. $399 for $160-180 power parts against $499 for $115-125 power parts. If gaming is the point of a console, and it IS, then shouldn't more of the cost you pay for that product be devoted to GAMING?

Are people so blind they think if they buy an XB1 and a camera separately they somehow in the end have a different machine then having it bundled? Because that's the case they are making. That somehow the XB1 won't be different, if it isn't BUNDLED. WTF SMH at morons.

Do they believe the lie that no one will support it if it isn't mandatory? Because last I checked I saw most if not all the same features implemented in 3rd party games and Sony didn't mandate the camera.

If something isn't worth supporting, there is no way you can alter this. If devs ever decide to cut back on various motion controls, it's because too few people justify the expense.

The real fear is that YOU like the camera and want the features, and you have no problem forcing everyone else that wants to buy a new console to pay the price so that YOU can enjoy those features, because you are afraid since MICROSOFT SCARED YOU that they won't be supported.

You don't care if 90 percent won't motion game, you want those 90 percent to obfuscate a fake demand for the product so those remaining 10 or so percent can get their motion games. It's dishonest, and quite frankly makes those people as guilty as Microsoft for including it.

What's funny is that only Sony has announced you will eventually be able to utilize voice commands without a camera add on. Wow another Microsoft lie debunked. Why are people supporting and defending these liars?

So Microsoft holds hostage half of it's usage behind the Kinect wall, and Sony gives people a choice to either buy and use a PS4 camera, or use a simple microphone.

Look around Xbox One fans, you are being lied to about your Kinect. It isn't different. It doesn't need to be mandated. You don't need to lie to developers in order to get them to utilize it in some way. You definitely don't have to force it on people if they want your system, because Microsoft is finding out that people will then simply not want your system and buy your competitors instead. A lesson that was easily known before launch, and yet still so many to teach the obvious to.

That somehow if everyone has one, suddenly more uses will crop up that somehow justify it. Sorry guys. Truly I am. I really wanted Kinect 1 to work with the 360, but it didn't, and the Kinect 2 and the whole idea of motion gaming is FLAWED.

You will never have a kinect fighting game that competes with Street fighter or any of the other fighters. Sorry, those games have quick button presses, and even Bruce Lee sped up on film couldn't move fast enough with their arms and legs to duplicate what can be done with button presses on a controller.

Simply put controllers abstract the motions to a button and allow the brain to combo faster then their appendages can ever do in real life.

The time it takes to move around slows down the game, it's like built in lag, even if the sensor added absolutely none. Which we know many times isn't the case as even if it is better then the Kinect 1, when developers utilize the sensor they are still getting lag.

Most people don't find it fun, and most people get tired after 5 minutes of using it. Well when I game, I game for alot longer then 5 minutes, and if my gaming experience needed to be limited to using the Kinect, I wouldn't be gaming. It's that bad, and most people KNOW THAT!

But let's get back to the voice controls, and how a microphone IS NOT Kinect. The Kinect has ONE, but that's it.

Even the Xbox 360 had a game which used microphone input to control a game, Tom Clancy's Endwar, and didn't need a Kinect to achieve it. In fact it launched before the Kinect was even out. Endwar launched in November 2008.

In the 1980's a game called Echelon had a very rudimentary implementation of voice control.

So why do Xbox fans feel the need to try to falsely claim that the Kinect camera makes their product different then the PS4? It doesn't. Close to half of the things they use it for doesn't even need a camera, just a simple microphone.

So the PS4 has a camera, like the Xbox One, but only ONE forces you to pay for it if you want to purchase an Xbox One. PS4 not only gives you the choice, eventually you can utilize half of the benefit of a Kinect/PS4 camera without buying ANY camera.

...oh and since people want to argue semantics about nobody forcing you to buy a system. That is quite right. The people HAVE spoken with their wallets. Which is when people gauge everything the XB1 offers, at the price, with it's lack of power level, made by the Microsoft corporation and all it pushes and stands for, they have quite clearly chosen the alternative.

So you can't sit there and say, no one is forcing you, let the people decide, and ignore the result. They have. The question is, how does Microsoft respond? Because it's quite clear that the Xbox One bundled with Kinect at $499 is not a profitable position for Microsoft.

We already know what many fanboys want. They want Microsoft, even if it costs them money, and a console generation, even the entire future of the Xbox vision, to continue forcing it in.

Get ready for another Xbox disappointment, because that sucker will be removed from the box or investors will be mad at eating a huge loss per unit from dropping the price and keeping it in. Either way someone is going to be massively disappointed. Investors would crap a brick if they had to eat $100 or so a console just to keep in a gimmick product that most don't want, and many are rightfully wary of.

It doesn't differentiate them from the PS4. It only adds cost. It only engenders all the bad feelings of that fascist vision Microsoft showcased for the world to see at the reveal.

Microsoft is viewed as the enemy, as someone you can't trust...not by fanboys preferring another brand, but by gamers as a result of MICROSOFT'S DECISIONS. Fanboys didn't create the distrust, MICROSOFT DID and is SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS!!!

So if someone is interested in a Kinect like camera, but wants a more powerful and cheaper alternative, why not buy a PS4?

If you want to know what the differentiators of the XB1 are...here they are.

1. Snap (easily done with a regular remote without snap)
2. Cable in (so you can control your tv, even though it's far faster, precise, and better with a remote)
3. Fantasy Football and other NFL perks (again something done equal or much much better on your PC/Phone/TV)

Those are your differentiators. Don't blame me, Microsoft came up with them and paid handsomely to get it, like then NFL deal.

I've been running fantasy football leagues since 1999, and guess what, I would never use an Xbox One for fantasy football, nor do I want to use their one chosen provider.

Because other then those three things all you did was pay more for a weaker machine that does the same things as the PS4.

4. Exclusive games (which Sony has showcased that their first party dev pipeline is 3-4-5x bigger and already at work on exclusive titles...Microsoft? Little news, except a HOPE that at E3 they will have revealed they created/acquired a few devs who are working on some titles...we'll see)

This was all easily known before launch. If you didn't. You either didn't seek the information out, or were blinded for some reason when it was mentioned. But you all had access to the information AND after seeing how much of a flop the first Kinect was, the device itself was anything but an unknown. We all know what it's about. Some just didn't want to believe, and somehow still trusted Microsoft and believed it's claims. Just it's fans refuse to see that most of us want nothing to do with it. Quit blaming non-Xbox pushovers for Xbox's problems. We didn't create the situation and all the faults inherent in it. MICROSOFT DID. IF you want to be mad at someone, look directly at Microsoft, the one these people somehow still support.

But Kinect = PS4 camera in many, many ways. Can it do a few extra things that will almost never be utilized? Yep. But if you don't use the 'it can detect your heartbeat in the dark' feature, then what does it matter?

Since voice usage is not Kinect dependent, why is this even brought up? Oh I see, because Microsoft has convinced people, bizarrely somehow, that you can only have microphone input with the Kinect. Which of course, was just another implied lie from Microsoft.

...and I didn't even bring up the NSA. At least Sony gives you the choice.

You know you can like xbox but not like kinnect. What made 360 a must have for people.ask yourself was it kinnect? The moat used feature is voice controls which can be done on ps4 with camera or headset only microphone is needed. Where still after all this time is the killer games for kinnect because remember some of you dont have ps4 because of lack of their type of game. Why are so patient with the kinnect as it been used with 360 too but ps4 only been what not even 4 months and it has to hurry up when it the company that track record for delivering must have exclusive games. I would be demanding to get rid of kinnect too if they are not going to deliver on games for it. Actually if no hint of drm returning and drop kinnect or make that cheap that you not paying for kinect then I would buy xbox one. I would like to play both systems but really dislike microsoft but doesnt mean I cant see the appeal of xbox and some exclusives they had but no way am I giving microsoft more money than sony for something I dont want(kinnect)so why reward them for their mistake remember sony made few mistakes with ps3 and were critized for it but learned from it. Microsoft is still trying to push kinnect without games imagine if sony tried to push move with ps4 shows they do not listen that is why they are losing in sales. So you can still love your xbox one but critize the kinnect as it makes it a lot dearer for features that a microphone can do.If you like snap and tv features then ask if it worth the extra.It the end this is hurting xbox they need to make kinect worth it
